Bozzio (and in another video) Ray Luzier are overwhelmingly better than Yael. They make her seem pedestrian by compare....even if it is a jam and not a contest.
Time to learn how to play drums properly Yael, her drumming here clearly needs lots and lots of work. Sure you can see her beat the crap out of her drums but I sure as hell am yet to find any musicality in her playing. Maybe thats why Terry chooses to play a very simple backing beat here for her and might I say that I much prefer Bozzios playing here!
@DaNDaNdoRJ The larger kit allows for melodies you can't get from a five piece kit. Why would one play with 5 notes when one can play with 24? He has a two octave range within his toms that allows for chords, and writing in many compositional forms such as Sonatas and Rondos etc. etc...he has no musical limits. Through history the drum set has also been called a "trap kit", but with a kit of Terry's nature, he doesn't play with a feeling of being trapped or limited.
@DrumDestroyer100 If you have extensively listened to his solo works then you would understand that all those parts play in an integral role in the creation of the most musical drum solos from any modern drummer...he tunes the toms diatonic and chromatic if I remember correctly...in turn this opens up lots of melodic freedom that you can't get from a standard drum kit.
@DaNDaNdoRJ Telling a musician like Terry that his set is too big is like asking a pianist why they would ever need 88 keys. (I've never seen them all used.) Once a drummer establishes and maintains the rhythm, he can add something creative and complimentary. It is not about playing all the percussive choices at once. It is having the right tools available at the right time to encourage creativity. If the drummer has no understanding of that concept, then stay on the preverbal drum porch.
Terry is so secure in his playing that he let's her take it where she wants it to go. He doesn't have to impress anyone. That's the sign of a true professional, and an amazing drummer. Unlike some people Terry doesn't need to be the center of attention. He's a confident confident drummer. He could have destoyed this girl in a back and forth, but what would have been the point. He's a true professional, and good guy.

"Yael" was his first guest and he's been a drum hero of hers n' pretty much everyone elses' for decades. this is all improv... and what is on the dvd is very different... it is actually worked out but still improvised
check the drumaddict324 channel instead of these clips that were fun but mistaken by many to be "drum battles" or "you against me" type stuff. everyone is entitled to an opinion. happy holidays. :)
@patrickforpresident yeah you're absolutely right, however she tries to immitate him, and of course she can't, but she says in some vid i saw that terry was her idol, her role model, or something like that, so he must have been nervous and that's why she messes up with tempos and fills are just wrong
she should have let Terry go off for a few measures and trade off back and forth. That must have been aggravating for him to try to keep time with. I'm also surprised Terry doesn't ever switch up rhythms and tempo to make the jam work as best as it could. not saying I could do any better lol
