@yellginlaguay wtf are you talking about? After Carson took over, no one guest hosted anymore. Stand-up comics are still on the show from time to time. Idiots these days...
No one seems to understand that Leno had the Tonite show TAKEN from him for Conan.. too bad for 'Coco', his comedy, albeit good, is not right for the Tonite time slot and NBC execs(the ACTUAL people who have a beef with Lettermen)hated Conan gettin whipped in the ratings by Dave, so they want their money man back to beat Letterman's ratings. If Letterman's ratings were better than Leno's, Dave would be siding with Jay.. Conan cries foul by Leno, but it was his own ratings that did him in!
AMEN! I mean they are morons. He has it forced from him, though he still wanted it. He gave it up, without incident. He took a show he didnt want because they didnt want hi leaving NBC, show fails, they still dont want him to leave so they come up with a half hr before conan, he suffers, not conan, but conan said, no ill just leave. NBC says Jay you want the show you never wanted to leave in the first place back? He says sure and hes made to be a monster. Pisses me off!
@thumbbody conans humors not right for the tonight show? lenos got no humor. he was just a stand up comedian never a reason for him to have a show in the first place. he sucked at first, late 90s got better, early 2000s was tolerable and ever since then its been downright terrible. the tonight show needed a new host instead of being the same crap as always. conans ratings wouldve improved with time probabbly.
People seem to dislike Leno because he got given The Tonight Show by NBC...why is that his fault? Sure Letterman was the better host (not anymore) but it was NBC that passed over him in favour of Leno.
Same thing with Conan, NBC told Leno he was going back to 11:35, Leno wanted to be released from his contract, NBC said no.
He is absolutely a scapegoat for NBC's unpopular decisions which is unfair because everything I've seen from him he seems like a genuinely nice guy.
The thing is if you are Jay and you are about to retire and you know the network is going to give your job to somebody else you leave the network...you dont stay around and get a10 pm time slot because then you know if the next guys isnt as good they will bring you back and wouldcause nothing but trouble.....
@Powderwombat it just seems a little weird that his being involved in these two tonight show conflicts would be just a coincidence. hes pretty forgettable as a host, and as far as his personality, sometimes it seems too phony
it is sad to see that they are no longer friends It would be nice to see them reunite on jays show or on his after all thanks to jay, letterman is number 1 in the ratings right now
It seems that Dave won't talk to Jay but Jay has no issues with Dave. Jay did an interview in GQ and in it he said he wrote Dave when Dave had his heart problems; he thanked Dave for everything he did for him ...ect. he has never heard back from Dave.
The Tonight Show used to used to show comics and have guest stars. Leno was given his shot at both.
Leno takes over Tonight Show and doesn't allow guest hosts, and all but gets rid of stand-up comics.
Whata douche.

Leno's a dong. Letterman may have been beaten by him in the ratings but he's always been the most critically acclaimed host.

How many times did Letterman change his set? I've watched about 5 of these Letterman interviews of Leno, and every time the set is different.

Back when Late Night TV wasn't an embarrassment.
I wish I was older than 1 at the time so I could remember it.

On each visit, Leno has been consistent at jabbing Dave with his "Cushy-job-sitting-behind-a-desk" jokes . Pretty savvy.
(That last word I typed was "s a v v y" --- those V's together look funny for some reason)
Dave handing Jay back the sandwich. Good timing. Classic.
They played off each other so well.
