  • I was fortunate to try one bottle that was somewhat fresh. MAN, what an incredible tasting beer! It tasted like a double ipa, the one I had, but the other 2 were borderline nasty because it was close to its expiration date. I wish they made this again so I can try it completely fresh. Great review, man!

  • @BeerichiTuba I wonder where that bottle came from - to my knowledge, they haven't brewed this beer again. But it is a goodie, for sure.

  • @ZakAvery I got it from a liquor store in St. Andrews, Scotland called Luviens. They must have had extras in their storage. The labels was suspicious though. It looked like it was cheaply printed on some colored laser printer.

  • @BeerichiTuba Ah, I know Luvians at Cupar. The labels were all like that, I think - really odd-looking, like a pirate CD or something.

  • You're making me hungry, lol! Good job my tea will be ready shortly!!

  • You can't beat looking at sausages for inducing hunger pangs!

  • Scratch that it's a mild.

  • Please excuse the spelling, i'm typing on my iPhone. Thanks for the advice, I'll try and track down a brown ale that isn't Newcastle brown. I think I can get Bruin by Old Bear brewery up on the main road.

  • Lentil? Beans? Sadly I have "issues" with them...don't ask why. But I'm very much on board with the stout or brown ale. Only if I had a bottle if Hebrew brown ale in the cupboard, lovely stuff! Maybe a bottle of Sam Smiths Inperial Stout, I've been meaning to try that. I did enjoy a bottle of Great Newsome brewery's Sleck Dust, very drinkable and light. Perfect for a muggy, rainy evening.

  • Brown ale definitely, but impy stout may be a bit heavy.

The Great Newsome beers are fab - lovely modern English ales all.

  • I bought a bottle from Beer Ritz last week and by acident bought those very same sausages from the crazy cowboy! Due to my hatred of lentils I'm going to use potatos and a splash of red wine in the stew. Someone mentioned SN Bigfoot, blimey! I bought a half at North Bar a while back and it knocked my head off. But it's 9% uposed to the 3.5% of the Brewdog? Brewdog do produce some seriously daring beers.

  • Hi Rob, thanks for the comment,

it seems we lead parallel lives! I'd maybe carry on the beer theme with a splash of brown ale or stout rather than wine, and beans rather than potatoes, but horses for courses.

    cheers

  • Great video - great recipe and great beer. Hope this goes into proper production, I've never had so much flavour from something 3.5%

  • You need to grow your hair and beard out a tad to rival Moore. Just go with Dr. Phibes. You already possess that suave elegance.

I see someone's given you good information. You spelled my last name correctly!

  • Good video Avery, although you look a bit mad. Almost Dr. Anton Phibes'ish.

  • Thanks Keehn. The strained faraway look is a result of the abominable pressure I've been under for most of this year, now thankfully starting to ease.

So far this year, I've been compared to Dr. Phibes and Alan Moore - is there a theme developing?

  • I've never had this beer, but it sounds similar to Stone's Levitation Ale. It should be pretty easy to find (try it!)

  • Levitation is a great beer, but I have to say that this is a much bigger-bodied beer, at a much lower abv

  • Oh, what a fantastic match. The food recipe sounds very appealing to me, I love sausages and green lentils! And hats off to BrewDog for putting this much flavour into a 3.5% beer! Cheers!

  • Yeah, it's an amazing feat. It's almost Bigfoot-like

    cheers

  • "Fake Fix IPA" - that's a great tagline. Maybe they've single-handedly invented a brand new style of beer!

If I can find this I'm getting it.

  • Really, do try - it's nuts.

    cheers

    Zak

  • Woah, that beer sounds crazy. I've yet to buy a brewdog beer because they're so darned expensive, but if that one makes it to the states, I might make an exception.

  • I think it's a limited edition, but you never know - I'd be amazed if they don't brew it again

    cheers

  • This really is a remarkable beer. It's the feel of the body that gets me - it's so full for 3.5%! The condensed bitterness really changes the hop character too in an interesting way.

I haven't tried it with food yet, fearing a massive hop crash (in fact in a blog post I said to just have the beer on it's own!), but this sounds great. I managed to end up with 9 bottles of this so I'll give it a go.

  • 9 bottles? I went nuts and bought a case and half!

It is a hard beer to match, but the earthiness of the lentils and the smoked paprika really helps. And of course, sausages are great with everything

    cheers

  • what a great video. Recipei, cooking, and reviewing a good beer all rolled into a video under 6 minutes. Great job, super proffesional. Of course I'll never find that beer around here, but I know what you mean about being able to drink it until your socks fall off. 5 Star!

  • Yeah, it's almost my dream beer - you reach contentment before capacity.

    cheers

    Zak

  • Great video. Just the perfect thing to watch first thing in the moring in order to make my outh water and kick my ass into making something for breakfast other than just eggs. That beer sounds like a real winner.

  • On the other hand, scrambled eggs for breakfast means you can crack open a weissebier - it's a win-win situation!

    cheers
