  • I thought of something funny when our American family is here, their parents are also from Holland. We try to let them say, (which is difficult for them because of the ' sch') ' Het Scheve Schuitje van Scheveningen' We always have a great laugh with eachother to speak words in our languages that are difficult to pronounce for people who are noth Dutch of American. Maybe you can say it and post it in you next video. Looking forward to it:-)

  • Don't blame your mum; my dutch mum has always spoken quite a lot of dutch to me, and although I spoke a lot of it when I was little, going to school and speaking English all the time made me forget most of it. Now, I can understand it pretty well, but my speaking isn't great.

  • Hallo jongens :-)

I love your video!! I'm also a dork for accents and the accents I adore here from the Netherlands is the accent from Den-Haag and Amsterdam. I don't know if you can here the difference between the two, but it's really fun!

Keep up the good work! And alway be welcome in Holland!

  • I am Dutch but I always pronounced the R in the back of my mouth. I never was able to roll my R. Watching your video, I finally figured out how to do it. I had no idea I had to move my tongue up. Thanks!

  • I'm Dutch and my name is Robin de Graaf (my last name gets messed up by people who only speak english :P)

  • Comment removed

  • did this chick get faster??

  • Woo native bilingual people (I'm dutch/english bilingual myself xD)

  • Btw, when I say the 'r', my tongue touches the bottom of my mouth, not the roof of my mouth xD

HAHa it's grappig when you say "grappig", okay, bad word jokes ;P

  • YAY for being Dutch! :)

Dutch doesn't réally have typical pronounciations..

I'm from the south of Holland so my 'g' isn't so harsh :)

  • Comment removed

  • The SCH is realy hard, only dutch born can realy say it, white out thinking... and fast ;)

  • Thank god some one can hear the differens between germans ect....realy nice video...

  • right after riding bicycles ;)

  • It's already been said before in the comments, but in Holland there are a lot different dialects and thus a lot different ways to pronounce the r and the g. Most dutch people do use the g that you use in this video, but not very many Dutch people roll the r as much as you do. Especially when the r is in the middle or at the end of a word, few people pronounce the r at all. For example a lot of dutch people pronounce the word "later" (which means the same as the english word "later") like "latu"

  • @0pudding0 but still what you're saying is pretty right.

  • I'm trying to seak English without my Dutch accent and what i find most significant in the Dutch accent is the "s", whenever a foreigner speaks English and they pronounce the "s" I recognize a Dutch one

  • I am so glad that someone else thinks being bilingual is awesome :D I have a Dutch pen pal and his ability to write English always shocks me! It's so amazing!! Thanks so much for this video :D :D

  • What other languages besides dutch and english do the dutch like to speak or learn?

  • @DoubleOZ3r0 mostly french and german ;).

  • Oh, and: "The Dutch accent", what do you mean by that? Dutch is not an accent, it is a definition for a group of languages that derived from what could be translated to English as 'old nether frankonian' and was spoken in the west northern part of Europe (Netherlands, Belgium and a part of West-Germany) as early as 500 CE and even before that, although we don't have good evidence from before that period. So you should say 'Nederlandstalig' :)

  • Dutch people speak many languages? :S :S :S Every single Dutch person speaks English? No way! At least half of the people I know speak English very bad or not at all!! And they are all Dutch! If you really want to go to a country where everybody speaks English, go to Norway! Perfect English and everybody speaks it!

  • hey i am from the netherlands and in the netherlands not everybody talks with he rolling r or the g in the south, limburg and brabant, we have a r that is close to the american r we don't touch the front of our mouth like the rolling r it stays in the back:P and sounds softer and the g is a lot different from the g around Amsterdam our g is a lot softer. i like the video!

