  • you gotta give it to the 5.0 on this run, those things can be made into 1/8 mile monsters...But do this race from a roll and the 5.0 will fall on its face hard as the speed approached 120 plus. It seems that this 427 TA was not set up correctly for the 1/8 mile. Get some gears and tires to make it more even, along with better driving skills, LOL

    I wouldn't say the last gen RX7's look gay, I always thought they looked pretty neat, they have similar rear lights to a Trans Am, and corvette-like shape. Another Japanese car I came to really admire is the 1969 Datsun 240z and the early Honda NSX. But I do agree with you on one thing, I hate the fart sounds that come out of the japs. But I was surprised by the low bumble of Flat-fours like the WRX or the Porsche 914.

    But in the end, I'd much rather have an LSX powered 1980 Corvette.

  • the 5.0s always dominated the streets back then. They weighed in the 2000s and had a lot of hp for such a light car. The camaros and trans ams were to heavy to compete with it

  • I have a 1990 Iroc-z L98 and i have never been as you would say Owned by a fox body that was a stock for stock race.All sub 3,000 pound foxbody where 4 cyle hard top cars. any 5.0 stang even the light lx would still break the 3000 marker.most v8 3rd gen fbodys 3,150-3,600 not so far off pal.%.0 foxbodys do mod very well.bit they are not sub 3000 pound go-karts like you think .

  • Looked like the Trans Am got him in the end...But the Mustang had a bit of a head start.

  • Doesn't say much because this could be determined simply by gears and in racing or just daily preferences people might want different things. When its this close you can't really say one car is going to be better than the other because both have ups and downs.

  • NOPE, watch the vid, and you will see the Mustang's brake lights come on, and a puff of smoke. Mustang had a Nitrous backfire, and shutdown way early.

  • The Mustang has ran 9's, but not on the setup he was on in this vid. Also has anyone else ever tried making a 9 second car hook up on a street? A 1 sec car can easily hand faster cars their ass, due to the faster car not hooking.

  • Cast iron piece of junk? Ever heard of the l88, go ride in a yanko camaro, or an l88 corvette, then call the cast iron 427 a piece of junk.

  • It was a great engine, but compared to an ls7 it's not THAT awesome.

  • Factory numbers are irrelevant. With good flowing heads and a healthy cam, an ls7 can be around 600 rwhp, and still be driven as a daily car with decent mpg. I don't know alot about old engines, but i don't think the l88 can reach 600 rwhp while being reliable like an ls7. Also, the ls7 is aluminum, and that's always good.

  • i think you are selling short the l88. it put out 530 horse from factory, that number is revelevant because that puts it only 70 horsepower from 600. It would be vary easy to get an l88 equiped car to 600 horsepower, and have it be reliable. As for making it a dd, who drives a 69 corvette daily anyways lol.

    That 530 is not the factory rating, it was rated from factory at only 435. all old cars were drastically underrated.

  • I am not saying the ls7 sucks, it is a great peice of enginering. And yes it probably would be a better daily driver. So would a newer vette, they ride nicer.

    But i don't think you are giving the old L88 its credit. I mean its the MIGHTY RAT for crying out loud.

  • It's a great engine. It's an icon. Im just saying that compared to the things they have now it's not the greatest. Not to scrutinize, but i was talking about 600 rwhp not crank hp, so 530 crank hp is quite a bit more than 70 hp to 600 rwhp. Both awsome engines, and the ls7 isn't an icon.. yet =]

    It's an engine dyno so its going to be a bit high but, you defanetly get the idea. 730 n/a hp on pump gas... this example is probably not going to be a great DD, but it shows you the potential of a n/a ls7 on pump gas.

  • i doubt a ls7 can take a fully built 5.0 a stock one yes but not a stroked etc.
