  • How the hell can he sing like this at his age? Sounds like he's 30 years old. Just amazing.

  • FANTASTIC!!

But's what's with the backup singers from the Enterprise D. :)

  • I just took a trip down memory lane. Thank goods Jay can still sing like he did long ago. Thanks Jay. I love you as much as always. I will never be old as long as I can your voice.

  • An iconic singer in American history that is often overlooked!

  • age is only a number and Jay still has it , all of it the Voice the personality , this songs takes real heart and talent .Its a gift and that other fellow when I hear him on my radio I turn him off ! You can't copy what Jay has you either have or ya don't ! Jay will always be The Voice that will remain where this song is concerned !

  • While most singers from the 50'sand 60's have changed...this guy sound exactly like he did when he started!

  • JAY There is a DJ friend of mine coming to catch your show this weekend He has a radio station in Florida called topshelfoldies,He plays all your songs ! I love ya Jay keepng them songs coming I will be here always as ever listening .

  • still got it.... wow

  • Holy mayonnaise, dude can belt it out just as good as he did back in the day!

  • I love watching this one he has a wonderful smile He doesn't even sound like some one in their 70s he is and always will be JAY BLACK ! Jay you are timeless I love ya

  • The group out there now calling themselves "Jay and the Americans" just flat sucks. They only own the name. Thank you Jay Black for continuing to share with us.

  • @aetmwtlwstg I second that .

  • He's still got it..baby

  • Jay, Thank you for still singing.

  • WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The man is great! In his 70's and still can hit those high notes like he did when he was a kid. He's just great!

  • Jay Black a sensational aging who incredibly sounds better and better, and sets a standard seemingly no others can follow nor match. Perhaps Jay doing CaraMia is the eighth wonder of the world.

  • WOW!

  • Amazing that he can still hit those notes.

  • @JazzBill and hold them!

  • All right, folks, I have a question:

Has there EVER been any singer who has OWNED a song the way that Jay Black OWNS this song?

    I think not.

  • @57highland NO ONE CAN TOUCH OUR JAY BLACK , HE OWNS THIS SONG !

  • @Toughgranma Yes, he certainly does. I never get tired of listening to this song or any other song Jay sings. He does pretty darn good considering his age. Love you, Jay.

  • Diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee!

  • charlie sheen among the 4 back up singers?

  • I cant believe he can still sing and sound just like he did the first time he sang this song

  • UNBELIEVABLE!!

  • I am sooooo addicted... Unbelievable...

  • He is on PBS most of the time when they have the pledge drives to keep public TV going . It is a repeat performance most of the time . He always does Cara Mia which is the song best to show his powerful voice can still do it !

  • dude, fuckin classik.

  • Yup...still got it

  • I love them all

  • You want a singer? Jay Black Roy Orbison. K.D. Lang. Gary Puckett. Those are singers. Jay just killed me with this song. What a voice!!!!!!!!!1

  • This guy is awesome, I just love him to death!

  • Thumbs up if this gives you chills!

  • Thank you Jay Black and thank you Gil Allard. I enjoyed this song.

  • @ohearn22 I know right this is true music and talent

  • WOW! This is just AMAZING!! After all these years, still an incredible voice and a fabulous song. I am in tears! ; )

  • Amazing, he still has a great voice

  • Wow !!!! Jay you still have a great voice !!!!

  • He is coming to Pittsburgh, PA.

  • I've always wanted to throw in a "cha cha cha" at the end of this song... dvt

  • had the pleasure of meeting this great man behind the voice...!!! i just know he is still the "younger" jay(inside"), very young @heart, and of course, still going strong!!

  • lucky guy

  • Some network needs to do a feature on Jay capped by this performance. They made such a big deal about Tony Bennett a few years ago, but Jay can pretty much out sing anybody... It's soooo good it doesn't seem real, but it is, and Jay Black can still bring it. Phenomenal...

