  • Loved the song and the video ^_^

  • Tears surely fall from my eyes when hearing his sweet voice...his lyrics live in my heart and have in my life

  • Never heard this one before from Dan. Lovely pictures!

  • what the hell is this? this song is very much about WAY more than ballet! Ballet has very little to do with it...

  • Being a dancer, loving this song, feeling the soul, movement, and the wonderment, I'ts hard to know just what his thoughts were writing this song, I am however glad that he did!

  • One of two of Dan Fogelberg's best in my heart. If there is a live video of this and one of you out there has it could you share or guide me to where!

  • as a woman, this song is so amazing and shall I say makes me dream of being in the scene he is singing of...and one does not have to be a dancer, per se, but the way we perform and share with one other person....

    gorgeous song!

LOVE DF too! my all time fav

  • nicely done, exquisite acoustics and video

  • Beautiful!

  • lovely

  • At this point, four people have taken the time to give this song a thumbs down.

    I guess I just don't get it.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • Disagree with the comment about the images being too quick. It's timed perfectly to the music. Just beautiful. Thanks for posting.

  • ....more than dream, or imagination, into the timless synchrony of love...

  • everyone is talking about that mp4ify site. where can i find it? rips audio and video from any youtube video to mp3 or mp4 files?

  • great , beautiful song ..lyrics, melody and harmonies!

  • Just think about melody, and lyrics and put them together magic !!!

  • This is dedicated to the memory of Elizabeth Perry Fleming

    April 29, 1982 - October 31, 2008

    One Year Ago Today

Your Spirit will always be Dancing In Our Hearts and Minds!

  • my favorite dan fogelberg song R I P dan thanks for the great music

  • ...dying swan on the dawn you danced before me....

  • One his best songs from one of his best albums. Memories to cherish!

  • I hear you, chromacopy. It's almost like he was two different guys: 1, the leader of the bland, MOR guy; 2, an amazingly gifted singer/songwriter. Know what I mean?

  • Mississippi is so close to New Orleans, I admire Dan's lyrics in this song! French is almost a second language down here. I hear you Dan! Thanks for creating this song. May you always be remembered for your song writing as well as your voice.

  • This was a favorite of a girl I knew long ago, a dancer too, I recall her candle lit loft, a bottle of wine, this song....and her.

Haven't heard it in over 30 years.

A sweet memory of a beautiful woman, I should've looked back instead of returning to the sea. Ah well.

Alicia, I hope you found a man smart enough to stay and love you as you deserved to be. Take care.

And here's to Dan F. a master songwriter.

  • this is beautiful. THANK YOU

  • they had a picture of The Great Russian Moscow Ballet i danced with them wen i was like 9ish 10ish im a little older now tht was in elementary school i just strted high school. i love dance been dancing for a while now

  • This song is for my daughter Amanda, I will Love You Always!

  • I seem to be dominating comment on this, but I want you folks to appreciate the subtle yet profound major vs. minor play Fogelberg engages in. I mean, at the end of each main phrase of the verses, he plays an A add9 (major), then shifts seamlessly to Amin. Dig it! As in Souvenirs, Be On Your Way, and others, he's milking the magic of descending bass lines, and blending with his own voice and fabulous falsetto and wistful mood.

  • As btex 99 said, the synching job is very good. However, I do feel there is something perhaps rather important lacking. I mean, the whole premise of the song is that it is a sustained metaphor for a sexual love relationship; and that element is missing in the video as I see it. In addition, this song encapsulates Dan's profound ability to capture the mixed wistful emotions of a love gone by, while wishing her well sincerely: "I pray you never shed your dancing shoes."

  • HYPNOTIC. His music was so peaceful.

  • yes. can anyone find 'lookin' for a lady'?

  • Super beautifull song, very impressive voice and very good job on the sync with the photos thanks to Dan and all of you.

  • missy austin 73

  • Cada vez que te escucho una lagrima recorre mi mejilla, nunca te olvidaremos porque ya formas parte de nuestra vida. Hasta siempre Dan

  • Beautifully done! This has always been my favorite Dan Fogelberg song.

