  • This song reminds me of the early to mid 90s in Germany blasting down a country road sat in the back of my dads Alfa Romeo 155, he used to have this on cassette he made with loads of other brilliant 80s tracks, he reminded me of it the other day, it has been on repeat ever since, makes me miss that cassette, and this video hasn't been digitally remastered so it has the vinyl crackle and the way the intro fades in, love it love it love it, why can't music be this good today

  • Loved this song ever since it was released in 1984 when I was 12. Been inspiring me ever since, and I've just seen this video for the first time ever - befits the song.

  • never get tired of listen to amazing tracks from the 80's great times, story of the blues my fave tune from 80,s , this comes a close second.

  • pete could have been so much greater.

  • Pete was a pigeon racing enthusiast and this song was a plea to "Speckled Ged", one of his pigeons that never returned.

  • @gigsing hahahaaaa. but seriously it was about all the young talent leaving liverpool, cause maggie was crushing the place for trying to make a stand against the vile tories.that's why it says 'hats of to Hatton' at the very end.(derek hatton that would be)

  • @feow33 Speckled Ged probably got blasted out of the sky by some Tory landowner.

    Liverpool's struggles always produce dynamic songs/art !

  • Was she wearing a hat or was she involved in an accident with a candy floss machine at a nearby funfair?

  • What a song - brings back so many happy memories. Pete Wylie was so talented.

  • ANY OLD heads remember this round liverpool, irish centre gig, red n blue n all that, pete wylie is a feckin top one ta,la.

  • Obviously they're not singing live when they're filming location footage, so do they just walk down the street mouthing silently?

  • Never have guessed the titlw of thw song, would you?

  • Who's the bird with the fucked up albino affro? She is just creeping around like some sort of Linda McCartney. Either shake a tamborine or some maraccas or **** off love.

  • didnt know dave vanian and elvis had a boy.....

  • class pure class!

  • Fuckin' ell, Wylie's like some bizzare cross between a two bob Springsteen and Dave Vanian from the Damned. He may be a plank but he was a mover in the 'pool post punk scene.

  • One of the best songs of the decade.A musical crime that it made number 29 or something. If this was re released it would be a huge hit im sure.

  • What a tune. Should have been a bigger hit. It got quite a lot of airplay in Holland, especially in a famous radioshow called De Avondspits, but it was never a hit here. Shame.

  • probally the best song ever recorded................along with Trevor Horn.

  • Is that Mount Pleasant at 37 - 40 s (approx)?

  • Doubt there are too many videos that feature Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral! Takes me back, and in the end, even if the music ain't so great, the memories it evokes are something special x

  • Excellent! Great track by Pete. Pity you never hear these songs anymore other than here on Youtube. Thanks for Youtube.

  • this was a classic, reminds me of the youth club, girls inside, lads out side glue sniffin.. oh quality times..lol lol

  • Hiya Bedroom Bowie!

  • believe a period programme called the mallens was on at this time and the hero had a white streak thru his hair like this

  • Never mind the music. Their choice of hair style is a topic all of its own.

  • had a pigeon or gull shat in his hair or somethin? hahahahaha love it, great song, great musician, great songwriter, great everythin. well apart from his seagull shit hair. and his dancing is pretty shitty 2 lol

  • That bint looks likes she's gonna croak of a heroin overdose before the song ends.

  • Thanks for a great song always loved it Classic

  • who's the blonde with pete?

  • probably the fabulous Josie Jones

  • 0:31 and 0:46

  • So good and evocative of my youth I could almost cry! hy do they peddle such 80's retro pop stuff when there was such good music about.

  • Just brilliant, captures the spirit of great eighties pop against the backdrop of hard times for Liverpool and large parts of the country. Liverpool is unfairly maligned as a city but has produced some fantastic music over the years. Add defiance and pride together and you end up with music like this, unafraid to be political and full of the joy of pop delivered with conviction. Story of the Blues was Wah's masterpiece, but this runs it close.

  • totally agree. I have heard it said that us Aussies would find in Liverpool the type of larrikin humour that we pride ourselves in. Aahh, great memories...