  • @mistervanrsp ..I sooooo agree with you....I have a couple friends on YouTube that are old friends of Jay's, and I have been lobbying for Jay himself, or a network exec, to do a movie or TV feature or something on Jay, starting with the early days...and capped by THIS performance.....he's had such an interesting life and I know a " special " on his life would be well recieved by his huge fan base...Dawn

  • @DFbighair Hi Dawn, I'm with you! How do we get this to happen? Oh! Have you seen the picture of him as a little boy? Adorable! Anyway, how do we proceed on this. You know, I don't know why he didn't make more movies. One little ol' movie and a teeny part in the Billy Crystal movie. He was very natural--he'd have been a wonderful actor.

  • @salliannable Picture of him as a little boy??!! Where IS that..I haven't seen that...and I MUST!! I thought I'd seen everything and read everything....I'm just obsessed with this man....

  • @DFbighair Think I shot off my mouth before making sure it was Jay.I took it to be him because I clicked on it and was taken to a page that had school pics and his name was under it.Google Jay Black and click on "Images" on left side of page. You'll see the pic of a little boy with a lite blue shirt.Check it out and see what you make of it.Bet it's not him.It looked like the kid had a little mark over his left eyebrow like Jay in some of his pics.My email: libertybiddy@hotmail.com Hope it's J.

  • @salliannable I looked at that series of photos...it's not Jay as a little boy...it's too recent looking and the hair style is too current. However, I did see a BUNCH of photos of Jay that I've never seen, which was very cool.....

  • Dawn,500 characters not enough yak space.Sorry I got your hopes up..and mine.In case you don't know, you can enter Jay Black on Google,& when it comes up click on "Images" on left side. Will get a lot of pics, but a lot of those will be other jay blacks too.-some of it is nasty crap. Not of OUR Jay.Then click on an image and you might find out a little something else about him.Not much tho-hard as hell to find much on him.Made a folder with info and one with songs.(Continued in another window)

  • DAWN, Here! The info folder I only put links in till I get all I can. Then I'm going back and organize & print them-then taking notes to try to find more searches. Try other search engines also & do same thing. So far,Goog is better but did get one pic from another one I hadn't seen, but not much info.Type in his name with any other person or place you've read and you will usually get SOMething-sometimes repeated stuff.OH! Another folder w/pics.Save pics from videos then take pics of pics w camera

  • Jay Black and The Drew Carey Quartet.....sorry, great video, but couldn't resist the comparisons of the back up singers that resemble the cast of the Drew Carey Show......they sounded great!!

  • @slim2924 Hi Slim. Those guys are the Alley Cats. They sing acapella. They're great.Check 'em out. They sing the kind of back up Jay deserves. Wish Jay and they would join forces. Couldn't beat that!

  • WOW , still can do it today as good as in the early years ! One of the best voices I have ever heard , if not the best . I loved it when it was new and still do ! Up with the volume when it comes on ! Sends chills up the old spine . If i had a voice like that you couldn't shut me up ! What a gift from God . Every time he is on PBS I tune in .

  • @pontiman68 Great, ain't he? How do you find out when he's on TBS?

  • Comment removed

  • @salliannable He is on there when they are trying to get money for the station as its a public station and they sell the cd's for membership.

  • Amazing how his voice hasn't changed. Unmistakabe. Great.

  • Beautiful upload with very high quality - thanks. ... BUT PROVENANCE, PEOPLE. Tell us Who, What, Where, When ??? In this case, it is: Jay Black, PBS concert taped in Pittsburgh, PA, 2010.

  • I know that alot of you folks that comment on Jay's videos also manage to get to some of his concerts. I wish you would tape something and put it on YouTube. I live too far away and can't attend a concert, so I so enjoy when a new video shows up on here....and we need something new! Thanks....Dawn

  • @DFbighair Aw, I was going to ask you to do that! I know you are as big a fan as I, and you are so up on news about Jay (you even know his speaking voice vs his singing voice, I read). So I assumed you attended his concerts often. I know he'll never come to Texas before I die, and I'm waaay too old for the people who grant children's wishes, but I keep hoping for a miracle.

