  • before you even know the song is done, he's got both sticks in one hand

  • O_O

  • Dave Weckl!! So much groove and finesse.

And he is such an inspiration and....hé....what's that.........

IS HE SITTING ON A GARBAGE CAN??????

    LOL!!!

  • It's a like a 4-minute string of small rhythmic miracles.

  • Comment removed

  • ernie watts ftw

  • He's good, but his drumming is so polite...so refined...I'd love to see him play Bozzio's set and get out of his jazz element a little bit.

  • 17 BIEBER FANS

  • 17 people hate music.

  • "Mr.Weckl, I got a fever.... and the only presciption is MORE COWBELLLL" .. as per Bruce Dickinson, the greatest producer ever...

  • Wonderful how he feeds and complements the soloist.

The art of drumming on full display.

  • me da clases de bateria inderectamente ajajajaja!!!

  • This guy blows every drummer ive ever heard out of the water and ive heard plenty. Both famous and non

  • what is the song title?

  • why is dave sitting on a bass drum?

  • КЛАСС!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the 17 people who disliked this DONT know what music is.

  • sweet playing as always by weckl

  • Dave's a superb musician. Great concept, feel, pulse, syncopation and groove.

  • Dave Weckl is such an amazing drummer.

He has so much groove and he... Wait a second...

IS HE SITTING ON A FLOOR TOM??

    LOL!! XD

  • @Timlaare lmao, thanks for pointing that out because i think..... he is.

  • @Timlaare Yeah he farts on the e of 1 and the a of 3, it is very subtle and hard to pickup.

  • @Timlaare NO, that is a portable "hip gig". the whole kit fits inside that box what is used as a stool

  • @Timlaare it's not a floor tom it's the thrown of the yamaha a hipgig which is also used as as gigbag/case

  • fantastik

  • Weckl, ABSURDO!!!!

  • Horrible posture (starts @1:11)

  • Even though it has less drums it sounds like having more...

  • I wish Weckl did more playing on a stripped down kit instead of the elaborate fusion kits. Either way, he never fails to amaze, but simpleness of this size of kit AND what he can do with it is epic!

  • Wonderful Jazz!!!

    ¡Maravilloso Jazz!!!

  • this is my favorite performance on his DVD.

  • This band is Awesome!

  • Once chuck norris decided to have a drum duel with DAVE...From that moment he no longer has played the drums....(unfortunately i'll be roundkicked in a few seconds...)

  • what cymbals are these? they dont look like anything ive ever seen...

  • 3:21 is insane

  • Mys gubbar

  • @Challe99 Mys-Calle. Skriver du det på två ställen så vet man allt vem du är! :D

  • I actually hardly enjoy jazz music, but this is pretty good.

  • liked it ! too much ! you'll like too....

  • wow look at these other insanely talented musicians looking like fools, barely able to keep up with with weckl. he is not human.

  • klar, hab heute n einsamkeits anfall

  • sick drum stool.

  • That's a good sounding little drum kit

  • 16 idiots don't like this..wtf!?

  • @mattomatti93 No, they're just Bieber fans.

  • What's all this loud crap about? It's not about playing loud. It's just about music and that's exactly what he plays. As for the size of the kit, who gives a f.

  • He's my Max Roach...rip poppi,Dave this is so fine. Thank U. :-)

  • hes doing suprisingly well without his mullet!

  • ass kicking bro......damm !!!

  • Can someone recommend me some Latin Jazz albums with clear drum recordings like those?

    Thanks guys!

  • Dave is playing well. Too bad the kit isn't that loud. I can barely hear the bass drum or the toms.

  • @Oneness100 In Jazz music the Bass drum is played gently on purpose. You're supposed to "feel" it not "hear" it. The idea is for the kick to support the groove, not necessarily dominate it. In rock music the Bass drum has an unmistakable punch; rock music calls for it. In Be-Bopp Jazz the bass drum has more “bite” (coarse) to it, because Be-Bopp is a bit more aggressive than traditional Jazz. In Dixieland Jazz the Bass drum often has a wide open BOOM sound and played on 1 and 3. I studied Jazz.