  • i think in nearly every european country you have to take english in school, so the netherlands are nothing special

at least in austria english is one of our 4 main subjects (german, english, maths and latin/french/italian) :D

  • in dutch we have diffrent accents and with each accent comes a diffrent way to say the r and g

like in the south where i am from we never use the gargling sound for g

from which part of holland comes your mom

    greetz from holland

or as we say it in the south

    houdoe heuj

  • And you're totally right about the -th sound. I hate it when Dutch people can't pronounce it, it sounds so ugly!

  • I'm 100% Dutch and it is even for me hard to pronounce -s, -g and -r after eachother, so usually I don't pronounce the -r in a word like schreeuw or 's-Gravenpolder.

  • @Bebe9ish What also happens alot with these words is that the "g" sounds gets left out, so instead of schreeuw you say sreeuw. Since there are really no actual words which start with "sr", this is not really a problem, since you can't confuse them with other words.

  • @Bebe9ish Dat heet een splaakgeblek :P

  • hi there, i'm from the netherlands and i have a teacher on my school who's an american and his ducth sound is very funny to hear.

  • Im from Brabant. Eindhoven And i love my accent. Here is the R and G very soft. :)

  • @imprezanic0le Yay, me too :) Our accent is awesome.

  • I'm dutch and I think you must go to the netherlands and learn the language.

  • You speak way too much. 0.o

  • You're right, because even if Americans speak Dutch, I can hardly understand it. But it's really fun to listen to! ;)

  • Is it just my computer... or is the video getting flushed forward? Its going really fast! Btw Im Dutch hahaha

  • Fries is even worse, but friesen are proud of their accent, because it is a official language.

i think it is bullshit, but it is a language on itsself it''s weird

  • @mathijssmith

Frisian is such a filthy cocksucking farmboy hick accent, it ought to be banned immediately!

    To safeguard humanity!

  • @ParaParagon

Frisian isn''t an accent, it's a language, you as Dutchman should know that...

  • @jawaclv

I had Frisian in class actually, I had to learn to that ugly accent for one year (it was mandatory). Frisians love to say it is a language just because they thought up some retarded spelling for it. Have you ever seen how ugly their spelling is? It gives me a shivers just thinking about it. I am certainly glad I have fled the farm!

  • the rolling r is more a accent of Rotterdam in the south.

I myself am from Roden near Groningen in the North.

I like to think that i don't have a dutch accent ( but i have:(.

it is funny because in dutch there are also a lot of different accents, i don't really have a northern accent, but i can switch to it and speak so.

    plat proatn zeg moar.

my dad has the Groninger accent more but he can also switch.

it's funny when foreigners just had a dutch language course they still can't understand

  • I am dutch, but i don't like the dutch accent.

I like the British accent more or the American .

Btw you speak dutch pretty well, you're pronouncation is pretty good

  • On FB I have a group called aliens in Holland. Do u accept that I post this video there? feel free to join the group too :D

  • Woops, I'm talking way too much. Sorry! I just wanted to add that I love your video. You look really good by the way, sort of open/honest, if you can understand what I'm trying to say. I just wanted to let you know. Thanks for posting your video, it's so interesting to hear those kind of things! :D

  • Hey, I'm dutch. I really think you are right about I guess everything you said in this video. You can really say the G very well! And you can say the R a lot better then I do. Though I'm Dutch I also say more of an "ARE" sometimes. I don't think it matters if someone says "DANSE" instead of "DANSEN", because a lot of dutch people say it like that. Some Dutch people are really bad at English accents, and you're very right about the TH. Sometimes they (we?) also say WIF instead of WITH.

  • 4:00 *sssssssnort* ... *sniffle* ... 4:10 ... damn that's some good sh!t.

  • Waarom kijk ik dit?

  • I am Dutch and German very similar if you speak Dutch or German you can understand quite well :) I speak German but I want to speak Dutch.

  • I love your eyes!

  • You look like you'd be dutch. I guess all dutch women are Goddesses. :-)

  • almost all dutch me to say. danse (-n) on old dutch tv you can hear it , back then you would say dansen. but only if its the last letter of the word. ;)

  • I like also the English accent of Dutch speaking Englishmen or Americans. You say the Dutch words really well, very easy to understand. How did the American accent evolve? Would like to know that, like the Americans in general.

