  • John watched a lot of TV. He liked Sesame Street. So he said Cookie as an homage to The Cookie Monster. Sorry guys, sometimes the truth is straight forward :D

  • @notpeterhansen really? :D

  • So John says "Cookie!" in this song and then Ringo says "...cookie! in "Early 1970". This must've been some sort of inside joke. Maybe the joke was getting their fans to ponder a non-existent mystery. They were geniuses.

  • COOKIE. the wise words of John Lennon.

  • Vox amps with them heating up bulbs - pure class sound reverbing - ing -ing

  • Why do people hate Yoko so much...she seems like an Ok person.

  • COOKIE!

  • was the cookie monster thing on the original cut? Someone educated about it please respond, no opinions please, just fact.

  • @monsterhockey7 He threw the "Cookie" part in there for his son Sean, to imitate the cookie monster from sesame street.

  • @Dime067 He foresaw Sean being born four years before? I think you mean Julian, pal.

  • @masterjoey1029 sorry man im only human, but thank you for correcting me

  • i fucking love that cookie part. i was just really depressed and it just made me laugh my ass off.

  • All of these ideas he had, and 30 years after his death they all went out of the window, what do we have to hold on to now?

  • 3 people don't like it when people randomly say cookie

  • Fuck Yoko

  • @Israeli3030 Fuck you.

  • @RantingThespian i didnt break up the beatles...

  • @Israeli3030 I know, John, Paul, George, and Ringo broke up the Beatles. Hell, Ringo quit before the White album because he felt they were all buddies and he was the odd one out (but was convinced to come back), then George left during Let It Be because he was getting tired of being pushed around by Paul (and would only come back if they changed from Paul's "Get Back" rehearsal to a real album).

They were cracking long before John got with Yoko. Hell, John said it started when Brian died.

  • Cookie!!!!!

  • cookie 1:09 wtf

  • Whats John correcting with the Cookie part?

  • everytime i hear the 'hold on yoko' part it breaks my heart. I don't know, it's just like he's singing it to yoko after he died, telling her to be strong.

  • damn you can feel the love in the song

  • COOOOKIE

  • One of the very few Beatles-related songs I like, and I like it a LOT.

    COOOKIE

  • I don't understand the COOKIE part, someone please explain?

  • Comment removed

  • @filemen2 I mean why does he say it

  • @TheMrFinneth Oh, I thought you were asking about the comments about it. Sorry. Disregard.

  • @filemen2 Haha that's okay. But do you know why he says it? Or is john just being himself :P

  • @TheMrFinneth I think at this time in johns life, he was spending a lot of time at home with his kid. There were re runs of that show with the cookie monster. It was just in his head. I read that somewhere...

  • @h812 That makes sense, cause if you listen to 'I'm stepping out' he says he's been watching too much sesame street. That's really cool since sesame street was my favorite show growing up, and I'm only 14

  • Blu

  • great song

  • his songs start to become a bit narcassistic in his solo work...

  • @skinnydipper16 you could say that about any song writer... unless they are writing about nothingness... death, then you'd say that was narcissistic as well. Lennon had a fucked up life and many do, so he finally focussed on his personal life with Yoko and tried to have some fun and also address causes they felt compelling... the rest is history. Had he lived he might have gotten bored with his home life and ventured out into music and mere entertainment and fun as he had in his youth.

  • @flarbton if on the other hand you might refer to songs like Cold Turkey, then yes that was a severe case of Lennon being narcissistic and quite absurd with regards to subject matter. How many of his fans or people in general could possibly relate to he and Yoko going cold turkey from heroin or whatever variety of drugs they were addicted too? not many, so that was totally delusional for him to even hope that that would be a hit lol.

  • Man I love this song, but who else thinks that Cookie part is just a little creepy?

  • @Hemingway271 Birth of cookie monster. You heard it first.

  • cookie hahah D:

  • Does the start of this before he sings sound at all like Don't Let Me Down to anyone else?

  • @Marshallsg Hell yeah! Probably evolved into this.

    COOKIE!

  • @psychill22 Lol. Probably.

  • @Marshallsg i think this song is about masturbation lol

  • @Marshallsg

Good ears. The reason they sound the same is because they share chords and the riff is played on the same strings, followed by a Fm7th chord, in both songs. When you play "Don't Let Me Down" on guitar nd then play "Hold On" you laugh because you realize John was ripping off himself. They are played using the same fingerings, same strings, same chords. Same guitar, too. "Hold On" is a musical brother to "Don't Let Me Down."

  • @PrincePurple He ripped himself off ALOT. Almost embarrassingly so.

  • @Marshallsg For sure. I hear it a lot in John's music, like the similarity between "Look At Me" and "Julia".

  • COOKIE!!!

  • The music at the start reminds me of "Sun King."

  • This is such an amazing song! I can't stop listening to it! COOKIE!!

  • This song relates to me so much, I would listen to it when I'm having troubles with things,

  • Why does he randomly say "Cookie"?? That's so random. What purpose does it have?

  • @FilmStudentWannabe he actually says 'cook it' its a reference to cooking up herion which john was taking quite regularly at the time.

  • @michaelvkelly1 no junk no soul.

  • @michaelvkelly1 That is definitely cookie. I'm sorry but it sounds clear as hell he is saying cookie.

  • @FilmStudentWannabe its funny

  • love this so much god man makes me wish i could be buddies with lennon bt i think we all are if we truely connect with his words

  • To the day... #1

  • pahaha the cookie part scared the bejeezus out of me! lol wtf was that all about?xD i love john

  • Is that slow motion, Don't Let Down? Just has a familiar ring to it.

  • I love him so much

  • Thank you John

  • Mmm... cookie....

  • COOKIE.

  • @VioletHydeee i always wondered why that sample was in the song. I think it doesnt add to the idea...?

  • mmmmmmmmmmm..... god.....

  • I listen to this when I'm feeling depressed. It helps

  • @ghostie543

The shot of John at :56 seems so lonely. I can still remember when the Beatles launched their solo careers and how we all so wanted them to get back together and this photo just brought it home that John wasn't with the Beatles anymore. So sad.

  • Ya, when I think about the great friendship him and Paul shared it kills me when I see something about them fighting/ not being friends anymore. You're right, it's very sad

  • I honestly think that John did a lot better without the others, music wise.

  • Don't go crazy.

  • how am i going crazy??

  • John did incredible work with the Beatles - especially due to the musical genius of Paul. His solo work is beautiful, but I often wonder how different (much better?) it would be with Paul's touch.

  • @ghostie543, it sure does help. Enormously comforting song. Elisa
