the actual toy makes very loud mechanical sounds when it moves and talks - you can hear the mechanisms moving inside. It's also sometimes very diffcult to understand what's saying.

This demo of the toy is a total misrepresentation of the actual toy.

I got the last elmo live for my little girl for christmas and every store i went to was sold out and they werent get anymore in stock b4 christmas so when i heard that wal-mart had one left i got it put on hold and i was out there in less than 30 mins to pick it up..fastest car ride ive ever taken in my life.lol..but its worth the money..it makes a great gift..

No. It is battery operated and self-contained. I'm guessing the wires were to allow the toy to be amplified for a crowd, and not require battery changes.

The cord is part of the prototype. This is common when toys are demonstrated at Toy Fair. By the time the product is fully out of development and off to manufacturing, there will be no cord.