  • @drummerplusone I know how bass drums are played in jazz music, I've seen Elvin Jones back in the 70's and his 18 inch Gretsch kick was way louder and he played very hard to the point where he had to nail a block of wood to keep the bass drum from creeping. It depends on the player, the venue, and the type of jazz being played. Tony Williams also kicked the bass drum hard, Billy Cobham, they would play the accents hard.

  • @drummerplusone The Yamaha hip kit, or whatever they call is a hunk of crap. Those things are toys some drummers get to do a small casual gig with. They aren't what I would consider a real drum set. It looks like a toy, it sounds like a toy and I know Weckl kicks his bass drum pretty hard. It's the wrong kit for that gig, the venue is too big and/or it's not mic'd very well. Either way, he is playing a toy drum set.

  • @Oneness100 This video shows a brilliant musician absolutely killing a jazz session with an ostinato most other drummers can't even understand and fills from another planet, and you write a paragraph talking about the size of the drum kit and the fact that it's wrong for the venue, etc.? Dude, please. Get a life.

  • @gitchigoomi Why did, someone pee in your cheerios? Do you own one of the hip gig kits and afraid to admit it. I play on an older generation Yamaha maple custom kit, and I wish I had something better. Yamaha has been disappointing me and this kit isn't made for the high end market. sorry, just speaking my mind, as I can comment, this is a free country, or are you one of those censors out there trying to censor people?

  • @gitchigoomi My name is Dude, plus I did give Weckl credit for his playing, just not his choice (if he had one on the first place), to use a crappy toy drum set. Maybe Yamaha was using this video to use for promotional purposes to try to sell more kits.

  • @Oneness100 If you don't like the kit then don't buy one and don't watch the video. Simple as that. I also have Yamaha maple customs and I love the kit. If you don't, its probably because you have crappy heads and/or don't know how to tune.

  • @02duramaxlb7 I know how to tune, I always change the heads (as they are fairly new), maybe you should not make false assumptions to try to discredit someone. I think Yamaha isn't making grate drums, whether Weckl uses them or not. I never said anything bad about Weckl, i think he is kicking butt in this video, but the kit suck. That's my comment and I think freedom of speech is in my favor. I have no plans on buying a yamaha kit. Been there done that.

  • @02duramaxlb7 I just realized, I've owned my Yamaha Maple custom about as long as you been alive. Trust me, I've done sessions, club gigs, concert gigs, and have found my kit to not have perfectly round shells. The hoops are cheap aluminum, I replaced them w/better rims, I had to purchase RIMS mounts. I also noticed that the bass drum hoop is out of round. Depending on the room, some drums sound better than others, i have played on better kit since and I always wanted to replace them.

  • @drummerplusone I didn't say anything bad about Weckl's playing, in fact, I think it is some of his better playing. This is his where he shines. I just think the kit is a toy, I think the drums sound like crap, and they are made for small casual gigs for people without a large vehicle to carry around leggier drums, etc. I have checked them put in person and the shells are birch and cheap mahogany and hey don't sound very good, nor are they a high end professional kit. That's my opinion.

  • @drummerplusone Correct all around.

  • je ne m'en lasse pas !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is't me or is that bass drum very small

  • @xPhuZioNx actually, I believe it's a 16". The kit is the Jerry Morotta kit since that is available in Yellow, whereas the 18" Al Foster kit isn't available In Yellow. either way, those kits are more like a toy to be used for a causal gig for drummers that are to lazy to bring a real kit, or if you don't have a big enough vehicle to transport a normal sized kit. They aren't very loud due to the size and the woods used. LOL...

  • i bet if he played on pots and pans using large wooden spoons as sticks he would sound the same if not better...

its sickens me to be honest!

