Motorcycles are already pretty environmentally friendly, compared to most cars. Though the electric bike is expensive (making it a luxury), it is a step in the right direction. The recycled metal is a cool concept, though. Now if we could only make the electricity going INTO the bike green, then we'd have a 100% green bike.

The reason why its so expensive is like all concept vehicles is because its to show what the company is capable of. They were hand made and massed produced projects were machined. It cost money to build the tools to machine a new product. So all companies start with concept first. All that is fine and good so long as the cars are reliable, affordable and desireable. If what GM comes up with next is about as exciting to drive as a golf cart with a dead battery, as exiting to look at as watching linoleum curl and as well designed as the pontiac aztek, the auto industry in america is doomed, and it won't matter how green it's materials are. We need to make enviromentally friendly cars that are sexy enough to deserve being represented on bedroom walls everywhere.

The reason why its so expensive is like all concept vehicles is because its to show what the company is capable of. If public interest called for it to be massed produced then it would be a lot cheaper. Which is why you dont see concept vehicles on the road. They were hand made and massed produced projects were machined. It cost money to build the tools to machine a new product. So all companies start with concept first. Im a designer so I see this a lot.

With power lines covering the earth, the depletion of the rain forests, nuclear reactors, commercial airplanes, electricity power stations, bombs being dropped from the sky, pesticides, record amounts of waste materials being discarded every millisecond, dumping in the ocean, over fishing the seas, over pumping earth's oil, etc. etc. etc. I doubt we can over simplify the problem by placing blame on SUVs. 100mpg and electric cars will not stop climate change. Global warming is just the beginning.

This is an R&D bike, not production. So, think down the line when an electric cycle gets 500 miles/charge and does 200mph. And it costs $10-15K.

if they had said that the bike ran off hydrogen fuel cells and they found an energy efficient means of extracting the hydrogen from the air while your driving, then id be impressed.
just because exhaust isnt comming out the tail pipes doesnt mean its not comming out the smoke stack.

Relying more on batteries that need traditional power plants to charge them is NOT AN IMPROVEMENT. I need a new battery on my laptop and Cell phone every couple of years and those are low current low output.
electric cars electrocute victims and rescue workers in accidents, cost a fortune, and require expensive replacement batteries many times faster than laptops do, effectively producing as much waste in terms of total mass as normal cars, but much more toxic.
And its way more expensive.

Paul is now officially lame. A "green" bike that gets 60 miles on one charge... and it takes 5 hours to charge!? So basically, I could ride for one hour (@60 MPH) for every 5 hours I charge it.

This is the problem with hybrid/fuel efficient/clean cars. If the sellers want people to realistically buy these types of cars, they need to be efficient, CHEAP, and easy. Not a million dollar bike that goes 60 miles for every 5 hours your charge.

where does the electricity come from that powers up the bike? Some people don't like Dams because of their effects, wind power because they are dangerous for birds, nuclear plants because of inherent dangers or coal plants because of the obvious. What do we do, go back to horse drawn carriages?
