If you say hello to it in 12 different languages over and over again or treat train it to say it, it's going to say it all eventually. Check out the parrot Einstein on Pet Star. The head bobbing? Often it's left over from when they are babies. When babies are hungry they bob their heads. I think this happens more when a bird is weaned too soon (before 1 year in large birds). Although some just do it all the time anyway.

Among African Greys, every flock has its own dialect, and there is evidence that they even identify each other by unique names.

They definitely have a sense of self. Bibi also knows the names of her entire flock, including 3 dogs and 2 cats. She tells us what she wants to eat, and can even identify what we are eating from across the room. She understands the concepts of color and shape. When she wants to go to sleep, she tells us...in 3 languages. First thing in the morning, she says good morning, and she is potty trained...sort of.
Amazing creature's arn't they, my neighbor has an african grey & they used to have a rottweiler the parrot would give the dog commands and the dog followed it's commands all the time it was surreal plus when he wanted his cage covered he say's "night night" though they talk to him like a baby wich I don't agree with, in my personal experience animal's seem to respond better to you if you talk to them like a normal person it's as if you know there being patronized.
P.s Here's an idea if you haven't tryed it yet, see if he can tell the differance between 1 apple & 2 or 3 or an apple & a seed to see how well his grasp of number's is I don't atall think this is beyond his ability.

Not all Africans Greys are exploted, mine one was hand breed in this Country and they are costly to buy and l don't regret one bit...Your bird looks like it is given all the love and attention....I am saddened that a lot are exploted.....BUT believe you me l will neve exchange my African Grey for anything...They grow with love and we have to treat them as our family (like their own flock)..

Perhaps the bird would rather see YOU wandering around naked and barefoot in the jungle foraging for berries. But I doubt that is the way that you live thesedays. Is it natural for you to be typing on a computer keyboard, wearing clothes, and eating food processed by strangers?

If you take the time to look at all her videos the bird looks to be very happy and enjoying her life. Animal cruelty is a real issue and you hurt the cause for this important issue by picking an obviously well adapted bird as an example.
From a reputable breeder. Wild-caught birds don't make good pets. Anyone interested in buying a parrot should get either a hand-fed baby or a rescued adult.

Bravo onekinkstar! I couldn't agree more. There is so much good to be done with organizations that have known offenders. Most pet owners that take the time to train and video tape their pets are loving, nuturing caretakers. If anyone told me to set my dogs and cat "free" I'd have to tell them they are nuts! -- I just got through rescuing them from the "wild"!!!!!
Bibi is not a wild caught bird. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) bans the import of wild African Greys to the US. 93 percent of the trade in CITES-listed birds is in Europe.
It would be totally cruel to do as you suggest. The bird would be dead. They have a video of her up here with her being hand fed when she was weeks old and has clearly lived in captivity her entire life. So she has no survival skills that would allow her to live in the wild.

I´m sorry. I would just rather see "Bibi" flying around on a tropical forest. If it looks happy is because who is looking lacks in perception.
I wich people ended the animal traffic by just not buying wild animals.

Animal cruelty is a real issue and you hurt the cause for this important issue by picking an obviously well adapted bird as an example.

If it is for true; that is less bad.
But I don´t agree, with cutting a bird´s wing and forcing it to live indoors, just for the entertainment of people.

Bibi is still amazing - so clear and distinct with those words! I especially like her "body language" and those jungle popping sounds.
Does Bibi get daily, or regular mistings, to keep her clean? What's she like when she's getting her shower? Or does she prefer a bath . . .

She gets regular showers and she has a little bird bath on the side of her cage. She likes the showers, but she really enjoys playing in her bath.
