Chapman said, he identified with Holden so he killed Lennon. The thing was that Chapman didn't understand the book. He saw Lennon as a "phony" and thought Holden wanted to KILL all the phony people ( "people shooting hat") we know, that this is not true, Holden just didn't want to become "phony" himself and protect kids and liked them far better than grown-ups...it's sad that such an amazing book has a little part in such a bad story as Lennons or Kennedys...

not defending the book or anything but i do think it's a crappy book but it was apparently at the time touch on subjects that were not apporiate at the time thus the reason it was banned from schools for so long. Yea nowadays we do find many people just like holden but back then it was like the unspeackable to even mention stuff like that or they turned away.

Catcher in the rye is my favorite book. I've read it twice. I have bashed most of the catcher and the rye films that were made for English class and the others i didn't comment on because I was getting bored. But, I have to say, this portrays Holden and the book very well. Even the words you chose to high light. It was very well portrayed. Even the tone of your voice, so nonchalant. It's exactly how Holden is. Great job.
