  • @romaneberle As I've grown, I find less and less a best.. just a ton of awesome people doing awesome sutff

  • i hate 4 people

  • he is a fucking crazy guitar list... OMG!!!!!

  • Wow. Which camcorder was used here?

  • I'd like to slap you in your face as you do with that poor guitar

  • I like bald and long bearded andy better

  • WHAT IS THE TUNNING FOR DRIFTING ON A BARITONE

  • This cheap little camera mic can't stand too much awesomeness(:

  • ooooh men! thats cool, and the guitar is just amazing

  • Seriously, who dislikes this????

  • It sounds a lot better on the Lowden he used for the original recording

  • @davidguilfoyle you can't realy tell, in the recording it was mic'ed, here its the camera mic, which is a piece of shit

  • learning this song was tricky. co ordination and rhythm. key components in this piece.

  • @Groundbrawl

Doesn't that apply to pretty much every piece of music?

  • @smctunes yes. i guess i should add in, needs mental focus too.

  • @Groundbrawl Also the requirement of a very strong beard to withstand such awesomeness. :X

  • Looks like hes sitting in a cabinet shop

  • @dragonslayerED30 Andy's playing his then-new guitars at Michael Greenfield's workshop in Canada, where he went to pick them up directly from their luthier! Michael doesn't do factory tours, so it's a privilege to be able to see the workspace where such exceptional instruments are created.

  • Andy is the man... nice guitar!

  • I have watched this a thousand times, and i'm still speachless! It's so fucking amazing! :)

  • cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. awesome

  • 4 people are definitely idiots and ignorant

  • @elreydelpollorico

Maybe they know something that you don't.

  • This seems like he just picked that guitar up from the shop, literally. Looks like a guitar shop of some kind around him..

  • I wanted one of these... Then I went to the website and read "My guitars are currently priced from $14,500". That gave me a sad face...

  • @AeroheadLS Me too, i thought "damn... that guitar will never be mine:/"

  • @AeroheadLS hey.. dude ... subscribe to candyrat chanell and you might win a cool guitar!

  • @Andy40004 Don't tell people! You're taking away my chances of winning! lol

  • @AeroheadLS Me: "Honey, I want to get this new guitar, it's only $700. My wife: "That's too expensive." Andy: "Honey, I want to get this new guitar, it's only $14,500." Andy's Wife: "That's too cheap." Sad face...

  • @AeroheadLS ...... Dear Santa....

  • Made In Quebec?! :O I LIVE HERE, QUEBEC! OK NOW IM HAPPY! :D

  • Andy Mckee is my hero!

I just put up a new song "Pretty Acoustic Song" is the title

If you like Andy McKee hopefully you will think mine is alright! (:

I've only been playing 3 years.

Check it out and tell me what you think (:

  • I love that guitar! Damn Andy is good! :O

    My favourite guitarist! <3

  • Is this kind of guitar designed just for slapping and tap styles or can it be played with more traditional finger and chord styles also?

  • I'm not sure if he's thinner, but it's not like it matters... I'm thinking less beard.

  • Amazing!

  • this guitar looks weird o.O

  • Future of guitar crafting right there. Beautifully in tune.

  • He looks a lot different with hair on his head instead of a beard.

If he ever has to go into hiding he'll know what to do.

  • Hope the guitar doesn't break from all the loud slapping by andy.

  • Perfect Sound! I wish this guitar can be sold on Brasil u.u

  • its like sex for my ears...but not dirty.

  • why is the frets of the guitar like umm diagonal?

  • @blaksephirot they're fanned frets - they allow the guitar to have multiple scale lengths. it's really neat to see them on a regular 6-stringed acoustic, though - i've only seen them on electric 7 and 8 strings so far, and one custom electric 6 string.

  • cool guitar...cool frets...cool playing

  • what a beautiful instrument. one day...one day

  • my god the tone of the guitar is crystal clear

  • What the guitar is identified?

  • i tried learning this. even with the official tabs i couldn't play it.

  • @zeldapikachu64 keep practicing man!! there are a lot of tutorials on youtube. I'm almost there =)

  • Yo. Check out my covery of this, let me know what you think. Thanks!

  • man i just dont know if i could get used to them frets..and go back to conventional frets..i know Steve Via came up with the squiggly fretted deal..for perfect chords and all..but really...i mean come on..lol..1 out of a million people can hear the miss intonation..people like Andy here this guitar is good for..i bet its Brazilian rosewood..or Koa..and prolly very deep body at that..my Taylor sounds just fine to me man..lol..ill stick with that...

  • that guitar sounds awesome

  • 1 person out of 192 people has no taste in good music at all, lol. Awesome as ever!!!

  • What is your guitar??????

  • The fan frets look stunning but (excuse my ignorance) what is the point?

  • @chriscl100 They help try to achieve 'perfect' intonation. It's pretty effective.

  • fan fretted guitars is for people real music. fanned is the way to go!