  • @Agrace39 Hey...just touching base....more later. I see you've found the other Grace ( Hummingbird ). Glad to have another " Jayette " with us. We are alittle fanatical about Jay...I'm probably worse than Grace..lol. We reach out to whoever will tell us anything about Jay........~Dawn

  • When you hear Jay Blacks' s voice today compared to his early years, you just have to beleive in a higher power. Sounds better today than ever. While most voices dissipate with years, Jay's did not.

  • When ever I hear Jay & The Americans CARA MIA I always say WOW!!! Last night I played it for my 10 year old grandoughter, she smiled and said WOW!!! Even today a 10 year old knows good-no make that- GREAT music when they hear it. Thank you Jay for all the great music, keep it up.

  • I had the pleasure of Jay and the Americans way back in the 1960's. Jay still sounds today as he did then.

  • I grew up during the time that this music was new back in the 60s and can truly say Jay's voice is one of the ALL-TIME great voices of ALL time. I just finished watching a video of him singing this great song back in the 60s and his voice sounds as good in this video as it does in that one. God bless you Jay for bringing us music lovers so much joy and congratulations on a great career.

  • Saw Jay on pbs special and that started me looking on this site for the song. Must say Jay's voice is like fine way it may have aged but it got richer and stronger. I compared it to he original. He sure has still got and more. Loved in the 60's & love the one I saw just as much recently.

  • Wow, he's one sexy man with a fantastic voice! His voice just got better and better with time. I love the passion in his words.

  • Jay, you have the best voice of all time. forgive me Elvis, Tony, Frank. Jay wins.

  • Amazing! Love this. Still got it, Jay!

  • Not to long ago i was in my car out side of a store in Syosset on Jericho turnpike ,Playing jay and the americans greatest hits on my cd player in my lincoln town car , out of the store walked Jay! with lotto tickets in his hand and said"you have great taste in muisc my friend"I knew who he was ,and said to him thanks Jay.It was truley a thrill he was just a regular kinda guy.Glad i spent all my grass cutting money as a kid buying his records!

  • @Northshoreman1 What a story you are lucky am glad for you should be proud...have a nice day...

  • @Northshoreman1 ..how cool!! I would give anything just to see him and say hi to him..

  • @Northshoreman1 I lived in a small town a lot if years ago, (not far from Woodstock N.Y.) and as a young man Jay would be in the area. He was on his way to stardom but it didn't seem to affect him. He was just a nice young guy with a ton of talent. Years later I was in the area near a place called Friar Tuck also in upstate N.Y. Jay was playing there for one night so I went to see him. WHAT-A-SHOW!! I think he got better with the years. Great entertainer!! God bless & keep singing.

  • @Northshoreman1 I would of been all over the place like a silly teenager I was how cool for you and you had his music on ....

  • give me goosebumps the first time i saw it onpbs remarkable

  • Jay is 73 years old today...11/2/11 !!!

Still an awesome singer...I just love this man!

    Happy Birthday Jay !! ......Dawn

  • Age 7 on 11/2/11 - still awesome...

  • Happy 73rd Jay,you still sound great!!!Many many more my friend!

  • What an unbelievable voice he still has!!! He has always sounded operatic. Even in the old days, his voice was smoother and richer than the young "Jay" that is now singing with the original "Americans". Jay Black has a voice comparable to Roy Orbison, or kd Lang, which makes it one in a million. Elvis commented in the late 1960's that Roy had the greatest voice of them all, including himself! Tony Bennett still has it at 85. Mathis, Humperdinck, Tom Jones, Barry Gibb and Streisand do too

  • SOB STILL HAS IT!

  • what a voice then and now

  • I found this video about 2 wks ago and have listened to it at least 10 times a day since. I'm just in awe of his voice! Thanks for posting this video - you made my year.

  • @carolinasbeauty ...yes, he IS addicting. You will find comments from me all over these videos of Jay.....I've watched every single one a million times. We're watching a living legend.....he's really just awesome...

    ~Dawn

  • The best of the Best!

  • Awesome Song and voice.

  • At 2:06, the guy in pink misses his cue to put his hand over his heart.