  • Very nice to see him on a such a small kit, still kicking it away like the best

  • is that tom kennedy on bass?

  • Best DRUMMER in the WORLD!!! He got everything'..!!!

  • That's one of the best collections of cymbals on the planet.

    On one drum kit.

    What a genius.

  • Dave, Dave...

  • VIRGIL DONATI IS GOD

  • he murdered that little hip-gig set....Dave is the master of all masters...

  • Sweet baby jesus! Circus freak chops.

  • aaagghhh weckl whyyy did you become a sabian guyyy? we've now lost tony royster jr AND weckl! what has this world COME TO???

  • @willshiznit86 people sometimes get tired of machine hammered cymbals :) the HHXs have so much more soul than any dull sounding machine made K !

  • @sabian16 k's (or any cast bronze zlidjian for that matter) arent machine hammered. nor do they sound dull. get your facts straight bud.

  • @willshiznit86 Zildjian no longer uses hand hammering. they use machines to hammer the cymbals and they call it "random hammering". The old Ks sounded better because back in the day they used real people to hammer every cymbal. go research it.

  • @sabian16 well they sound better than any sabian I've heard.

  • Just noticed how low he sits

  • @RainbowLogic he actually sits higher than average... ;)

  • @fenderkw Is that box he is sitting on for that kit adjustable?

  • @RainbowLogic LOL looks like hes sitting on a floor tom. Plus its a tiny fusion kit don't think someone could sit that low all the time.

  • I wanna frostwire music like this, but Idk what to search for :(

  • The saxophonist looks so much like Hitler lolz zomg

  • @CyraxQC He looks nothing like Hitler

  • Truly incredibly phenomenal. Catch him live and bare witness, then go home and change your shorts.

  • tro en forme

  • @spacitydrummer4JC

    aaron is the black dave.

  • love it

  • Dave is the white Aaron Spears at fills.

  • @spacitydrummer4JC Yeah, just 10 times better...

  • Yeah, how about 10 times better.

  • que zarpadoo!!

  • Theres so much energy to the playing and to the music! Really shows up modern Pop music to me and the lack of enegry and expression put into the music.

  • I loved this DVD!

  • Love that kit!!

  • Le faltarón al respeto a dave weckl.. Aun asi los callo.. jjaja

  • Le faltarón al respeto a dave weckl.. Aun asi los callo.. jjaja

  • why is the snare in that kind of stand?

  • Amazing. Everything was executed perfectly. He is like a drum god.

  • look at that beautiful patina on his old ass ride!!!

  • i love his drums set

  • THE MASTER¡¡¡¡¡

  • офигенно

  • SUPER !!!

  • Fantastic! What's that drum stool or whatever he's sitting on?

  • @junkyarddrummer, i played one of these kits at my local store the stool is actually a case for the other drums to go in as the whole kit is small scale on a purpose for the travelling light drummer, these kits are great !!

  • Comment removed

  • @rudeboyread i'd say it would be awkward for a big guy, look how far back he is sitting! anyone know what heads he is using, the 12"tom sounds so deep but is so shallow??

  • @rudeboyread Not like Terry Bozzios kit then? =P

  • anybody have an idea how he has his kit tuned in this video?

  • There is an excellent video on YouTube by DW regarding tuning drums in which he shares many of his secrets. Well recommended!

  • he uses the biggest variety of kits that Ive seen a drummer use

  • looks like he is sitting way back!

  • holy crap dude

  • I feel great if I can just count it and stay on.

  • Dave weckl Mann the time signatures Is sick I love playing in and out of beat The jazz fills and runs are so collective. Jazz is universal, but so unique ,It has so much life. Preciate you dave weckl expressing it.

  • @jswitch2010 what's sick about the time signatures? this is in common time

  • @McYaballow i guess he's referring to the comping that Weckl's doing? eg: playing on the up beats and what not.

