  • kool and the gang was among one of the first albums i ever owned. sadly-because of the way that radio was organized at the time hey didn't make any real money until they came out with "ladies night, too hot and celebrate"...don't let that happen to your muzic...support what you like with the money to back it up...i only like early kool and the gang..love the jazz balance that they used to maintain...but after "wild and peaceful" they said i need a dollar..lol..

  • FunkY!!

  • Man, thank God for YouTube, the music as well as the commentary. I'm feeling a like a lot of folks here, I always dug the early Kool jams like "Rhyme Time People" and "Who's Gonna Take the Weight" which seemed tight, bright, and exceptionally funky. Also like a lot of others here, I thought Kool & the Gang literally lost its groove when it pulled the plug on funk and morphed into more of a smooth jazz, top-40 format featuring comparatively weak cuts like "Joanna" and "Celebrate."

  • One of the earliest to come off this goddamn hard.......this and Funky Stuff changed the entire mutha' fuckin' game

  • before the shameless commercialism....

  • Its 1974 all over again in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn & WBLS 107.5 FM and its sister station WWRL 1600 am IS playing the REAL music- funk, soul, & gospel with the REAL deejays- Hank Spann, Frankie Crocker, Gary Bird, Jeff Troy, Jerry Bledsoe, Hal Jackson, Larmar Renee, Vy Higerson, Ken Spiderweb,G Keith Alexander indeed a golden era that will NEVER come again !!!

  • gansters of the groove!!!!!

  • I love it funkeeyyy

  • South Side Peoria Illinois "That's Right" Changes you go through!!!!(A.A.

  • Yeah!! LET'S SPANK!

  • heard this when I was 7 and it blew me away. I begged my mother to buy this album but she was into Al Green. she could have at least bought me the 45 single!

  • we used to play this to get away from their biggest hits, I guess the true definition of a cult classic.

  • That's some great music...never understood why Kool and the Gang went A/C, RB, Pop...it was good too; maybe it was record co...but when they were playing jazz..rb/funk they were great! Luv this! Great bands back then...Ohio Players, Pleasure, Tower of Power, Brass Construction, AWB, War, Mandrill, Crown Heights Affair, Cymande, Chicago, Larry Graham, .so many more...!

  • I remember my dad having this song (of many )blasting from his 8 track system in the Wildcat Buick ,while he was cleaning his "whitewalls" on a Saturday before Soul Trainn...WOW ...what memories!!!

  • This track reminds me a lot of Tear the Roof off the Sucker, on P-Funk's Mothership Connection. The early Kool stuff was really good, its 100 times better than the later, more commercial stuff like Joanna and Celebration.

  • This is CLASSIC!!!!!!!! Brings back awesome memories!

    Thanks for posting!

  • from my favorite Kool & the Gang album. I so love this song. Thank you for posting it here.

  • this is the best it all went tits up after this

  • True, True...

  • XIO3MARA....Know exactly where you're coming from.. When Hollywood Swinging came out, it was my favorite song by the group. But when this came out after, then IT became my favorite. AND TO THIS DAY IT STILL IS.

  • @Rousse61 Nah, 1974 was graduation from High School !!

  • Aahhh, back in jr. high school again (middle school for you youngsters).

AAaahhhh!! Wonderful memories. Excellent job LamontCJ

  • Oh yeah! Damn, this takes me back... gotta find my Eleganza catalog! (and if anyone remembers 'Eleganza' clothing, you're old like me! LOL!)

  • Oh hell yeah.. Only place you could Eleganza gear was in Ebony and maybe Jet. Hell you could get a shirt will lapels so long they could almost touch your belt!!@

My band ECSTASY (Newburgh, NY) used to play this song back in 1974 I think... along with Jimmy Castor Bunch, New Birth, EWF, AWB, KATG... damn right!

  • @avp0713 You must be "old school" like me to remember all of

these groups, especially the Jimmy Castor Bunch.!!! "Party over here"

  • @sactiger Wow...I remember those catalogs, along with the Flagg Brothers catalogs.....bring back the 70's....PLEASE!!!!!

  • @FunkInDaPocket47 "Flagg Bros"?! Oh hellz yeah!! U r right, bring back the 70's! This young crew comin' up don't even know about it... we raised that flag! SALUTE!! :)

  • @sactiger Wow, you crack me up! Flagg Bros. ! I remember I wanted to wear everything in the catalog and I was this kid in 6th grade. In seems that either we were cooler kids back then with adult style or music brought all ages together. Either way, that was the best time for music. Thanks for sharing your memory of a world that had great style all around, Peace!

  • This was a nice followup to Hollywood Swinging;anybody wanna bump?

  • LOL...I remember that song "Keep on Bumping"

:looked this one up and bookmarked it...ah, to be 13 again...

  • now this is the real sHIT

  • Comment removed

  • 15 with this came out lucky to be a part of this era

  • Ah, 1974...I just turned 13, bought this album with my allowance...LOL...am I old or what???

  • Takes me back to those NOI Steak & Take restaurants serving whiting and veggie sandwiches on fresh-baked brown bread, bean pies...K&G blaring on the turntable inside

  • i remember being a kid and having my dad have all his buddies come over after work. All races just kicking it together, with me whooping everyone butt in checkers and sometimes chess. lol

  • Great time I am sure! For me, this whole album was special. 1974 was a great yeat for funk and r&b.

  • Third grade, my cousin playing pro football, recessed green lights in the basement at home, weekends at my grandmother's house, this song brings it all back. 1974

  • Great times, no doubt! For me, K&G takes me to when many of the people who was in my world were around and it just brings a smile on my face and a longing in my heart because they're not with me anymore. Family, friends, ways of being, styles, you know, the whole set.

  • peace brother . .

  • wooohoo!!

  • WhaCha' doin' wit' that stuff!!

  • when you see a video you like - save it to your hard disk, since youtube changed ownership they take a lot of clips down.

i have all the soul train kool and the gang videos but if i put them up they will probably get taken down.

  • Is that so. Thanks for the heads up!

  • what happened to the soul train video that was posted

  • What soul train video?

  • about a month ago a few people posted Kool & the Gang performing Rhyme Tyme People, Higher Plane, and Summer Madness on Soul Train. I guess Youtube removed it.