  • @redbearinaz hahaha Groningen! I am from Frisia and my accent is clearly different, but for me Gronings sounds horrible XD

  • You are making the douns really well!

  • oh, and a lot of dutch people prenounce the 'th' like a 'f'

for example: i fink you're righd aboud dat.

  • well you don't have to prenounce the 'r' like a short 'd', i heard people prenounce it like a 'd' like you do, but also kinda like 'g' but the sound comes higher from the throat, and if a dutch word ends with a 'r' a lot of dutch people prenounce it just like the americans. hope this will help you to not sound american while speaking dutch. (: (and it's awesome btw you're interested in the dutch accent)

  • I was born in the States (now live in Phoenix, AZ) but my parents are from Groningen. I speak "gringo-dutch" (en ik koan ploat proaten--not sure how to write in gronings) but I notice when I watch Dutch TV that folks from the central-south of the Netherlands don't seem to use the "flap" r. For example, when they say "lekker" the final r sound is similar to the American r...lekkerrrr. Has anyone else noticed this?

  • u dooing it verrrrrrrrrrrrrry well im dutch

  • Yeah, that's true, but I didn't know the already was famous at that moment. Have you been to the Netherlands lately, and where?

  • How could you know her before she was famous? xD

  • Hi, I'm from the netherlands and I really enhoyed watching your video. You're definately right about the -th, I had to practice that for many times untill I finally could say it, especially the word 'thirteen' is hard to say. But I don't agree with your second point, because most dutch people don't have any problems with the -d. We only have problems with that as we try to speak fast:P. O, and I have a question: This video is uploaded in 2007, but Esmée Denters is only for 2 years famous now....

  • @Keesjhee Not true! Esmee was famous on YouTube when I posted this video, otherwise how would I have known about her?

  • @Prepoceros hahaha exactly, you shouldn't reply to stupid comments

  • I was enjoying this until the speed went nuts.

  • It's simply not true. The majority of Dutch people speak Dutch (obviously) and English to some degree, but the mastery of other languages is patchy and the number of people speaking French and German has declined sharply. English-learning has crowded out other languages. I think the view from America, where many have no second language, makes the Dutch simply appear to be multilingual, with Dutch/English and the often inadequate German/French. The border regions are the most proficient.

  • Even among Dutch people the R is pronounced in a lot of different ways.

  • Hee I'm from the Netherlands and I have to say that's it's true, when Amerikan people try to speak Dutch it usually sounds horrible.. But that's not just with the Amerikan people, Dutch is one of the most tricky languages I mean it every one in Every other country has a problem with the Dutch language, speaking, reading and especially writing..

  • @tesjuu It's not because Dutch is difficult, it's because it's unknown. Hardly anyone learns it or needs to learn it. Dutch is no more difficut than French or German, in fact it's probably easier for English speakers: fewer genders than either German or French.

  • hello ik vind jou video leuk. maar niet 100% corect. want ik ben geboren in Brabant en myn acent is almost french. so mishien kan je even verder denken veel liefs irene van thiel

  • When you drop the -n at the end of morgen it's not a big deal, most Dutch people just say morge or where I live even mogge.

When it comes to transition from the G into the R: I mostly use the back of my throat to say the R. It should make it easier to switch between these two sounds.

You can't believe how much I hate the Dutch accent. I myself am supposed to have a Canadian accent.

I actually know an American woman that lives in the Netherlands and she has this HUGE accent.

  • not all dutch speak the g like GGGG in other parts its a soft g

  • Great video and so true! You really know what you are talking about! Thumbs up and as we say in Holland : Laterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :)

  • You're actually pretty good! ;)

  • Cool video, pity about the frame skips.

Now me, I'm Dutch, but lived in Oklahoma for a couple of years as a teenager, so I speak American English with no accent at all. Unless I've developed one in more recent years, due to not speaking English very much.

