good review, i thought Nite Owl II was good in the film because (i think) his character was, more of a blander less extreme personality. His character critiqued the more extreme characters like Rorschach and the Comedian by contrasting it
alright, let me clarify myself for all who dont understand. Bob Dylan originally did the song, but Jimi Hendrix covered the song. just like what quicksilver said.
If there's anything I disagree with you on, I disagree on your opinion on Patrick Wilson as Nite Owl II because I really liked him alot and out of the main characters, he's the most likeable.
Plus, you didn't even mention Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias so what gives? He's important too!
I got a question for you, will you be reviewing the director's cut later on? It will come out this summer and I believe the director's cut should deserve a special mention.
Guess the movie in itself is really good... but I unerstand why it pissed so many of the comic-book fanboys and purists of. But with this good casting I think they will forgive it in time ;)
i dont see how some poeple didnt like it i have the book it looks just like the book with seom new extra scenes added to teh film i liked the movie very long soundtrack sucks but the movie was good & ill buy the dvd
Anyway, if he had accepted the opportunity to direct it in 2003, someone else would have directed Bad Boys 2. Or it might not have been made at all. And the world would be poorer for it. BAY FTW!!1!!11!111!!1!
I saw this movie last night and I can say that in the next years it will probably gain a cult following cause well some people enjoy it, now I'm not trying to be mean I enjoyed the movie myself and having read the graphic novel I thought it was a good adaptation though it did leave out some minor scenes but it can be overlooked.
That will only happen if you did not pay attention to the movie it is pretty straight forward and the thoughts are well represented in the film. I also think that the film is better then the Graphic Novel. but that is just my opinion.
come on the GN and the film are two diff mediums if snyder followed the GN panel by panel and word for word then the film would be too damn long, I really dont blame Snyder for trying his adaptation is the closest we'll get to a good watchmen movie. as long as the main plot is there i'm happy
Yeah man I totally agree with you on this review and the following rant about all the douche bag tossers that have to nit pick EVERYTHING to DEATH because they are either too stuck up or too F**kn stupid to realize its impossible to LITERALLY adapt a book/graphic novel word for word! I mean do they expect them to make a 7 HOUR MOVIE?!?! And even if by some crazy chance they did make a 7 hour movie, they would still find some reason to bitch!
I think this movie was too complex and different for a lot of people . Critics and average movie goers just don't get it. They don't bash it for the music choices, acting or dialogue. It is usually just a complaint about the plot.
Songs that help define the era with the '60s? Don't get me wrong, I love the music on the soundtrack. I mean, I have a lot of it on vinyl. But really? Almost every song in the film has already been used before, and then were used much better than they were in Watchmen. I watched this film feeling that my intelligence had being insulted. They clearly scored the film knowing the majority who would see it would be teenagers my age who haven't even heard most of the music--"Ooh, it's so old school".
I don't get the whole hating on movies thing lately. Since the internet everybody seems to just want to look for something to complain about, it's just bad. I think it's because the internet brings you so much closer to the critics whose pages in the newspapers one would just skip straight past.
I do things the old way. I have fun with my movies and games.
I've seen movies I WOULD call "terrible" but none of them are ones which anybody in here will be likely to have seen.
Just wanted to add, I think the internet mentality is that movies and videogames are bad until proven otherwise. Unless it's a net-obsession film like The Dark Knight. They walked into Watchmen expecting flaws, they dwelled on every little blemish and skipped over the good stuff.
The Dark Knight was incredible but I think it's tainting people's view on what superheroes and action movies are all about - thrills and fun. I wouldn't want to live in a world where every comic-movie was like TDK.
this comment has nothing to do with the movie, as i have yet to see it.
i love the format of your recent videos, fury. i don't find it distracting; it's witty, colorful, and the absence of your talking face lends it a certain documentary-esque quality. all in all, your videos command respect and a degree of admiration. keep 'em coming, you have yet to disappoint.
Thanks sarah, I've tried to figure out how I can present an entertaining video without showing my face. I've always felt the message is more important , I don't want to be a "star" I want people to talk about what I'm saying so I'm happy you enjoy it. I try to add a little something different in every video. Thanks for the kind words.
I thought the movie was great....even if you had no idea or have never read the graphic novel the action scenes, and the plot are enough to satisfy the average movie fan....I liked it
You're an idiot kicken, what exactly is an honest review to you? a review that matches YOUR own opinion? Don't worry, Transformers 2 is coming out soon so all you haters complaining can enjoy a classic Bay romp filled with colors and funny zingers. oh by the way, Bay uses slow-mo too.
Hey Fury, I hope nobody messes with this format. I really enjoyed listening to your review while watching the preview. The other stuff was just distracting; but I am 41 and wasn't raised to do homework, text someone, hold two or three IM conversations and watch tv at the same time. ;-)
Still waiting for to see what you look like. I'd love to have you do a review as yourself instead of shadow man :-)
well dude, I would like nothing more than to keep this style, the fact is that even now some of my older videos get claims by companies saying some of the "video" im using is theirs and it's really frustrating. I gave it a go here cuz its nice to see it AND every other Frakkin channel does it so whats the beef.
You don't want to see me, it'll distract from what I'm saying and not to mention all the women that will fall in love and send me love letters and then my wife will be angry so, no drama
Thank you Michael Bay for learning your lesson from Pearl Harbor and not directing Watchmen. Can't wait for transformers 2..movie with lots of explosion, and no real plot...awesome.
Best movie of the year so far...Zach Snyder should seriously be one of the only directors allowed to touch comic books along with Robert Rodriguez and Christopher Nolan.
its good that you keep improving your new style....good luck in that....by the way i had a question...what do you think of video piracy?....just curiosity
Micheal Bay???!! The bitchy fanboys have no idea how shitty this film could have been. Great review. I loved this film and I'll most likely see it again later this week.
