Out of curiosity, cause I saw it in another vid that had nothing to do with this laptop, he used it and the back lit keyboard was blue, is it possible to change the color?
comparing these two graphic cards: ati mobility radeon 5650 or the integrated nvidia 9400m? also, is NEW 2010 Intel® Core™ i5-450M 2.4GHz (2.66GHz Turbo Mode, 3M Cache) better than Intel® Core™2 Duo? thanks for the help. ALSO, is this better than the studio 17?
yeah when you run a game on very high graphics settings, its kind of loud, but it doesn't bother me, i just turn up the sound for the game on my speakers
i have a Dell Studio XPS 13...i dont like it at all...when i put on performance boost and play anygame it starts to stutter REALLY much..wheni put on energy save mode it doesns tutter att all BUT the hybrid SLI isnt in use....
I have heard that it has got the only problem that is its excess heat it liberates.... i am planning to get this.!! should i buy... somebody help me out.Please.
my friend got one 2 weeks ago and it does get pretty hot when your running games (what laptop wont?) other than that its a great system for its price..
id wait until windows 7 comes out, maybe 2-3 weeks so you dont have to do fresh installs etc.
Well mine crashed after I did extreme gaming in the heat for a while, I got a cooling pad, been fine since, but the Studio XPS 16 has bigger feet to help with cooling, bigger speakers, 3 USB instead of 2, a subwoofer, and a lot more power in CPU, Graphics, RAM, and just a bigger screen is nice.
I never have looked at what types of future releases there are going to be for CPUs, but now I'm interested in it, it looks like there's a ton coming in January.
I guess that's something to keep in mind, if they say what's going to be released, and when it comes out there's probably a special.
I just noticed that you now have the successor to the M1330 and couldnt help wondering whether you exchanged it (as broken?) or just straight out bought the studio, in which case youre clearly filthy rich ;)
My warrenty's finishing soon, is there any way to swap it?Is the performance much improved to validate the upgrade?
You can't just "swap" your older, less expensive XPS for a brand new, more expensive XPS. If anything, if there is something very, very wrong with your M1330 and it cannot be repaired, they may send you a new/refurbished M1330.
this laptop would probably be just as hot as any other laptop. The reason it was so hot is bacause he was using it on a carpet, which is not good for ventilation. You are supposed to use laptops on a flat surface like a table
does the bios update actually fix the heating problem since the screen still blocks the exhaust?
also, just how bad do the fingerprints look on the glossy screen after use for a good period? Any insight would be great because those are my two major concerns.
ähm dude I´ve got one question: I wanna buy this laptop for gaming. I wanna play stuff like Crysis, GTA4, Left 4 Dead, prototype and Left 4 dead 2. Is it worth the money? I know that I can enhance the processor for about 300bucks but I just want the basic one so...
It's funny you say that because I just finished Crysis Warhead on the computer I'm watching this video on which happens to be a Dell Studio XPS 13. ^o^
Yeah I tried Crysis out a bit on mine, not bad for L4D, but it's just not powerful enough for you to really use as your full time gaming computer for all of today's games, unless you don't mind some of the settings you'll set it to.
saying a brand name dosent really help. its all specs. i compared this laptop to the alienware m15x and witht he same specs this was cheaper. brands dont matter.
alienware m15x has shitty specs other than much better video card. M15x runs on ddr2 memory at 600mhz) xps 13 runs on ddr3 1066mhz. Plus xps 13 has faster processor and better fbs and more cache. overall its better in everyway but the video card. I love how the m15x looks it fucking sexy i would of gotten it but dd2 slow crap come on
I know this is 3 months ago, but the Studio XPS 13 in this video, (and the one I'm typing with) is 9400M G which is integrated graphics, the Studio XPS 16 now has a Core i7 and 1 GB of graphics memory, you'll have more luck with it for gaming.
I have this same system (bigger hard drive though), and it can run Crysis at a decent frame rate, but at almost the dead bottom settings.
First: Thank you Second: I just want to play Garrysmod at 60fps or even more. I like playing GMODRoleplay so my framerate always drops to 15. If this laptop can handle GMOD at 60fps Ill surely buy it ;D
On this system, I did HL2 just fine probably doing like 30 FPS or so.
I also did Dead Space at about medium settings just fine.
It also meets the recommended specs for The Orange box.
However, I'd recommend something with some more graphics power if you can spend a bit more and are ok with a little heavier laptop, a little bigger screen would be nicer for gaming too.
Wondering about the specs of this computer and the COD4 settings. If this unit came with the 9500M GE (integrated 9400M + dedicated 9200M GS). In high performance with hybrid SLI on, setting the "Dual Video Cards" to "Yes" in the COD4 options might increase performance. If it wasn't ordered with the upgraded graphics, never mind.
Great laptop, and excellent performance, though im thinking on buying an ASUS, to be exact, the G50vt, which has same specs than thisone, and most of all, a better graphics card, the nvidia geforce 9800m gt, and both are at the same price. The main difference between this Dell and ASUS, is that dell is a smaller and more protable laptop by being a 13" while the asus is a 15" whcih makes it a little bit more heavier, BUT more comfortable for games, as for the other things, both are great.
Out of curiosity, cause I saw it in another vid that had nothing to do with this laptop, he used it and the back lit keyboard was blue, is it possible to change the color?

5650 by far, I have the 9400M G and I don't really like it.
Core i5-450M is better than most Core 2 Duos.

the nvidia g210 is the best option to the video card. it can run codmw2 well and it can run all your mmorpgs perfectly like world of warcraft
bajojoes 2 years ago
For the cost it should have at least 3 USB ports. I wonder how well the optional nVidia 210 does in comparison to the 9500 GPU?

Eh, it runs it decently, at above lowest settings and at a good frame rate, but you'd want a bigger screen and better performance for serious gaming.
Still, fully playable.

Is this machine is capable of running Assasin's creed 2,if it doesn't then wat about xps 16???
AvadaKedavra2392 2 years ago
It meets the required specs for Assassin's Creed 1, most of the recommended, and required specs for Assassin's Creed 2, not too sure on recommended.
I'm going to try Assassin's Creed 1 on it soon, maybe I can tell you about it.
It's good with Dead Space.
But a bigger screen and more graphics power is better, the Studio XPS 16 has that.
Mine is this system, but more hard drive, and you can get my system with slightly more CPU speed and windows 7 for $930 at best buy.

My experience with dell
I order a laptop XPS studio on March this year
In May after a lot of calls asking what happened they send to me an ordinary email saying that is lost in the send.
That I have 2 options, they can send it again or return my money.
I didn want to wait another month so I ask for the money (but it will take 48 days)
However they charge the 3 monthly quotas from my credit card.
Now in August Im still waiting for my money, and the support number..no solutions really useless.