  • OMG I love those frets :D

  • fuck shit fuckin fuck ....what the fuck...shit this guitar makes me fuckin mad shittttttttttttttt i wanna i gotta guitar and it's 100$ imagine how it sounds :D :D fuckkkkkkkkkkkk

  • maybe one day when i'm rich enough i'd buy one of those Greenfield guitars

  • what a nice guitar

  • just get a band already andy, his style tries to be an orchestra but it falls short i think. he should compose for multiple instruments instead.

  • @kaptenmax The only thing "short" is the bus you belong on. This song (and style) is beautiful.

  • @SaddleScars uh, it was a compliment, I guess your knowledge of music theory and such is low. his guitar style tries to to the work of multiple instruments, no bad in that, but just pointing out he could actually compose multiple instrument pieces and probably make even more beautiful music.

  • @kaptenmax But that's what you seem to miss - this is Andy's style. The beauty lies in the fact that he CAN play rhythmic, melodic and percussive parts simultaneously AND make a beautiful song out of it; it's not about what's "correct" according to music theory and such things. Making original music is akin to coming at a blank canvas - there are no rules. You can take to it with a brush in a masterfully trained hand, or you can start painting with your fingers. Give Andy a guitar-he'll be fine.

  • @kaptenmax Having said that - I'm NOT downing you man. I misread your "compliment." And admittedly, I am musician who has been crafted by my own ear; I don't read music. Having some music theory courses would undoubtedly help me on my musical journey... I just use every tool I have, music theory not being one of them at the moment.

I have to agree though; I bet Andy could compose some badass songs with a full band :)

  • Awesome!

  • the slap harmonics are so clear to hear!

  • @BrownEyesBlueSoul aah ok i see. well thankyou very much i appreciate it

  • what exactly is the purpose of having a fanned fret guitar? is it just for easthetic appeal or does it change tonal qualities or something?

  • i cant use both my hands at the same time to play this song, someone tell me how i could work on it!!! please...

  • @kalahor practice my friend :)

    it's all about habits

  • @kalahor Focus on training your fretting hand to do the beat and hammer-on rhythm notes first... once you get that down to the point it feels natural, THEN start trying to get your picking hand used to tapping out the notes (by itself! don't incorporate the rhythm notes/beat yet!) until that becomes easy enough... then, gradually (and patiently) begin to combine them together. The final step is toughest, but that's how I went about it...

  • Is it my imagination, or th joint I smoked, or the camera lens...but are the frets fanned out away from the middle of the neck? What's that?!

  • @tremoloheart it's a fanfret guitar :)

  • cool....

  • thank you

  • beautiful!...i noticed that if you mute the audio, it looks like he´s fixing up the guitar in an interesting way.

  • i bet hes sick of playing this song by now

  • @oatmealpizza4u I have learned this song and no matter how much I play it I never get sick of it. I know i can't really speak for Andy, but I never tire of hearing or playing this song!

  • this song is like the best thing ever. i cant get enough of it!!

  • Where's his Man-Beard...

  • thats amazing

  • I love this sound:)Guitar is great:)How much it costs,I wonder?:)

  • so cool !!

  • UnFUCKINGbelievable

  • ehat is the reason for fanned frets?

  • @pootinhammer Lets your hand hold the frets in a more natural position

  • @ibanez991 also intonates better

  • @pootinhammer Fanned frets are used for helping intonation. On many songs andy uses open chord tunings. The way the frets are fanned on this guitar helps give him good intonation, as sometimes with straight frets having strings tuned down (or up etc) lots can screw up the intonation.

They are also used on 8 and 9 string guitars. and 8 strings low F# string can sound muddy and rubbish with 25.5 scale length, but raising the S L makes string bending harder. Fanned frets give you both.

  • his guitar is customized? looks like its bent

  • What a good tone without amps!!

The frets are fanned to best easy play things like "Drifting": you have high frets just in face of you. Normal frets are not in face on this kind of playing.

Is not a matter of intonation. Once you have fanned frets, you MUST adapt the bridge.

  • por que los trastes y los puentes están tosidos??

  • the frets arent...horizontal?

  • @TimmOfficial something about so the tuning is perfect sounding in certain circumstances.

  • @TimmOfficial Supposedly fanned frets get better intonation than standard straight up and down frets.

  • @warrenmusic I don't think so...I think that's why you CAN tighten and loosen the strings...and, maybe you are right, but I think it depends on what type of strings you use...I dunno I've been plain guitar for a while, and find that fanned guitars more of...harmonize? better.

  • @PsychoBeast1980 *Playing damn keyboard

  • @PsychoBeast1980 Tuning isn't the problem. It's the intonation of the note at each fret. Your fundamental note can be in tune without the 12th fret being a perfect octave, so the fanned frets are meant to address that problem.

  • @warrenmusic but the notes are in fractions (of the strings, i.e., 12th fret, or 1 octave, is half.), so this shouldn't matter.