  • I also saw Jay at Westbury 10/15/11. He was tremendous, not much more to be said. Best we have seen him in a long time. He hit all the high notes, plays the crowd, terrific show, even with the language. Without Johnny Maestro's show, Jay becomes a must see.

  • @lngislgolfer ...I keep asking everybody that just went to Jay's show on October 15th at Westbury....did you or anybody take any video of this?? I really need to see something new of Jay.....

  • They just don't make classic music like this anymore. Jay is one of a kind and his voice is still ageless and strong as ever....a true true star!

  • Just saw Jay at Westbury on Oct 15,2011 He was amazing. What a voice. Still funny as hell and a real American.

  • @jtm0071 ....did you happen to take any video of this? What songs did he sing?

  • I assumed he was with "The Americans." MY mistake. Anyway, the man was recovering from a cold and he still hit all the notes!

  • Jay Black. She said he was wonderful.

  • @doug5759 ..did she take any video? I need to see something new on YouTube about Jay.....Dawn

  • Shiver me timbers :-D

  • WOW! I grew up listening to Jay. His voice was always amazing, even when he was young, but now.....incredible!

  • My wife is at a Jay and the Americans and Gary Puckett concert right this second in Red Bank NJ. God Bless Jay and all the guys. Break a Leg.

  • Comment removed

  • @doug5759 ...do you mean JAY BLACK..or the new Jay and the Americans with Jay Reinke?

  • Excuse my language....But UN FUCKING BELIEVABLE! I'm a singer....in my early 40's and I could only hope to be 1/8's this mans vocal ability. Jay Black is a legend....and still going strong into his mid 70's. God Bless you Jay!

  • @NickCobra I agree 100% He was and always will be "the voice"!

  • Magnificent voice!

  • I watch this all the time! Age didn't affect his voice that's for sure!

  • unbeleivable voice still got it more than a lot of others trying to come back ,

all i can say is he sound just like he did on shjn dig

  • Whoa.... I just got chills. How can he still sing like that.

He has an amazing voice, and helped me get through my teen years and a broken heart (or two).

  • Absolutely Amazing ! I have never seen a voice last as long as Jays with little or No deterioration ! Everyone should hear him sing to believe how well his voice has stood the test of time!

  • OK Kiddies, Zack Brown. Rucker, and Taylor. This is what s called talent. The long time staying kind. I had to really think of Taylor's name. That s how important she is in music. Yes, today;s kiddies drink the sand. They are that thirsty for real talent. I am aware that my remarks are reported to the tube. LOL Censorship at it s lowest. Don t want opinions ? Don t post Simple as that.

  • BRAVO!!! WTG Jay! Brilliant.

  • Just simply.... WOW.......fantastic!

  • He is breath-taking . . Simply the best . Thanks for posting.

  • AMAZING VOICE!!!!!!!!!!

  • As with most everyone, Father time has caught up to Jay...BUT, that voice still rocks!!! And really he looks damn good for his age. Go Jay go!

  • Love love love LOVE that vibrato! Go for it Jay!

  • Ahhh, what a voice. Brings back memories.....

  • What a fantastic voice!!!!!!!!

  • just amazing....

  • Bernadette and richard , realy love this version

  • And was he checking his watch? LOL!

"Cara mia whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy~" I love that.!

  • O-M-G...that's awesome!

  • Jay's masterpiece!

  • I don't know how many different octaves Jay hit in this song, but he must have the widest range in history. The richness in his voice is even better than Sinatra's. Great voice! Great video! Thanks.

  • The Jay & The Americans rendition of this song gave me chills the first time I heard it. It amazes me, 40+ years later, that Jay Black's voice is still as strong as it ever was, and it still gives me chills to hear him rip into this song!

  • You the man Jay!

  • lots of living in that face.....................

  • Does anyone know what kind of musical training Jay Black had? I've always been curious. Has he continued to work with a teacher all these years? His voice sounds richer at 72 than it did when he was 27.

  • @rodgerdodgerlodger ..I know of somebody that can answer that...I'll ask him and then post it..

