compound marches are very difficult to play in a high grade band setting on the basis of the required complexity of simplicity. Wellington Police Pipers in Australia is a very music and quite simple 12\8, but to be able to present it at a grade 1 major, it has to be flawless. I would have played the jig a bit faster though, not only to make it more musical, but to accentuate the swing and musicality of the opener.

In 2010, 2011 and 2012 the European Pipe Band Championships will be held in Belfast. Over the past few years the location has varied each year. In 2009 the competition was held in Greenock. In 2008 it was in Lisburn. Have a look at the RSPBA website for more information.

Mozart's piano music has been famously described as 'too easy for amateurs and too difficult for professional musicians'. In a similar vein, when you are playing at grade 1 there is no such thing as an easy tune.