  • @McYaballow thats the whole point, it feels like its in something ridiculous like 21/16 though

  • @jswitch2010

eh, no odd time signatures...he's playing simple songo style bass drum pattern too ...

  • Just because he is not performing "odd time signatures" right now doesn't mean he can't play that. Also, this isn't just some "simple songo style bass drum pattern too," you can't easily pick this up just by listening to it. Either way good music is good music. And Dave Weckl IS the modern day "Buddy Rich." Check this out:

    Song: Watch Your Step

    Album: Multiplicity (track 1)

You just wasted a minute of your time, next time read the post that * I was responding to * before you go on preaching. :/

  • I want that drum rig so bad.

  • This is why Dave Weckl continues to be one my favorite drummers!

  • .....nothing to say..

  • love em............fantastic stuff. thank you dave.

  • aaaamazing drums set! wonderfoul!

  • nothing to say,amazing drummer

  • Lol you fail hard at being an ass.

  • out of this world

  • That's amazing jazz drumming.

  • Holy crap it took me a minute to realize that he's on one of those mini hipgig kits. Damn that thing sounds unreal!

  • Yeah, I'm feeling soooo much as to buy one of em after seeing this vid

  • Yeah if I had the money I'd pick up one of those minikits. I also heard good things about Taye's mini kits where you can transport everything in one trip. The hipgig on this video suprisingly sounds more like a fusion kit to me rather than a high pitched bebop kit.

  • Mmhmm Dave likes to tune his small shells low to attain a deeper, warmer tone. Sounds sweet!

  • i've played on one of those once, and yeah, they sound amazing!

  • What kind of Yamaha is that? cause it looks like nothing I've ever seen before

  • Comment removed

  • king of latin

  • King of pretty much everything.

  • vai t arrombar esse mizeravel toca muito

    monstro das costa ôk

  • la fluidité comme bruce Lee!

  • Simply the best.....nothing else to say......

  • fantastic drumming

  • Is that a ottoman?!?!?! hes sitting on?!?!?

  • I just notice this.. wtf is he sitting on?

  • lol, i didn't saw that

  • It's the case for the hip-gig kit.

  • This is what I call true drumming talent!!!

  • Steve Smith is my favorite drummer simply because he is great and seems like a truly good guy, but Dave is probably the greatest drummer that has ever lived.

  • dave weckl is fckin groovin

  • What's that main ride? Kind of looks like a Zildjian 21" K Custom Special maybe.

  • Well considering Weckl is a Sabian endorser I highly doubt its a K. More than likely it's an HHX evolution or something like that, which is the line he helped design. (Similar to K customs, dark sweet ass tones).

  • That looks nothing like an evolution and this is before his Sabain endorsement.

  • Never mind this is during his Sabian endorsement, but those are Zildjian cymbals.

  • haha I was going to say dude...when he wasn't endorsed by them he had a freakin mullet of doom hahaha

they could also be prototype cymbals, which is why there aren't any markings...or zildjians with the labels taken off. Not sure why he'd use Ks when he has full access to everything Sabian.

  • Actually you can see some of the Zildjian logos on the bottoms of the cymbals. He has some old K's that some would pay thousands to have because they sound so good.

  • This video is from the "How to practice" DVD and at that time Dave was still endorsing Zildjian cymbals.

  • snaps...learn something new every day! That DVD is from 2001...must have been right before he started working with Sabian on HHX evolution...i think those started in 02?

  • even if not, all his cymbals are unmarked so if they are zildjians or w/e, he's not showing it and therefore keeping his sponsorships/endorsements deals intact! haha.

  • haha this is true!

  • 3:23 Zildjian logo.

  • Ah, good eye...I'm still wondering if he didn't use a mix of different cymbals or not.

  • Yes, that is the great Ernie Watts.

  • who the fuck is the man of the sax????

BTW Dave is awesome like always

  • ok, and the name of this man that blows my ass is???

  • is that ernie watts on sax?
