i have seen videos of people reving their 302's out to 8500+

the highest i ever went was 6000, i didnt know what internals were in the engine at the time, and didnt want to break anything, plus the HEI doesnt go much higher than that, once i rebuild it, i will take another vid and give it some rpms

A 600 CFM carb is not too small, big carbs take away power off the line, check out my video, my 415 has about 675hp and I have a 4bbl 390cfm carb on it

thanks a lot! not really sure how much power it has, im estimating around 400hp if it had a good tune. The engine dyno program estimates it at around 428hp @ 6000rpm and 423ftlb @ 4500 rpm with a 750cfm carb
