I went to trade school, got out and made $19/hr...then I went to college.
Now I work 2nd shift makin $9.50/hr and never seeing the light of day, I get home after midnight so the internet is my only friend most of the time. At least I can live on the weekends, where my friend and girlfriend wait for me.
Guitar riffs and chord voicing were so much cooler in the 70's then they are now. Most of the shit I hear these days on the radio is nothing but low power chords and nothing else really. No dynamics at all in the guitar playing. It's a shame.
I was definitely born in the wrong era. I'm fourteen, and I listen to "Classic" Rock. honestly? This is what real rock is! And whatever music the other kids my age are listening to (if you can call it music) is just autotuned shit.

This song brings back memories of high school, loading trucks, long nights impossible odds. Our crew would hand load 30 step vans, 4 semis every night, sometimes 6 semis. I do not miss the work for one minute although we did have lots of fun, telling stupid jokes, making plans for weekend beer parties, talking about how we would fix up our cars. Good times, good times.
@theredocktober When you're 18, there IS no limit, to anything. No such thing as pain or heartbreak or bein' poor. We were Achilles, all of us Guys. "Death before Dishonor". Keep the Faith, Brother, we will meet again!!
This song tells the story of a man who is sick of being mocked for being jobless. He tries to get a job and when he is denied, he tries to persuade people into hiring him.

This song fits Obama's America. Blue collar hit much harder than white in this recession. White collar bankers got all that TARP money - A reward for screwing all of us with their toxic loans packaged and sold to fund managers across the land with a wink and a nod.
It is indeed baffling. They are still a great band live (saw them last year). For some reason, it wasn't cool to like Styx (the '70's show even did an episode about that).
@rennieallen Because for every song like "Blue Collar Man" there are 2 like "Lady." I love Styx (especially this song), but let's not fool ourselves into thinking they rocked this hard on all of their songs.
I remember when this song came out. Every time I hear it, I think of my old man, carrying his lunchbox, getting in his car and heading off for another long night in the factory. Now, that's me, greasing the wheels of industry. I am my fathers son, I am a BLUE COLLAR MAN! And damn proud of it!
looks like 16 people are justin beiber fans go put ur dislikes some where else like rebecca black. yea that u should do u fuckin people dont appreciate good music from the 70s and 80s nowdays u can have a band off a key board what has this world come too.

Lol, you made my day!
@kurisux You're right on both counts. Only now it's up to 13. How can anyone not like this song? Come on now, this is Styx!! And this song is awesome and definately hits home for me.
"an anthem for today"? Don't we wish! Most of the high-paying blue-collar jobs have migrated overseas. We now have too many business majors and unskilled jobs. Long live Styx for singing the praises of the blue-collar man!
It always amazes me when it happens, when it shouldn't. People listen to the music they like, and what does it make them do? Rage in the comments, usually at Justin Beiber(you people have issues, not everything is about Beiber), but sometimes at each other, as here. Music = Rage, clearly.
Ah the memories, I love youtube and all this great old music! Net neutrality better not screw this up! The government screws up everything it touches!
The thing is, if any politician screws up the internet for even a significant fraction of it's users, their career will implode upon itself. It's not even a partisan issue, it's the fact that internet users are an extremely significant force when mobilised.
@thegrungewave BLUE COLLAR! You want anything besides paying the highest tax rate by % of income, Taking home 1 dollar for every twenty thousand the boss man gets. White collar boy is on the fortune 500 list and spends his days on the beach in Aruba, Meanwhile YOU strain to afford boxed macaroni and cheese on minimum wage. When rich boy gets in trouble He don't go to prison with the sodomites, He goes to pansy pay prison like Martha Stewart! BIG rooms w/ Hot tubs and room service and A maseuse!
@bigfootskitty Mr Madoff would respectfully disagree with you. If your on the fortune 500,you don't get there from spending days on the beach. Maybe if you stopped taking bong hits you would make more than minimum wage.If you don't like the 20 K to 1 ratio, you could always DO something about it.That what makes America great. You have opportunity.
@moirajean8 Well disagree then, But you get on the fortune 500 by shafting your workers with PATHETIC, LOW wage! You Know the People with the LEAST are taxed the MOST, Single folks paying for education of kids they don't have. You will never see the C.E.O. getting A "pay-day loan" Just the employees. The chief takes all the meat of the kill and leaves you to chew the hoofs & inard. No fortune 500er ever did it ALL for themselves, where as Joe work has to every day, so 500 man can grow fatter yet
@bigfootskitty I guess by the " facts" you spew, you have a 5th grade education. Get your pencil and paper ready, time to get schooled. The top 5% of wage earners pay 50% of the taxes, the bottom 50% pay nothing. So the folks paying for your bastard children are the wealthy. If you need a pay day loan then your not living within your means.Maybe you should stop huffing butts & swilling alcohol. My guess is that your a "hope & change"-"yes we can" type of guy.Looking for a handout. G

This song hits you the same way that Billy Joel's "Allentown" does.

@1776Rosco
The thing is, if any politician screws up the internet for even a significant fraction of it's users, their career will implode upon itself. It's not even a partisan issue, it's the fact that internet users are an extremely significant force when mobilised.

i wanna be a blue collar man. i need a job, money, a car & all that good stuff. i guess wut i'm saying is i can rel8 2 this song. damn.
thegrungewave 1 year ago
@thegrungewave BLUE COLLAR! You want anything besides paying the highest tax rate by % of income, Taking home 1 dollar for every twenty thousand the boss man gets. White collar boy is on the fortune 500 list and spends his days on the beach in Aruba, Meanwhile YOU strain to afford boxed macaroni and cheese on minimum wage. When rich boy gets in trouble He don't go to prison with the sodomites, He goes to pansy pay prison like Martha Stewart! BIG rooms w/ Hot tubs and room service and A maseuse!

@bigfootskitty is that wut a blue collar man is? ok. so i guess i misinterpreted it. nevermind, i DONT want 2 be a blue collar man.
thegrungewave 1 year ago
@bigfootskitty Mr Madoff would respectfully disagree with you. If your on the fortune 500,you don't get there from spending days on the beach. Maybe if you stopped taking bong hits you would make more than minimum wage.If you don't like the 20 K to 1 ratio, you could always DO something about it.That what makes America great. You have opportunity.
moirajean8 1 year ago
@moirajean8 Well disagree then, But you get on the fortune 500 by shafting your workers with PATHETIC, LOW wage! You Know the People with the LEAST are taxed the MOST, Single folks paying for education of kids they don't have. You will never see the C.E.O. getting A "pay-day loan" Just the employees. The chief takes all the meat of the kill and leaves you to chew the hoofs & inard. No fortune 500er ever did it ALL for themselves, where as Joe work has to every day, so 500 man can grow fatter yet
bigfootskitty 1 year ago
@bigfootskitty I guess by the " facts" you spew, you have a 5th grade education. Get your pencil and paper ready, time to get schooled. The top 5% of wage earners pay 50% of the taxes, the bottom 50% pay nothing. So the folks paying for your bastard children are the wealthy. If you need a pay day loan then your not living within your means.Maybe you should stop huffing butts & swilling alcohol. My guess is that your a "hope & change"-"yes we can" type of guy.Looking for a handout.