  • @PsychoBeast1980 1 octave is a half, but there are plenty of guitars with sharp or flat 12th fret octaves. Just use a tuner and play a few guitars; it won't be long before you find one. Fanned frets mainly deal with the scale length, which in turn fixes intonation issues.

  • that guitar is sweet. It's seems to be ergonomically correct the way the frets are. .. Tone is very nice as well. I dont' play guitar by the way, so I'm just throwing in 2 cents.

  • that guitar is trippin me out

  • You cannot play this song the way he does. Impossible. Hes great.

  • LOL @ the end. I was thinking the exact same thing.

  • beautiful guitar and playing

  • That guitar is pure awesomeness, so is the performance!

  • haha the guitar is confusing me cuz it looks very lopsided XD?

  • wow those frets are awesome xD

  • i love the ending xD

  • amazing Andy! he is my master (=

I hope I will play this piece like him

  • nice .. i like the old guitar though

  • I can play this Drifting full but every time I play it I can feel that something lacks in my version of Drifting..its the EMOTION that Andy best in.

  • Wow that sounds really amazing, even better than his other one in my opinion which is pretty hard to top

  • Damn that guitar is nice!!

  • hes amazing and the guitar is beautiful and i just completely respect him. and is it just me or did he get thinner from his original drifting video??

  • @jman9876 "The guitar is unplugged and was recorded using the camcorder mic."

That is why. On the original video sound was professionally recorded. : )

  • @jman9876 nah... he's just wearing a black shirt XDDD

  • @jman9876 i think it's the hair. it makes him look slightly less of a burly man lumberjack xD

  • @jman9876 - well he's certainly doing a lot of running around w/touring and promoting his latest album, Joyland. Yes, skinnier it seems : )

  • It looks like a complicated magic trick when i watch his hands. CRRAAAAYZEEEEEE!

  • great playing. You have to do something with Tracey Bundy.

  • HAhahahahaha, joking? That IS Andy.

  • @MrTaylorN

That's what happens when you grow hair and lose weight at the same time. You transform into a whole new person :P

  • hahahaha, he is Andy Mckee

  • lol it is andy mckee.

  • UN PHéNOMèNE !!! Merci à toi :))

  • Such a talented musician.....and the tone of that greenfield is so RICH!

    5/5 cheers for the upload.

  • Why the frets are in other position? can someone tel me?

  • This is Fanned Fret guitar.I believe having the fret in that position give you a better and richer guitar sound.

  • On regular-fretted guitars; the intonation is in fact a tiny bit off. For the untrained ear it is nearly unnoticable, but an experienced musician like McKee can tell the difference.

When using fanned frets the intonation is actually perfected, so every note will sound spot on everywhere you play on the neck.

For more information; check Andys live video where he breaks a string; he explains it there.

  • It does not only have to do with intonation. In fact, the intonation is only a slight bonus.

If you have a really long scale length, say 30" the bass strings will sound incredibly deep and rich while the thinner strings will sound shallow and lifeless. a shorter scale does just the opposite. The bass strings sound poor and the trebble strings sound great. A fan gives you the best of both, as it has multiple scale lengths.

  • well, i think this proves the man's true talent, he sounds unbelievable on a regular camcorder with a small mic, and unplugged, im sorry, but anyone who said the video and audio were recorded separately on the last one were sadly wrong, i think this man is just truly unbelievable. and it just looks like he takes so much joy in making music that makes him pleased.

  • What a great performance! pure incredible!

  • it looks like hes in his shed where he fixes shoes ( in the background). what a big ASS guitar. this makes me realize how much a good plugin and mic can improve the sound.

  • The guitar isn't that big, he's just a really small guy.

  • i see now.but when his bald he looks like a big buff guy. still the guitar's ass is gigantic

  • the guitars look just as big in the videos when he was heavier, but he's probably around 5'5 tall, maybe less... so any guitar will look big on him, this vid is just zoomed out more and you can see it more clearly.

  • llokthis boy fromberlin /watch?v=iLC1W3mGJys

  • never got tired on watching him play this song

  • Andy's awesome!

  • waoh

  • Its amazing that the guitar is unplugged. Such rich tone..

  • sound better than the first version he record

i'm impressed with this Fanned Fret thing

  • That's because of the mid range sound that fan frets produce.

  • the fanned frets dont alter the sound, they just help the guitar intonate better

the sound comes from the body

  • Aww. This version is shorter. Still awesome!

  • why is this guitar so crooked?

  • It's called a fan fret guitar.

  • Nem bírok betelni a videóival, annyira istenül nyomja Andy.. :D Az Africa is kibaszott jó tőle :D

  • His gootar is totally crooked :-P

  • It's a fan fretted guitar. A fan fretted guitar as that shape because it forces the guitar to stay in tune and it allows the four bass strings to have a better low end sound.

  • wow he lost a lot of weight

  • \m/ YEAH \m/

  • holy shit! amazing man! amazing song! amazing guitar!

    ill say it again

    HOLY SHIT!

    lolz!

  • love the fret bends!!