  • @rodgerdodgerlodger ...I said I would find out and post it, so here it is...Jay had no formal vocal training at all. I correspond with 2 guys on here that are friends of Jay's from " the beginning " just as the guys were starting out in the music business. In Jay's own words..." I just woke up one day and I could sing like that...I don't warm up..I just get in the car, drive to the show, go inside and sing. ". He's just a natural gifted singer....

    ~Dawn

  • Absolute perfection.

  • these back-up singers have no clue who they are performing with.

  • Getting my daily dose of Jay..I just sit here with a stupid grin on my face, and marvel at THE VOICE that comes out of this almost 73 year old man.....Dawn

  • HOLLY CRAP!!! This man is 70..And he sounds like he did 45 years ago!!! No man this age can sent chills down my spine such as he!!! How many rappers will sound even 1/8 as good at 70???? hmmmm,

  • OH MY GOD. Yeah, I've still got a crush on him, I don't give a damn what he looks like!

  • WOW AWESONE

  • still got THE VOICE... sing on Jay!!

  • HIM AND ROY ORBISON WOOOOOOOOOOW

  • amazing he can hit every note better than ever

  • WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I loved listening to his voice throughout the decades. It's so great that he has been fortunate enough to maintain his voice. What a gift he was given.

  • Is this guy i the RRHOF? Because he is one of the all-time greats!

  • I saw a re-broadcast of this particular show, on PBS TV last night( the original was March of this year I think. ) In watching it I realized that there were a couple interviews with Jay during this show..and it appears that he also sang This Magic Moment and Come a Little Bit Closer...they only showed short clips of those. Does anyone know if there was more and I maybe just missed something? Would love to see the rest of what he did on that show...

  • Incredible! Jay is a talent ...period. I heard the Americans have a new lead singer, good luck with that! Jay makes todays singers look like amateurs..

  • just amazing. you still hit those high notes like in the 60's. i love your sound, see you in october at count basie.

  • I wish we had a holodeck like the Starship enterprise and we could go in and program it to have say Jay Black performing right there for you! Wow. Come on You Tube...get working on that!!!

  • Did you see the back ground singers standing there like: any day now..

He has a wonderful voice and sounds great if not better then how it did when he was younger..

  • what note is he hitting?

  • He's not as good as he was 45 years ago. He's better! Phenomenal. They should have him at the Super Bowl or something..

  • Jay still has it and more! Will be in Cumberland MD in OCT, can't wait to see him...he still rocks...

  • ....gotta watch this every day..at least once..

First I watch the one from Shindig 1965, when he was 27...then I watch this one from this year, when he is 72...truly amazing..still got it after 45 years. The VOICE still soars..Dawn

  • @DFbighair truly amazing like you said...

  • @DFbighair Hey, Dawn - you know it's very hard to decide which of the vid's I like most...wait a minute, no it isn't. I LOVE his performance on Shindig, but knowing he still has the chops to do it at 72?? I roll out of bed slip the headphones on and listen to this one over and over until I'm ready to face the day.

Kudos, Jay, you're a legend in your time and probably will be for another 50-75 years!

  • Wow!!!!! Amazing!!!!!!

  • As good as it gets, and in his 70's makes it even better!

  • Jay ~ YOU ROCK! I love this song! Many BLESSINGS to you / your group for bringing us some of the greatest music over the years.

  • Only Jay does this song BEST!!!!!

  • What pipes!!!!!

  • @jkeating912 ..and I am sooo grateful that he's still around to share his beautiful voice with us.It will be a sad day when he's not around anymore. These people that keep commenting on his age and that he should " give it up " make me sick. We all get old..it's the natural order of things. This man sings better at 72 than most of the idiots on the radio these days, that must be " autotuned " so much that when they sing LIVE it sounds nothing like the record..this man is still the VOICE..

  • WOW SIMPLY AWESOME. GREAT

  • Great!

  • My god. he has lost nothing of his amazing voice over the past 50 years.

  • Love you Jay! Always Have...Your music and vocals are timeless. I close my eyes and there You are...forever Handsome and Oh so Talented....God Bless You! Kisses.