Anyway, I personally find the Dutch accent cringeworthy when speaking English, while I have no such issues with other accents... which is probably tied into being able to recognize the Dutch accent, but no others. Familiarity, possibly?

  • Heya, I'm a Dutchie, I've been talking English all my life. And i mean British English. Anywhoo, The majority of the dutchies dont roll the 'R' in the front of our mouths, but at the back..

-And those of us who roll it at the back usually dont like the sound of the people roll it at the front.-

We roll it in the back of our mouths with the back of our tongue... Give it a try!!

It makes the whole s-g-r thing so much more easier, especially the g-r!!

  • I lovvveedd your video! You're so right! Although I must say that a lot of dutch people, even though trying really hard, they fuck up the English language by using dutch words or phrases and then literally translate them. Like the dutch question: "hoe laat is het?", which means "what time is it?", and translate it into: "how late is it?". I, for a dutch person myself, really hate that. Btw to answer your question, my accent is mingle if dutch, American and Australian:)

  • im dutch and im in america for a foreign exchange so this is really intresting to me !

  • @ilouisee0602 That is sooo cooool XD Where are you doing the exchange program? :D And how long are you gonna be there? I live in Southern California....I'd looove to go to Holland, though XD

  • You actually are pretty damn good at speaking Dutch when you pronounce the words! Also funny to see that you said my name right! My name's Ruth and still a lot of native English speaking people say it like the English version. I guess it's kind of hard :3

Also I don't have a Dutch accent at all it's really funny but I get so many comments on how Australian my accent sounds. Though at times it does sound a bit Dutch :3

  • Are you aware the the video speeds up about half way through? You sound a Dutch chipmunk. Let me know if you fix it because you're helping me to study for a Dutch accent for a play.

  • Wahahah xD

About that "we dutch people" speack MUCH languages :

On te elemetary schoolwe learn english,

On hihg school; Enlish. French, German, Spanish And Latin xD

  • @spinnewebje I had Italian and Greek added to your list. xD

  • Woah what happens with your video speeding up? 0_o

  • i speak english to xD and i'm dutch :)

  • HAHAHAH HOLLAAANDDD :D

  • I don't have trouble with the TH sound and I speak English fairly fluently but I can't rush it like most English can, naturally. If I rush I get tongue tied.

  • I'm not proud of being dutch

  • whoeeeee viva hollandia ;D

  • You know I live in the east of Holland there are a lot of Dutch accents.

I life in the east (twente) and I spoke like the people near Amsterdam but it changed to Twents (east of Holland). And in east the G and R is different again from other accents but also words like krijgen/morgen here we say krijge morge so we make it shorter also sounds like o,a,u we make them longer. In groningen they use a soft G so the G is a good example for different accents.

  • je moet gewoon proberen om nederlands te spreken als je het niet praat oefen je het ook niet dus gewoon blijven oefenen :) je moet je vooral niet schamen om iets verkeert te zeggen ze verstaan je heus wel :)

  • AHAHAH, No american can say this beer brand; Grolsch

XD my australian guests can't do it either. And by the way, most of the people in Denmark can also speak English.

  • wow! you speak the G very good!

ook een moeiljk woord (voor amerikanen): giraff

  • Comment removed

  • being dutch sucks.. you have to speak english wherever you go because no one speaks dutch.. I hate being dutch..

  • @LaLaLaJolien Suriname? And it doesn't sucks. In Nl you learn like... 3 languages!!

  • Hey im dutch but iv never think about how we speak out the words very funny.

    Like Gezellig, schreew.

i allway's want to speak english it sounds so smooth.

But the difficult word's i cant speak out like certificate how hard i try i cant get it right. Your also right about dutch people speaking english alot of dutch people speak it even my grandma but she speaks it like it's dutch very funny to hear.