    We miss you, Dan.

  • He had an amazing voice.

  • yeah, esp. his falsetto; and the seamless transition from his falsetto to his 'true' voice. I love it on Souvenirs. Check it out!

  • Great job on syncing the photos to the song. As with many other posters, this song has incredible personal resonance for me. Ah, to be once again young and in love in the '70s...

  • This makes me cry

  • That is the correct response.

BTW, who would like to compare Dan with James?

  • There is no comparison. They are two different artists with their own style and I adore both.

  • Yes, cyberlucy, that is the correct answer. It's a case of apples vs. oranges, right?

  • Dan was not only a Master Musician, but also a Master Lyricist and genius. His legacy will grow and grow and grow some more. He is the definition of greatness.

  • ...Dan, you describe a very synchronistic moment of mine like in "Dancing Shoes" where I found and lost true love so quickly that it's as if in some way I'll never dance again...(playing and thinking the song finds it again for me forever, thanks up there to you Dan!)

  • great video and how perfect for a perfect Dan Fogelberg song. This album was so full of great songs as usual from Dan. He was so talented and I am grateful that he shared his talent and songs with us that will live forever.

    rest in peace Dan.

thanks again for posting this song and great visuals to go along with !

  • i still can't beleive that dan is gone from this earth,he and his music will always live in my heart, to think about him and listing to his music still brings tears to my eyes,he guided me throgh some tough time and was such a great writer and played many differant instruments with such talant,my heart goes out to his family and fans ,I know he is resting in peace . he was much loved by millions of people, THANK YOU DAN!

  • Five thumbs down for your original comment. What does that tell you?

  • Sorry, four thumbs down as of now. I stand corrected.

  • Sheesh - easy now - my comments were meant to be constructive, not cruel - a better response would have been, "I'll consider what you have to say," or "I kindly disagree with you." Enough cheap shots! This is a forum for this type of thing - if Tage chooses to allow comments, that his/her choice - Man!

  • Okay, I kindly disagree with you unkind comment. There.

  • Dan wrote this song for his wife at the time, who was a ballerina.

  • Your picture slide show is beautiful, well done and very much appreciated, especially for the price that we all pay to watch your efforts. Watching this video and listening to the wonderment of Dan Fogelberg enhanced my day, and for that priceless moment...I thank you SIR!!! EDWARD in ATLANTA!!

  • You change pictures way too quickly to be effective...

  • You do it better then. You go make one and do it better then come tell me and I will come watch yours. Peace to you.

  • What?! The pictures go in perfect sync with the music! I thank Tage for all of her efforts. Her wonderful videos have given me great comfort since Dan's passing.

  • I didn't say the pictures weren't in sync - but they are not in perfect sync either - apparently, folks really enjoy these videos - and that's fine - my personal feeling is that there are too many pictures, they move too quickly, and they don't have anything to do with the meaning of the song.

  • Thanks, CherchezMoi, for your kind comments. This was one of the very first vids I ever made, but there are always people like Mordor who are quick to pick fault with other people's work. I am glad that you enjoyed the vid just how it is.

  • Your love and respect for Dan is evident in your videos, and I so appreciate that! I see your videos as gifts, and I thank you! And it's obvious to me that all but ONE person feels the same exact way!

  • @mordorsbane Even tho this post was 2 years ago, everytime I see it, it slays me. So,,,, I just have one thing to say to the person that posted it...... stfu :) the video that was created to go with the song was beautiful.

  • @lynnes76 well-said - about as profound as that godawful video!

  • My father is a big fan of Dan. I grew up listening to all of his albums. When I was little, I could not stand this music. But when I got older it grew on me, I fell in love with 70s soft rock. We miss you Dan, and now you are resting in peace. Thanks for displaying your talent to the world.

  • This song is beautiful for so many reasons...Dan's voice, the music he wrote, the guitar and how he played it. Very romantic without the vulgarity of some of today's "love" songs. Dan walked the line with his lyrics. He was so intelligent and a perfect storyteller.

