Even though Paddy O' Prado ran a very respectable 5th in the Breeders Cup Classic. I think Dale Romans really missed the boat not putting this colt into the Breeders Cup Turf. Dangerous Midge was a handicap level colt in Great Britain. That had just found some form winning the G3 Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial at Newbury. I knew the ground wouldn't suite Behkabad, nor would it have suited Workforce either. Not enough cut in the CD turf course. Paddy O' Prado could've taken that race, IMO.
Anxious to see how well Paddy O' Prado fares in his next race against older turf horses? He's had an outstanding season on all three surfaces. But most especially on the turf. He would definitely get my vote for best turf horse in America at present. As I think he's had a much better season thus far than Gio Ponti has, top to bottom. Paddy O' Prado may actually be a better shot at keeping the Breeders Cup Turf trophy in America than Gio Ponti is. IMO.
@gunloc26, Much agreed. Top to bottom, this has been one of the weakest crop's of American 3yr.old colt's that I've seen in eons. But at this stage of the season, the contenders and the pretenders have pretty much sorted themselves out. Lookin At Lucky is the best 3yr.old colt on conventional dirt. But can win on synthetics. Paddy O' Prado can win on all 3 surfaces. But seems to be thriving on turf right now. Sidney's Candy is great on synthetics, and seemed to really like the turf as well. JMO.
Paddy O' Prado has reeled off the Colonial Turf Cup, the Virginia Derby, and the Secretariat Stakes on turf. He's also very multidimensional on surfaces. Only one out of money finish in eight races, on three surfaces. Pretty impressive. He was also 2nd to Interactif on turf in the 09' With Anticipation Stakes. Won the 09' Palm Beach Stakes on turf. Was 2nd in the Bluegrass Stakes on poly-track. 3rd on dirt in the Kentucky Derby. His one out of money finish was a 6th on dirt in the Preakness.
@GBeret83 Great job by Paddy. Like you said GBeret, very multidimensional on surfaces, and very consistent. You don't see that much in horses these days.