Fun fact you u.s people know the R from the new song from rhianna man down ;)

  • Why would anyone want to learn Dutch? Just because you have Dutch family? I'm a Serbian guy living in Holland but I think both Serbo-Croatian and Dutch are useless if you don't speak it on such a high level that you can actually understand certain sayings, metaphors and other subtle jokes/references. It takes years to appreciate the language I think :D.

I like Russian and Portuguese much more... these languages have a very poetic sound in the first place.

  • SO LEARN DUTCH YOU BITCH!

  • Its true, I'm also Dutch, in school we learn speaking Enlgish, French, German and if you want to Spanish or Italian. It's true that not everywhere in the world people speak a little bit English, for example in Spain and Italy some people don't even know how to say yes and no.

  • Dutch is the worst language ever, be happy you can't speak it e__e

  • @LiterallyNoLife I'm happy I can speak!

  • Lol im dutch but i can't speak the R... it's more like the English R and dutch G combined... (I dont touch my mouth with my tongue... and its NOT Holland but Netherland! :) )

  • Wait, this is my brothers profile (we share a pc).

    Go to the username tomiatt2112.

  • Look, I'm 12 years old, and I never had English on school.

    Too, I always shorten words.

Example: "is not it?" = "isn't it?".

    I always pick the last.

Anyway, check out my video's to check that out.

  • where i work theres a guy who is dutch and he speaks english very beautifully too, he pronounces words so much more delicatly than the english do and this is coming from an english person

  • True, we can speak lots of langauges.

  • hi, the reason that all of the dutch speak english because it issin't that hard if you compare it to english.... an example? eehm like Water = Water, Television = Televisie, Good = Goed.... you see it issin't that hard :)

  • The G is a pure throatsound, Ghhhhhhhhhhh.

  • ACCENTS ? STUDY KARPERVIS.TRIPOD.COM MY SOUND PINYIN UI = AI = EI {IJ}

  • i'm from belgium, and dutch people aren't that great in languages, we get english, dutch, french and german at school ;)

  • @jonaske13 we do too! (;

  • Im dutch i dont roll my r, i roll the r in the back of my throat.

  • Hi prepoceros,

Just saw this vid, and i think you just doing great =). How are doing with your Dutch accent ? cause this vid is like 4 years old and i'm wondering how far you are with it.... Do you find it hard to learn ?!?.

btw...* of the record*: I live in Limburg (province in the Netherlands) and i don't use the R that you mentioned in your video, because i use a dialect of the dutch. Here is not everyone using the R, only in amsterdam, Utrecht...

    Cheers joshua

  • Haha great vid! Gotta say, your "Geboren" sounds very very dutch!

  • i must say, cudo's on your dutch, i'm dutch, and i know some people that where born in the netherlands, and they somehow have a thick american accent on their dutch, but with your dutch i hardly hear it.

  • hey i'm dutch i have a question is life in america boring because in the netherlands we have a lot of people and less space so it's very cozy but america is very big (still with a lot of people) but if i see a video in an american neighborhood most of the time it's like someone died, you see no one exept 2/5 people so the question :is life in america boring(for a normal person/kid)?

  • @dutch4340 I don't think life in America is particularly more boring than life in the Netherlands. Sure, the overall population density is lower, but we're not spread out evenly. There is a LOT of space where there's no people at all. Like the Netherlands, the US has some cities and some areas that are very rural. The difference may be that we have tons of people living in the suburbs, which is something I didn't see a lot in NL. I think suburban life is boring, so I live in a city. =)

  • @Prepoceros your great. btw im dutch xD

  • Great! My heart skipped a beat when you said ´s Gravenpolder. Most people outside of here would use ´s Gravenhage (The Hague) as an example. Anyway, of all the small villages there are in the Netherlands you happened to pick that one, It's a 5 minute drive from here, I live in Goes. Where does your family live?

  • @thomasjeeh My family lives mostly in Zeeland. I have one aunt and uncle in 's Gravenpolder.

