@petefader I disagree, Dave has said in many interviews that P Jam wasn't really his thing. I think Dave is passionate about music in general, not just as a drummer/guitarist/piano player/engineer

@DrCWinkie well, wasnt his thing before he joined the band, after that, he put a lot of passion and feel, crativity grooving and stuff. it doesnt seem the work for someone whos "not doing his thing"

The Thing is, dave was not a rock drummer vefore joining PJ. was in a jazz band, than funk band.

And people say Matt Pussymeron is the best one... hes a good ROCK drummer, with no groove, no creativity, loooves to do overplayed fills in horrible places... its a pitty. he should have stayed with SG

Yep, I totally agree. Too bad they decided to fire Dave. Such a great drummer! Definitely the best on PJ ever had. Matt C. is great too but he just don't suit PJ's music.

Dave plays in a orchestra with different styles, he is capable of that and more. and not to mention that dave a composed songs aswells as for example ahit like "go"

last i checked, pearl jam is a rock and roll band.. not an orchestra. PJ is, and has been, better off without dave and his little 4 inch splash cymbals.

Dave is also my favorite, but I'd like to give Matt some props for rocking the effing house in Boston on 6/30. PJ in 2008 is still killing it, among the very best if not the best live band around, and of all time.

@gndcd402-Most "grunge" bands were. Nirvana was amazing later on, but not at all at first. Mudhoney were said to give a good show. still, pj-#1 live and a couple of other things

Big, big difference in the pearl jam sound between Dave A and Matt. Clearly Matt is nowhere near Dave A. Listen to the song Whipping during the Dave era and now. Quality, speed, and talent. Dave has that over Matt. I just never thought that Matt fit into Pearl Jam. And never do. I've seen them in 94,00, and 03. 94 was the best concert of them all.

i disagree, i think matts brought something different, i think hes the best drummer theyve had, for example i dont think that if dave was still drumming for pearl jam, we wouldnt have great songs like sleight of hand or you are, i dont think dave could play thos seongs, he never did anything particularly awkward for pearl jam, it was all 4/4

i respect your opinion, and the work of the other drummers of PJ, too. i love the new PJ, it is genial!the band had different times/base of music/drummers.they always get from the drummer what they wanted to get, what realy fit.and finaly good new albums, but technicaly dave was in an other caste!

w.m.a., trust me Dave a. could have played those songs. the reality is, is that he didn't so there's nothing to compare it to. also you have to keep in mind the production of pearl jam was vastly different from vs. vitalogy. but after all that said i think that Matt fits the band because well.....he's in the band. i also liked Jackie Irons a whole mess load. pearl jam still sounds good. thats what's important! in my opinion....of course.

go look at some of the recent versions of this song with matt drumming. It doesnt quite work. Matt is not funky enough for the old pearl jam songs.

I must say I disagree. Dave Abbruzzese is truly a great drummer, no doubt about that. But Matt is magnificent. I've never heard enybody play like him. If you don't think he is funky enough I think you're barking up the wrong tree.

dave abruzzese was really funky and thats what was part of that brilliant sound. just watch the evenflow mtv unplugged thing, that groove is brilliant.

i like Matt, he's tight, just not groovy enough for some of the songs. atleast for my taste