  • Great video,Dan was so deep his sweet lyrics and harmony mixed so well.Another winner Tage.

  • i still cry when i hear this song. a truly loving soul dan was. another gift his fans never can repay to him. his songs touched so many of us. it is a shame. he had no children to pass his talent to, as part of his living legacy.

  • Hate to be totally unsentimental here but the fans repaid it every time they bought the albums and went to the concerts. In order for an artist to be able to leave a legacy, someone has to accept the art in the first place. As for his never having kids, some people prefer to be able to depart this life in the knowledge that they have not left too many to cope with their departure. It is not that I agree with this sentiment, it is just something someone once told me.

  • Kimberele,

I agree with you. The fact is, Dan Fogelberg, like most great artists, would have created this art had he been paid or not. It is what makes him an artist. His parents, particularly his father, left a legacy Dan never could repay....Dan's legacy is his music and these songs are his children.

  • kmrs1959,

yes you are right, i like the way you think, he

was a brilliant artist of many talents. he is sorely missed by us all. thankyou for your comment.

  • another stunning piece by Dan; this guy had such tremendous gifts it's unbelievable.

His passing early is difficult to stomach but look at the legacy he created. It's beyond impressive.

  • god what a song and beautiful song ty.

  • Still one of my favorite Dan songs!! such a pretty song ~ my 8 year old daughters favorite song. This and scarecrows dream - I play over and over for her just like I did in college!! his music is timeless!!

  • DANCING SHOES WAS A sexy romantic song to his wife(at that time), however, Jean was his true soul mate. She blessed him and I believe was his best joy in his life. Jean--thank you for loving our dear Dan : )

blessings to you as you gently settle into life now alone in parts, but also taking in the sun's warmth and Dan's love for you always.

    : )

  • dancing hearts never stop , they are forever dancing

  • When I was a child my parents had a yacht on LAke Texoma nad Dan was the music of choice they would use his music to entertain others. I was young then and he quickly became my favorite, I am now in my 30s and still love his music, and will forever love his music. He will always live in my heart. Dan you are the best of the best and I miss you with all my heart! I love you Dan, but my all time favorite is one of your lesser known pieces, "Long Way", There will only be one musician for me, you!!!

  • "Long Way" is also my favorite Dan Fogelberg piece...I played it and cried when he passed. Glad it means something to another soul...

  • Lovely! This is one of my favorite Dan Fogelburg songs.I was so sad to hear of his passing.Thank-You for the music,Dan. We miss

    you. R.I.P. patybear

  • Another fine video you've made.Good job!

  • I heard Graham Nash along with Joe Walsh on Larry King and they spoke about the death of their friend Dan with much love and compassion. Danny was a class act all the way. We will miss you Dan.

  • His wonderful music stands for itself. On his website someone wrote "it is hard to imagine heaven, without Dan there". So very true. To the Morning (from Home Free) may very well be the most beautiful song ever written and recorded...if you have not listened to it, do. Dan wrote and recorded it at either 17 or 18 yrs old...what a magical talent

  • Greg, I agree with your thoughts on "To the Morning" is very beatiful! I didn't hear all those albums, but I did end up with the boxed set, by default: joined a record club--and wow! it's been over ten years and that set is still super valuable to me. I love the many facets of this man.

He was truly a prodigy. He has left a lovely mark on the world. We are still being touched. Recordings are such a blessing : )

  • A friend in deed .The world lost a great maker of great songs !

  • Funny but it seems all of us who so loved this man's music feel like we have lost a friend. I guess that is what happens when you share your soul through your music.

  • It really is amazing how different Dan was, and how personal the songs are. They just penetrate the shells we make to protect ourselves from a world of scorn and pain. How great it is that he recorded so much music and there is so much to each song. You can listen again and hear something you never heard before each time.

  • Sorrow is such a large part of life and Dan taught us we need to acknowledge it, challenge it, endure it, and find a way to go on. All of you that share the spirit have certainly helped. Bless you all.