  • @Prepoceros How cool is that, I live in Zeeland myself! Haha, so awesome I've read that. ;p

  • wel i say the th sound like a f

  • why did you speed it up? waarom heb je de video versnelt?

  • This is a really good vid! :D

  • ack kkch ckkkhukk ...spit....thats what i always thought they were about to do when dutch talk..hmm go figure

  • je hebt een leuke baan dit uit te leggen. Ik hou van mijn engels vrienden die proberen met mij te spreken in het Nederlands. Het is grappig, maar in ieder geval proberen. :)

    nice job...

  • WTF ze praat ineens wel erg snelx

  • sjonge jonge tis tog ni normaal meer !

  • Pleaaaase redo this video some time? It is so cool, but the sound is so messed up! I love your video's about Dutch- versus American-English =)

  • When i hear a dutch person speaking english i can just hear it, but with younger ppl its harder since yeah thing like you tube, I'm dutch myself and the majority of the internet thinks i'm American when they hear me, The Dutch accent in english is moving away i think, mainly since we got 90% of our movies not translated into Dutch, i don't care, evrything sounds more awesome in english, and all of our past 7 o' clock TV is in english wich is the only fun stuff to watch

    btw can you say "grondig"

I'm half Dutch and half American as well, but I was born and raised in The Netherlands, so I speak Dutch perfectly, and English fairly well. I think you are right about most things youo say in the video, although I never really pronounce the R as a rolling R, only if it's the first letter of a word, like radio. In words like 'rivier', I'll pronounce the first R as a rolling R, and the second one as an American R. :)

  • Yaaa the th you sed it!! that is still a problem 4 me my french is perfect but the th

in englisch.....wel it doesn't really matter because i love the dutch accent.

  • maar wij kunnen gewoon goed engels (A) school he ...

  • Dutch is so hard to learn the gramma

so happy i'm dutch and can speak it really good ^^

i alwso speak english indonesian en german :3

  • Your video speeds up after a while, why is this??

  • The Dutch/American/English "R" is very complicated in The Netherlands.

The extreme roling "R" as you demonstrated is MOSTLY used in the southern provinces (south of the 'Great Rivers', as some of us say), while regions like 'Het Gooi' (just south of Amsterdam) use the American/English "R" (so we call it: "De Gooise R").

But on the other hand, the really sharp "G" you demonstrated is only used north of these rivers. People from the south (which includes me) have a "Soft G."

  • By the way, i'm Dutch and i think you're right though. The only thing i didn't get was the part about Esmee Denters, saying 'this' instead of 'this'. I really didn't heard the difference about those two. Please respond 'cause i'm quite interested in that :P

  • thisthingthroughthoughtththththth hahaha

  • But they told me that the dutch women are pretty ಠ_ಠ

  • why is it speed up in the end?? :p

  • it's just so funny when i hear someone speaking dutch when they're not,but you're doing it very well,i'm not so good at inglish so i'm sorry:$ but i just love to hear you saying that you like the dutch accent, because there are al lot of people who are not like the Netherlands and who are just hate us but i don't understand why..and it's just so funny, most people are saying that the dutch people just walking sraight and that they're not saying hello but i'll think it's just where you are.

  • woow,

you can roll your RRRR a lot better than I can

you can really roll and flap with your tongue, I can't, that is I can pronounce the word 'brood' and 'bruin' correctly however

I can only pronounce an english RRR and sometimes produce a scrape like sound

    like in the word 'grappig'

    funny

  • HELP HELP HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im in a play in 3 weeks. I went to the auditions and I nailed the american accent because im american.so the asked me to do a Dutch accent. so I just sort of winged it. it was sort of Dutch French and Russian put together. since no one else tried I got the Dutch part of a young lady. In the play I have a farther.the actor can speak a dutch accent. im really trying but i have no idea how to do it..can you mack a video.saying alot of word in english with accent

  • Dutch don't flap the r and don't say rrrrrrrrrrrr so excessively, those R's are typical for Spanish and Italian. Dutch has several R's, even an R which resembles the American R a.k.a the Gooise R and used too much on tv IMO.

