What was he reaching for on that side of his bike near his bottom bracket? Doesn't make sense - he should have been working on the other side of his bike if it was chain or shifter related.
Your in a title position, youve busted your ass over months to get to that position, you get on some equipment and its not setup correctly, fails and costs you the race. Yea, I would say that reaction was justified. £10K bike worth nada in this instance.
I understand how aggravating that is, but the smart thing to do would have been to keep pedaling or coasting at least, until his team car caught up. Where the hell was it anyway?
(I had to look it up. Apparently, Wiggins was about to be overtaken by Gustav Larson so his support car was forced to remain behind the other rider. With such a significant delay, Brad knew he'd lost any hope of a good result here.)
stupidity, obviously drive train issues, if the machinary does nt work, you can nt go forward, and on the arrogance issue, you obviously do nt understand the word, British...
He had dropped his chain earlier and it hit his brake caliper, causing his brakes to drag. On these aero bikes the brakes are hidden behind the bottom bracket. He was angry because he thought his team car was behind him for a quick bike change, but it has been held up by the race judges.
Where was the team car with the back up bike? I don't understand that. You get given the back up bike and finish the course. Witness Tony Martin at the 2010 time trial World Champs who had to get off his bike and change a wheel and still bagged third place!
I would love to see anyone deal with this situation better than he did if you hadn't just spent 6 months of your life training 6 hours a day for that moment only to have a stupid mechanical failure ruin it all. He's angry because the bike is failing and when you're a pro-cyclist you expect the mechanics to check the bike over before you get on it. Wiggins is a really nice guy, far from arrogant. I mean the guys won olympic medals, held multiple WR's yet still does a thankless job for team Sky.
I agree that he would be pissed but to throw his bike down like that is just plain childish. Sometimes shit just happens and you have to deal with it.
@TheClubland2010 ya, and sometimes your bike pisses you off because its causing you to lose a chance at the gold medal. deal with it = tossing it aside. Tossing it aside isn't childish. childish would be to stomp on it or to rip it apart with his teeth. and then to cry about it and stomp around. get a grip, bikes don't have feelings.
@Triple777ER the old stuff didn't break can be due to lots of factors, the speed of which modern bikes now travel are faster, the materials are lighter, thinner. In theory they are stronger, but it only takes a tiny crack for any material to begin to fail under the pressure. so...
I remember watching this at work. How unfortunate. I know Team Sky are using the Di2 on the Pinerellos. I wonder if he trusts them after what happened in here?
The chain dropped and although he got it back on pretty quickly, it damaged the brakes to the point that even after using the quick release they were still rubbing.
He was hardly showing an arrogant attitude! Use a better selection of words. Being pissed off is completely different to being arrogant (he didn't belittle anyone, didn't swagger, didn't mouth off).
Also, that was a pretty calm response to be honest, considering he elected to be dropped from the road team to focus on the timetrial and then his bike failing is the reason why weeks of build up go to waste and he misses out on a medal. Most would dothesame. Stop being such a goody goody, churchy.
@mattfaulkner Bradley never had a good day in Mendriso...he lost a lot to Cancellara very early in the race and he didn't ride the way he did in the Tour de France at all. I think he is pissed of for other reasons then just the bike.
@Teghead Not sure what you mean by can't eat medals, but you are right about wanting to win the gold as an absurd target, especially with Fabian the God in the race.
He is not a 'tool', I think i/you would be at least a little bit pissed off if that happened to you, in fact I'm suprised he didn't thump someone. Stop being a nerd.
Yeah, lol that was a bit of a troll comment. However, throwing a bike on the ground that costs more than most people make in 3 months is not really going to fix anything.
I went golfing with some friends a while back, and my one friend got so pissed that he took the rented club and smoked a tree until the club head broke off... he just stick it into a rotten log... This sorta reminded me of that...
wiggo going pretty good then his bike fails at this level u just want to take it out on something !! id have that bike in a feild it doesnt make any difference he didnt buy it and its not going to make a change in the your bikes !!
was your friend by chance in a golfing world championship which hed been preparing for for months and months and then something that he couldnt change messed it all up for him...?
tbf if that happened to anyone else in the peloton who was in for a medal they probably would have reacted far worse