Good Review. I thought it was a good movie, but I had some issues with it as well. Worth seeing for sure, but it is not for all audiences. Take care my friend.
Shame, as I would have loved to know more in deapth about what you felt about this movie. Oh well, best of luck with whatever projects your doing now :3.
No worries. BTW, I uploaded a rant on film nitpickers earlyer. Partly inspired by your rant on the Watchmen film, but I also talk about those that try and draw a contraversy from any little detail in recent films. Check it out if your interested ^_^.
i thought i was the only one who thought that some of the music choices were just wrong and didn't fit with the scene that really were suppose to have tension.
besides that long answer, i agree even though it was not a great movie it still was good overall
Your girlfriend doesn't appreciate the comic or good music. Shame you will defend her to the death while I am here enjoying classic Hendrix while reading watchman and you are probably listening to T Pain frantically trying to get to 3rd base with your girlfriend.
Any person who read the comic (Yes! Comic, enough with this graphic novel crap.) cannot be disappointed with this film and if they are, I think they secretly didn't like the comic to begin with. There is very little left out or changed and it's as close to a comic come to life page to page as we could possibly get. I think the only other movie that gets this close to the source material is Sin City.
i never read the comic so i was lucky to be disconnected from that weight i'm sure my cousin had as she swarmed around in her seat with an angry face the whole movie.
Me...i instead had the chance to hate it on my own. The first half or so was good. But the last hour was some ol' bullshit. I reckon thats around the point snyder decided to put his own spin on the shit. I will most definitely not see his next, personally written, film. He fucking sucks. At least outside of the visuals.
lol there was nothing to be confused about. The ending and it's lead up (pretty much the point where they stop building up the world and the characters) was horrible. It was hamfisted, weak, and structured like an bad episode of ugly betty. Then the shots at bush at the end made me squirm..it's like he got to the end and said "wait...i forgot to directly attack bush HERE I GO!"
I hate the bustard too but shit you could be a little more subtle than that.
I can't see how either you or your cousin hated this movie. *shrug* Can't please everyone, I guess. The 2nd half resolves the plot of the movie - stopping the person who killed the Comedian from killing again. If it feels hamfisted and weak, don't blame the director because this is what happens in the comic. Personally, I don't see where it went wrong - I enjoyed the film completely. *shrug*
Yeah, I think the fact that Michael Bay could have potentially directed this movie immediately erases any negative feelings I had about this film going into it.
I was hoping you weren't going to say silver throughout the entire review. I'm really glad. In 30 years kids like me will be going to see it in an old movie theater. I couldn't agree with your review more.
if it's taken down it'll be by either warner brothers OR any other company involved in handing out the free promotion. Then I'll go on a spree about how every other damn partnered critic on this place uses the same damn trailers over and over and get pats on the asses. the war is still on.
wow they wanted micheal bay to do it, he doesnt seem like he'd be good for it as much as i loved transformers i couldn't see him making an epic such as Watchmen
I didn't read the novel before it so going into it, I had no clue what it was about. All I know is that this movie was awesome and the violence was so brutal that a chick in my theatre actually threw up at the dogs eating the girl's leg part
9.6 from me. The only problem, in my own opinion, was the flow and the music. These are both fairly minor complaints, so rest easy. The flow makes sense, but feels sometimes a bit awkward, maybe because they pulled two scripts together. My only problem with the music was the music they played when Nite Owl II and Laurie made love in Archie.
and there are zombie waiting to get their assesd kicked and we got the boots to kicking em with so watcha waiting for Fury? lets kill some zombies some time! lol
i enjoyed the film, but it wa a bit of a let down for me. i came in thinking i was going to get the 2nd coming of the dark knight or a perfect film of its class and that wasnt the case, but none the less i still enjoyed for what it was. Fury, i dont even remember the last time my 360 notified me that we where on LIVE. come on now fury us little reviewers and fans want to play with you on LIVE. you have left 4 dead as well.
If you went in with any kind of expectations, I think most of the fault lies with you, not the movie. When I go to see any film, I go in with no or very little expectations. When I go to see a comic book film, I really discard my expectations. When you expect little and are given more, you leave happy. And when you expect little and get what you expect, at least you're content.
wrong the comic is very deep the film has bad acting, bad dialog, bad action sceans and leaves alot of the deep from the book. if this came out before the dark knight it would have had some thing to give but not anymore
It's really hard to take someone's opinion seriously when they can't even spell properly. Moreso, when they don't even know what they're talking about. Bad dialogue? The dialogue is straight from the comic, so in essence, you're saying the comic has bad dialogue. The movie omits very little from the comic, you just need to go back and re-read it.
you do have a point about the dialog it wasnt all bad just a little bit. and about the spelling i am dislecsik and have been for my entier life and i work hard every day to fix it. would you tell some one there opinion was wrong if they were missing a arm or were in a wheel chair NO
When I finished watching watchmen...I want that blown away...BUT after I came home...i noticed myself just pacing around the house and thinking and absorbing the film..thats when I realized how good of a movie this is....There are so many things to absorb..that you might just not appreciate it right away...
8.5/10.. Great, effects, great artistic sense...Jakie Earle and Jeffrey Dean stole the show..i only wished we got to see more of Jeffery.
The next comic book flick will be "Dragonball Evolution" but as a fan it might turn out a bit disappointing.
It's a shame really it had the potential to be a great film but it won't satisfy hardcore fans and the non-fans probably won't understand it since they never read nor seen the original manga/anime, kinda like Watchmen.
Very interesting. From what you have said here, the Watchmen film has met my expectations! It's faithfull to the comic, and from what I've seen spices up a few scenes with more action to make it apeal to a somewhat wider audiance, without diverting too much (if at all) from the key plot and deap story that the comic book had.
This film is one of the most underratted superhero films ever. Dark Knight is a masterpeice dnt get me wrong, but this tops it.