  • 21 years ago my brother married his true love Carlene. 4 a wedding present I took they're pictures of life & made a video collage' then filmed their wedding & made my 1st ever video. The music I chose 2 play w/in the beautiful moment was this very song by Dan. And 2 this day it's still one of my most cherrished songs ever. It's even more sad that it's creator 2 has passed through the gates of forever. We'll miss u Dan. & thank u 4 what you've left behind. Carlene 2 passed away 11 years ago:(

  • For 30+ years, Dan said things I've felt but could never explain. Every person in my life shares one of his songs spiritually. I've never felt such sorrow for the passing of a loved one, truly a void that will never be filled. Yet, I feel a kindred spirit that has made life much richer. Thank you Dan, and you Jean. It is obvious how much he loves you and what joy you brought him: you were the constant in the chaos and the fulcrum in the void. If I'm this sad I can't imagine what you feel.

  • Wow...So Talented -Beautiful!

  • OMG - I cry too easily. I used to listen to that in the 70's and loved it them...I think this is probably the first time I've heard it in 30 years. I was still a ballerina then.

  • You are still a ballerina now.

  • This is one of my favorite Dan Fogelberg songs...tears are streaming as I listen. I've danced in so many pairs of dancing shoes...dancing and Dan's music...joy and now, saddness...

  • I thought the sadness would pass, but it is the same each day. "The lines of life are never long when seen from end to end, the future's never coming and the past has never been".

  • I can't believe he is gone...it's hard to listen to his voice, hear his words, without getting emotionally upset. He touched my life more than any other musician/artist ever has...

  • I agree. It's not just like one of the many artists that wrote ro sang something you liked. It is very different. Most people don't get it, but at his shows it was like 20,000 people that felt the same way...

  • I'll never forget the way I felt when I saw him in concert. Truly, I felt like I was the only person there and he was singing just for me. It was pure magic. One of the most special times was when I actually met him and shyly, asked for his autograph. He was very gracious. It was in a little bar in Williamsburg, VA (1984) and it was right after the concert. You're right, most people don't 'get it' and most of the time, I kept to myself the deep feelings I had for his music.

  • not enough space in the last comments to finish...The last time I heard him in concert was in 2003 at Wolftrap Farms in Vienna VA. It had been a few years since I saw him and my memory just flooded back with the same warm, deep and soulful feelings.

  • You are so fortunate. For various reasons, I last saw him in 1994 in Tampa at USF Sundome. I wanted to take my girlfriend to see him and was looking to see when he was coming to town in 2004 when I found out he was ill. I'm in mourning as though I lost my best friend...I had no idea I would be affected like this.

  • Yes, his life, music and now his passing...has profoundly affected me. Spiritually, I know he will always be with us but emotionally, my heart is very, very sad. Its hard to listen to his voice without that empty tug pulling at my heartstrings...

  • dido

  • right on.........

  • Anyone: What do the Latin? French? phrases translate to?

  • French: You are in my heart and in my head. (Tu et dans mon coeur and dans mon tete)and Who can say whats false and what is real?

(Qui peut dit le faux et le real?)

  • merci' beaucoup

  • Netherlands, Had the 8 track, Album, at least 2 cassettes, and downloaded from Rhapsody.

    The best!!!!

  • I have been a fan of Dan's since High School back in 1979. Dancing shoes was a song I used to play for my daughter when she was little. Over her crib was a pair of ballet slippers and we used to sing it. Rest in Peace Dan, you are truly missed. Thanks for songs that share some of the fondest memories in my life.

  • I just ordered this album Friday for my daughter for Christmas.. she loves this song. She is 15 years old...Dan will continue on. There is still hope for the future generation! Dan, you will be missed.

  • thanks dan...one of my two favorites. the other can be found on "twin sons of different mothers" with tim weisberg..."what i'll give you since you've asked"...fond memories...rip poet.