  • But I really want to make video's in english and I would love to be more fluent. And if someone asks me something in english and I answer them, I'm not worried about how I sound. In those situaties it's easier, because you're focused on the answer and not the way you sound. And surprise, surprise, when you stop thinking about it, you're better at it. Highly irritating. I've thought about improving my english by just reading english books out loud. That may help. Anyway, nice video's.

  • It's funny, cause I attempted to make my first YouTube video today and I just couldn't do it. I hate the way it sounds when I speak english. I feel self concious about it when I think about people listening. But when I think about others who speak english with any other accent I don't mind listening to it. And the most annoying thing is that I know the language. In my head I'm fluent, but when I try to speak, the words get stuck in my mouth and trip over my teeth on the way out.

  • translate.google.nl

  • I'm sorry that was my brother, sorry dat was m'n broertje.

  • Hi, im dutch

do you know '' ik kan'' ?

*srry my english is not good*

or ''ik heb een hond en hij kan alles''

  • @PJGKoopman Ik begrijp de vraag niet. Kan je weer in het Nederlands vragen?

  • @Prepoceros its never too late to learn dutch ^^

my grandmother learned it at age 65 xD and she speaks it fluently now

  • @Prepoceros I'm Dutch but I don't understand the question either... :s

PS: It's : Kan je HET weer in het nederlands vragen, haha (I'm sorry)

  • @Prepoceros You shouldn't generalise; not every single Dutch person speaks English, nor do they want to. English is the main language of international commerce, yet many Dutch people are not at all proficient in English, and many Dutch children these days don't make good marks for a foreign language at all. We could also say the same for Americans. They don't really place any emphasis on learning a foreign language, even though their ancestors originated elsewhere.

  • I know you meant to say 'bye guys', but dag jongens is not really a sentence ducht people say that mutch :') its like you're talking to your sons ore something :')

  • @LiovaElise I meant to say "bye kids." It's my sign-off.

  • @Prepoceros in that case it would have been best to say: dag kinderen or even dag kids(we use that in holland to)

  • the g from the dutch is really strong. it is not very nice if you ask me. in dutch in Belgium (south of the Netherlands) they don't use that strong g or english sounding r. it's more like in french

  • you are sooo lucky to even be part dutch!

  • @oskampioen nice you can speak the country greece haha

  • As for theee... Dutch to English. I myself speak with a distinct British accent, despite being Dutch, due to having taught myself the language through BBC and British comedy. Even though my Dutch accent is hardly recognisable, there is - at times - no doubt that English isn't my native language, through the whirs of Scottish/Welsh accent that I usually pronounce myself with (due to the rolling of my Rs, and my laziness in pronouncing all the words in English - can't be arsed). I like this vid!

  • Don't worry about the -en too much, darling. I drop the -n all the time. But it's really just out of laziness, I suppose. And the 'd' in Goede (Goedemorgen), gets turned into a 'j' (but written as an 'i' as in Goeie). So you'll get like 'Goeie morge.' Which is... in my experience, typically Dutch. Most Dutch people don't really pronounce their language as it's actually written. Takes way too long, and slurring it is easier. XD

  • I would LOVE to hear your dad's Tenessee/Dutch accent.

  • 's Gravenpolderrrrrr (Amerikaanse r op het eind haha)

  • rrrrrrrrrrrrr ^^

  • ja ik ben nederlands and yes i speak english

  • Nederlands is ook gewoon fucking moeilijk om te leren, als dat niet je moedertaal is

(Dutch is just really fucking hard to learn, if it is not your native language)

    yep, im dutch,

and btw, even in dutch there are different types of R's and G's and stuff, which makes it confusing

  • I think their is about 1 foreigner who does speak Dutch? Dont worry, we'll pay attention in English class xD