Watched The Watchmen yesterday.
Know the comic, read it once. Liked it. Like the movie, was very close to the original.
Felt very long. Had pacing problems. Liked the different ending.
Girlfriend never read the comic, still liked the movie.
Got to give Zack credit for showing Manhattan's dick the whole time.
Want to hurt him for the stupid music choice in many scenes.
Interested in seeing the director's cut. Hope to see more scenes with Rorschach

Me...i instead had the chance to hate it on my own. The first half or so was good. But the last hour was some ol' bullshit. I reckon thats around the point snyder decided to put his own spin on the shit. I will most definitely not see his next, personally written, film. He fucking sucks. At least outside of the visuals.
staticbb 3 years ago
thats what pissed you off. youve must of been confused, read the novel
xombl3 3 years ago
lol there was nothing to be confused about.
I hate the bustard too but shit you could be a little more subtle than that.
staticbb 3 years ago
I can't see how either you or your cousin hated this movie. *shrug* Can't please everyone, I guess. The 2nd half resolves the plot of the movie - stopping the person who killed the Comedian from killing again. If it feels hamfisted and weak, don't blame the director because this is what happens in the comic. Personally, I don't see where it went wrong - I enjoyed the film completely. *shrug*

Nice review man. Gonna follow you on twitter.
How did you manage to film the intro without getting told off?
UchihaMatt 3 years ago
I'm very intimidating.
FuryoftheFilmFan 3 years ago
I agree.
Also I requested you on PS3.
What games do you have?
masterguy49 3 years ago
whoo thank god Michael Bay didn't direct the movie.
it would only have been explotions, accion and shitty writting/acting.
i mean look what happend to Transformers and Pearl Harbor.
i think this movie is one of the first movies that Alan Moore would pay omage and respect to his source material.
Keep it up Fury.
AClockworkJerry 3 years ago 2
Yeah, I think the fact that Michael Bay could have potentially directed this movie immediately erases any negative feelings I had about this film going into it.
jadekite22 3 years ago
I was hoping you weren't going to say silver throughout the entire review. I'm really glad. In 30 years kids like me will be going to see it in an old movie theater. I couldn't agree with your review more.
ExSaint1379 3 years ago
i saw it on tue, at the secret opening cause i won tickets at chilies =) and i thought it was amazing
darkpker419 3 years ago
i love you all fury but this will be taken down
libertines24 3 years ago
if it's taken down it'll be by either warner brothers OR any other company involved in handing out the free promotion. Then I'll go on a spree about how every other damn partnered critic on this place uses the same damn trailers over and over and get pats on the asses. the war is still on.