  • sorry!! no thumbs down tolzersf!!! hit the wrong thing!!! I agree, if I had to choose(there are so, so many) Dancing Shoes is one of my top 5 songs Dan wrote, but I absolutelt love the way he sings Since you Asked--makes me cry every time!!!!! What an artist Dan was--he is so so missed--it still hurts to think of him gone :(

  • agree...human sentiment is a very powerful blessing, at at times a curse. Those two songs in particular represent so many things, people, events in my life between 1978-81 or so and they all come back as if it were yesterday...shame that love this intense doesn't last forever for most people...sad...

  • Oh yeah...Wisteria is another that will put you right over the edge as well...

  • I love Wisteria also! What a great song and I love the way Dan sings it-so haunting! There is not much NOT to like about any given Dan song!!!!

  • caseyk928...you probably already have at some point before, but listen to Aubrey by Bread. even without music...a great poem. But another great example of a song "tugging me back"...

  • Sorry, dont remember that one, though I havent listened to Bread since way, way, way back. But if I could hear it now, I probably would remember it!!

  • Tu es dans ma coeur et dans ma tete

  • One of his best.

    Thanks Dan

  • This is my second favorite of his.

  • The album on which Dancing Shoes appears is actually called Nederlands (not Nether Lands), which is the town in Colorado, USA where Dan lived for many years on his ranch.

  • I have the album here right in front of me and it is spelled "Nether Lands". The music off this album is some of the most haunting he ever made, I think.

  • Agreed

  • Yes, yes, you are right. I am wayyyy too distracted!

  • It's a wordplay on "Nederland", a small mountain town above Boulder, Co. It used to be paradise. A lot of incredible music was recorded at Caribou Ranch north of town. Joe Walsh recorded

    "Barnstorm" there.

  • Yes, purpledavo, that makes sense.

  • Dear Dan, This video is a tribute to your most beautiful song ever. With your passing, a piece of my innocence is gone -- all over again. God bless you, and also Tage for making the video.

  • When this song was new, so long ago, it came at a time when I was losing my childhood innocence,

Today, with his passing, it feel as if I have lost it yet again.

    Thanks, and Rest In Peace.

  • my dad just sent me this video/song....its awesome....what a sad sad day!! the leader of the band is gone

  • So sad that he has passed on.

This is one of his most beautiful songs ever.

  • Tu es dan ma coeur et dans ma téte

  • my favorite...part of me is gone. Thank you for gracing us with your time here on Earth.

  • I am so sad to hear of Dan's passing. I been a big fan for years. Thank you Dan for sharing your talent with us. Now you are free of pain. You will be remembered through your works. Peace.

  • I had a chance to see you twice in concert. Once by yourself, and the other time with your band. You were great in both concerts, but as a solo artist you had us all in the palm of your hand. Your music was truly inspirational to an entire generation. Your beautiful melodies, and simple yet poignant lyrics moved so many. I became a recording artist myself due to you. Rest in peace. We will all miss you, but we will have your music-- which is timeless.

    God bless,

    Mark Anthony Anderson

  • A friend called me at 3:00am crying to tell me the sad news. We both are saddened by his passing. We will always love you Dan...thank you for changing our lives in such meaningful ways.

  • He's with his dad now.

We are left with the memory of the time.

    went to fast.

    life/love

  • Thank you for the years that your music has touched me. I am a songwriter and have learned so much from such graceful giants like youself. May heaven prepare for the greatest of the great. As you enter in the gates know that your music will live on in me.

    Love you Dan,

    au revoir

    Charlette Silva

  • Thanks, Dan. You comforted me in some very dark times. Our loss is Heaven's gain. Rest in peace, Friend.

  • how sad... just read he passed away playing his music in tribute........ so sorry

    barbie

  • Just heard the news from a friend in Canada. What a sad loss for the world, what a great gain for the arenas of heaven. Rest in peace, Dan.

  • Thanks for posting this... now that he's gone, I will treasure his music all the more, if such a thing is possible...

    Cowboy

  • Love this album Netherlands and also the four before that!

  • I said that Dan Fogelbergs music need to be made in to a movie.. many years ago ...people need to hear this music, its life music, it would be like burning master works of art to forget such music...

  • Beautiful song & video; great album the Netherlands; special maning for his fans like me from the Netherlands (Europe. Hope there will be a new album in the future.