  • I think if Sylvester Stallone and Billy Joel had a child, he would look like this guy.

  • dock workers...no its about people leaving the city in the eighties.....and the dance is great ,just imagine you're carrying two pints

  • I still remember this song, and I think I also have the tape:-) Good times!

  • Pete Wylie, the 3rd part of the holy Liverpool trinity of the early 80s, along with Julian Cope and Ian McCullough. Will we see the likes of them again?

  • Pete Wylie also produced The Farm ( All together now, groovy train etc...)

  • I thought this song was about the dock workers? would have thought they'd do something with that for the video

  • This is the Elvis of Aigburth Road, liverpool. All Hail Pete Wylie.

  • Dont laugh at the "dad dancing" - its how we all danced then - in fact I still do hahaha!!

  • I `ve never heard of them but they are or were cool ,wish I`d know them back then

  • the mighty wah

  • They started off as a band called Wah! and where later known as Wah! Heat, Shambeko! Say Wah!, JF Wah!, The Mighty Wah! and Wah! the Mongrel and then pete wylie went solo

  • Looks like Elvis.

  • A fantastic 80's tune from a scouse legend ! Shame about the 'dad dance' and looks like he was painting his ceiling before the vid ?? YNWA.

  • Thanks for posting this! Were The Mighty Wah a band, or were they a Pete Wylie studio project?I bought this way back in 84 but never saw the video till now. Cheers!

  • You never hear this song on the radio and yet for me it was one of the greats of the 80s

  • one of the great songs of the 80,s. never got the acclaim it deserved.

  • never come back .if u ever get the chance to go away have no regrets,

  • Do you really think anywhere else is any better?

  • why come back to liverpool .or fucking england .

  • we're not dead..yet...get a grip

  • fuck the fucking lot we have got no chance black black and the future is looking fucking bleake not 4 liverpool but 4 the fucking whole country.

  • i agree, the fuck up of the thatcher years is gonna look like a fucking picnic to whats coming to us all soon

  • fuck peaple did not wont to move from liverpool but they had to 4 work thatchers years. no we all wont to get out of this stinking country cos its now desiesed tony blairs legend .

  • I absolutely love this video.Pete Wylie is one of the most underrated artists ever.Brings back great memories........ thanks!!

  • Love this track! Always enjoyed mishearing the opening lyric - "down by the dogs they're talking turd" - thanks for posting!

  • Ha ha ha. ;)

  • @rinkumdinkum omg im sure thats exactly what he said

  • @rinkumdinkum ...cannot unhear. AHHH.

  • Although the quality of some of these videos is acceptable, the same cannot be said about the audio. It's about time these clips saw the light of day again on DVD.

I always wanted to know if Wah! did a video for Story of the Blues. That was their biggest hit ever. And I know that Miss Josie Jones is featured on a lot of Pete's solo records as well.

  • there is a video of story of the blues, remember seeing it on vh1 awhile back.wish someone would upload it though.

  • Even better is "Weekends"

    I love the lines:

"Swan on a beach in Sri Lanka

    Just like Duran Duran"

I've tried to resolve the lyrics for "Weekends" at allandevery(.)wordpress(.)com/2008/12/25/the-mighty-wah/

    Any corrections would be appreciated.

  • another classic from the mighty wah ,like story of the blues.

  • what a great voice

  • I still have this song on 7" single format. It`s great, never saw the video of this, remember the TOTP performance. Anyone know the girls name ? Also has anyone noticed Pete dances the funky chicken really well ! A brilliant song, I`m so glad I was around for the 80`s !

  • Girl's name is Josie Jones

  • The blond girl is Josie Jones, well known on the Liverpool music scene in the 1980's, Wylie even wrote an album track about her.

  • Has anyone the mp3 from this amazing song for me ??? Please

  • AMAZING TUNE!!!!

  • Is this song really that old?

  • fukin brill ,....more of pete should b heard WORLDWIDE kin genuis in my eyes

  • Haha I loved this one back in the 80's but what a loopy video. Peter Wylie rules.

Thanks for posting this great tune.