excellent review fury,I had a fun time and was talkin about it with friends but i must say, this wasn't what i thought it was going to be
wertyui422 3 years ago
very well done fury :D
your reviews are always kick ass
themovieguys101 3 years ago
wow they wanted micheal bay to do it, he doesnt seem like he'd be good for it as much as i loved transformers i couldn't see him making an epic such as Watchmen
SomeGuyWhoMakesVids 3 years ago
I really think you overrated this movie but its cool. You can do whatever you want.
I thought the comic was miles better, but the movie has its postives like the ending
libertines24 3 years ago
I didn't read the novel before it so going into it, I had no clue what it was about. All I know is that this movie was awesome and the violence was so brutal that a chick in my theatre actually threw up at the dogs eating the girl's leg part
magicman205 3 years ago
So... is it supposed to be stop-motion instead?
ZeroApostle4Ever 3 years ago
zero is right I wanna know what this guy thinks Watchmen SHOULD have been.

all the way to comic #6
FuryoftheFilmFan 3 years ago
9.6 from me. The only problem, in my own opinion, was the flow and the music. These are both fairly minor complaints, so rest easy. The flow makes sense, but feels sometimes a bit awkward, maybe because they pulled two scripts together. My only problem with the music was the music they played when Nite Owl II and Laurie made love in Archie.

i enjoyed the film, but it wa a bit of a let down for me. i came in thinking i was going to get the 2nd coming of the dark knight or a perfect film of its class and that wasnt the case, but none the less i still enjoyed for what it was. Fury, i dont even remember the last time my 360 notified me that we where on LIVE. come on now fury us little reviewers and fans want to play with you on LIVE. you have left 4 dead as well.
spidey2065 3 years ago
I have left for dead but only for steam. (pc)

you got ps3 already fury? whats your PSN yo so i can add you. you have SOCOM?
xombl3 3 years ago
If you went in with any kind of expectations, I think most of the fault lies with you, not the movie. When I go to see any film, I go in with no or very little expectations. When I go to see a comic book film, I really discard my expectations. When you expect little and are given more, you leave happy. And when you expect little and get what you expect, at least you're content.
Dreadpirate46 3 years ago
wrong the comic is very deep the film has bad acting, bad dialog, bad action sceans and leaves alot of the deep from the book. if this came out before the dark knight it would have had some thing to give but not anymore
sonicfan74 3 years ago
It's really hard to take someone's opinion seriously when they can't even spell properly. Moreso, when they don't even know what they're talking about. Bad dialogue? The dialogue is straight from the comic, so in essence, you're saying the comic has bad dialogue. The movie omits very little from the comic, you just need to go back and re-read it.
Dreadpirate46 3 years ago
you do have a point about the dialog it wasnt all bad just a little bit. and about the spelling i am dislecsik and have been for my entier life and i work hard every day to fix it. would you tell some one there opinion was wrong if they were missing a arm or were in a wheel chair NO
sonicfan74 3 years ago
of course michel bay turned watchmen down hes trying to work on his solo project EXPLOSINS!!! the movie
sithlord4886 3 years ago 2
what is it supposed to be exactly?
FuryoftheFilmFan 3 years ago
When I finished watching watchmen...I want that blown away...BUT after I came home...i noticed myself just pacing around the house and thinking and absorbing the film..thats when I realized how good of a movie this is....There are so many things to absorb..that you might just not appreciate it right away...
8.5/10.. Great, effects, great artistic sense...Jakie Earle and Jeffrey Dean stole the show..i only wished we got to see more of Jeffery.

Great review! And I got the trivia question right! Ha!
crimsong19 3 years ago
The next comic book flick will be "Dragonball Evolution" but as a fan it might turn out a bit disappointing.
It's a shame really it had the potential to be a great film but it won't satisfy hardcore fans and the non-fans probably won't understand it since they never read nor seen the original manga/anime, kinda like Watchmen.
CyberpunkCentral 3 years ago
dragonball looks like the ultimate trash movie.
bluregardqcazu 3 years ago 3
I can't believe i got the trivia question. That one is much harder than usual.Good review BTW fury.
DAN13LS70NE 3 years ago
Very interesting. From what you have said here, the Watchmen film has met my expectations! It's faithfull to the comic, and from what I've seen spices up a few scenes with more action to make it apeal to a somewhat wider audiance, without diverting too much (if at all) from the key plot and deap story that the comic book had.