  • Thanks for this, the video fits perfectly.the Netherlands album is one of his best. Although I like almost all. He touches on the environment later. Voice changes because of age and I think gets tonsils out.(if my memory serves.)Very talented man. Hope all is well with him.

  • This song was written for his first wife, Maggie, who, by the way, was a ballerina.

  • Wow, Gail, what a coincidence, I didn't know that.

  • Man .. takes me back. Thanks.

  • You're welcome, Highcap.

  • huh well this is nice but for some reason it doesn't sound much like dan fogleberg... his voice is a bit odd and there isn't as much instrumentation as he usually has. i still like it though. thanks for posting. Dan Fogelberg rules!!!

  • The song is from his 1976 album, Nether Lands and is definitely Dan. The whole album is quite different to his other stuff though, perhaps he was going through a 'phase' at the time?

  • Thanks for posting them. Dan is one of my favorite artists, and I live what you've done to compliment his work.

  • Thank you, CyberLucy:)

  • TageKaliandrino -- when you DO post more Fogelberg ... could you e-mail me and let me know? These are AWESOME! Awe-inspiring! I am ... jflinn2005 at yahooDOTcom.

  • Yeah, Chromacopy, I know. As far as I know, the Dan Fogelberg songs I have posted in here are the only ones in here and I find that odd. I almost posted False Faces, but decided not to, but I do have a couple of others I intend posting eventually.

  • Tage, My Son is a Morris Dancer and is taking some dance classes in College. His teachers are constantly saying "stop stomping". He won't.:) He says stomping is the fun of dancing. So you just keep the baby elephant form of Dance! Worst thing that could happen is that some one will shake their head, and say "sighhhh, folk dancers...."

Thanks for the beautiful video! Long time since I heard that song. And remember, dancing shoes can be sneakers!

  • Thank you, KTness. I hope your son realises his dreams and these days I just enjoy making pictures dance to the music. I'm glad that you enjoyed this video. Peace to you and yours:)

  • Hi Kalispirit, I put to the music images that kind of interpret what I think and feel when I hear the songs. Most, I guess, come from personal experience of times in my life. Some of Dan's songs are very haunting aren't they? I dread to think what Dan would make of these vids, but I enjoy making them so will continue on with it. Good to hear from you again.

  • Yes, absolutely continue on. I wouldn't venture a guess what Dan might think of my interpretations either.

I'd imagine that his visuals would be quite different from anyone else's, and may have gone through many changes since first composed. But good music is fluid. It resonates within each listener as an expression of our own making, changing over time as we grow.

  • Kalispirit, what a beautiful reply. I love Dan Fogelberg and have plans to make more vids with his songs. Thanks so much for your lovely comments.

  • My pleasure....as I said, I enjoyed the video. Glad to hear you have plans for more Fogelberg songs, and I see you've already been busy. I just listened/watched your "Wysteria" video. Nice job....but such a sad one.

  • Yeah, right, sad. So, Kalispirit, any idea why she can't be touched? What is the "sad part", and why? Do you get it? I don't; though I love the mood Dan creates.

  • beautiful choice and beautiful video.

  • Enjoyed this. You've married the visuals with the music beautifully. Though I appreciate the art of dance, I was drawn here by your choice in song, which was perfect. Always makes me smile when I find another who appreciates the music of Dan Fogelberg.

As for being discouraged as a child....it's a sad reality. Such a shame that every child is not encouraged to pursue their interests. But for what it's worth, despite their relative size, elephants are actually quite graceful.

  • Next year I might be able to get point shoes!!!

    But great video

  • Do you do ballet? I wanted to when I was a kid, despite the fact I was a bit of a tomboy...but I got told that I thumped like a baby elephant and so was not allowed to learn. I think it is a beautiful form of dance.

  • Well I go on and off I take 4 classes jazz tap hip-hop and (right now lyrical. But I did ballet from when I was 5-9 then 2 years of lyrical instead of ballet last year ballet, this year lyrical but the ballet teacher said to me this year that I could be in pointe shoes next year.
