  • Holy shit it's Kurt Cobain!

  • i hope this is the future of pop music. thats the world i wanna live in. ive been obsessed with ariel pink for the past 3 years. his music is soooo good.

  • great song and the band has really come a long way. they sound great live on a late night show.

  • Yo Tim!

  • so this is pretty much the worst shit ever

  • @structo1 I can definitely see how this might not please many. But I think there sound is really unique and catchy. It's kind of like a refined 80's thing. The thing I like most about them is that they just don't care what everyone else likes, they just do whatever.

  • He looks just like Cobain! Dresses a bit more brightly though...

  • wow

so this group ive been listening to for the past month are a bunch of drag queens .....SWEET !!11

  • I havent loved a song this much since 2007. Fucking awesome.

  • Why would he/they pick that lame/boring song to play? it's one of his worst. Is this going to be a repeat of what happened to weezer after pinkerton, on a much freakier scale? that'd be sad

  • Talk about a fish out of water...boo

  • ariel pink, you sexy son of a bitch

  • ariel you are so shiny i love it D:

  • I kinda like this live version more than the studio one.

And if you're listening music on youtube through a shitty laptop speaker no wonder you hear no harmonies.

  • okay david bowie jr. haha but seriously this performance is awkward.

    however..the studio version kicks ass..

  • @heylaceface thank you

  • ariel pink looks so fab

  • Nice use of the chorus pedal, Mr. Pink. :)

  • ariel pinks nothing more nothing less just is

  • I love Ariel Pink but I have to admit i was pretty disappointed that they couldn't pull off the absolutely epic chorus on this song live.

  • he who tries to make a point misses the point every time.

  • You did it ARiel PINk dope!!!!

  • harmonies aren't really working are they?

  • ABSOLUTELY magnificent performance... Hope they play PERU sometime!

    Cheers from Lima,

    Jean (Cocteaulab)

  • Why the FUCK is god and religion being discussed here? Keep that shit away from good music, please.

  • Awesome song and cool performance. lol at the front woman (oops I mean front man).

  • This band f**king rocks!!! I dunno why... but I <3 them and can't take my eyes off them.

  • everything is my fault

  • I can't stop watching this!!! I'm so proud of them for making it so far!!!

  • Oh, this is brilliant!

  • Its SUPPOSED to be the most garish thing ever, the outfits AND the cheesy as fuck music. Still, even as i get the point, i dont see the point in getting it.

  • im into it

  • in love with the fucking outfits!

  • This is the lamest thing that I've ever seen. But I love it.

  • Since when did disco become cool again?

  • i love ariel's androgynous charisma here. a brilliantly subtle performance, here. it can only make you wonder, what are they about? are they gay? he's kind of sexy for a guy. i wonder if he would think i'm sexy too?

  • i love the ariel's androgynous charisma here. a brilliantly subtle performance, here. it can only make you wonder, what are they about? are they gay? he's kind of sexy for a guy. i wonder if he would think i'm sexy too?

  • Bacon flip flops

  • This song is like the unicorn. perfect.

  • im actually pretty stoked on this preformance. love the glitter, and love the idea of america not understanding it aat allll

  • Wtf! how did I miss this!

  • I knew he could do it.

  • LOLOLOLOL THE ASIAN DUDE I THINK I'M IN LOVE WITH HIM

  • Let's take a guess on how many/which drugs they're on...

Hope to see them at Pitchfork this year!

  • @Srose777 im willing to bet ecstasy and alcohol!

  • are they all homosexual?

  • EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    omigodomigodomigodomigod!!!!

How the fuck did I miss this? Everything is so sparkly and... AAHH!!! This is so cool.

And Tim has never looked more gorgeous. And I have pink leggings just like that! That's totally gonna be my new look for the whole year.

    *faints*

  • jaja increibles, buen directo . love the album <3

  • ok ok.. I will give it another chance.. but if I wanted human league I would listen to human league.. you know?

  • @supafreshkik if i wanted the human league i'd probably listen to the human league as well mate, top logic there

  • saw this live at laneway festival in auckland (31/01/11). great songs, great band. ariel pink is getting the attention he deserves!

  • @supafreshkik I m just happy for Ariel Pink finally getting some attention, and recording professionally. It would be a real shame (and very contrived) if he signed to a label, and recorded an album in his basement. I applaud his growth and think that real artists should take every opportunity they get to further their art.

  • @supafreshkik I m trying to see what you mean, but I think you re being paranoid. I m not sure if this is your point or not, but this is an old Ariel Pink song in the first place, rearranged and rerecorded. I like the old stuff better too. I bought the doldrums when it came out back in 2004. I m just not sure how "commercial music" can put out anything, usually a label or a person has to do that, and 4ad is not much of a corporate powerhouse label-wise.

  • APHG is so fucking amazing.

  • Ooh la la!

  • @topdoggm16 Sometimes your taste is limited by your experience. Their old stuff was great.

  • seeing this performance and the remake by the kids choir made me realize pitchfork are right on with their choice for song of the year.

  • great performance, tight sound, ugly threads!

  • he looks bored because he's indifferent about being there, and this music is not THAT serious. he knows he has a terrible voice and talks about it. and he's probably drunk on top of it. if you see him live, he's got tons of charisma and his band is fucking tight. not to mention he's one of the nicest dudes. I recommend seeing him before makin' judgements.

  • He looks a little bit Cobain-ish with the sunglasses on

  • I love Ariel Pink but what's with the all seeing eyes all over the fat guitar player's shirt?

  • Comment removed

  • There is a kind of indie music that puts people off of indie music.. Sometimes I think this kind of crap is put out (behind the scenes) by commercial music just to make people come back to whatever they have to sell you instead.

  • @supafreshkik Sometimes your thoughts are incorrect. Both of your sentences are wildly wrong. But don t worry, Arcade Fire is probably playing in your town soon.

  • Do you know those people who clap when a plane lands?

  • Words cannot describe how much I love this band, such a dreamy, carefree sound. <3 And as someone who crushes on androgynous men...think Kevin Barnes...Ariel Pink himself is HOT!

  • shes hot

  • Finally a Cute Blonde Rockstar.

  • @PsycoticPanda7 I thought I was the only one who thought this!

  • ahahaha SHIT! just yesterday I was playing legos with that kid and look at him at the keys. dude wordup! Keep rocking

  • It's eerie how much Ariel sounds like David Bowie at the beginning of the song.

  • great song live... really funny at the end when ariel pink ties to shake fallon's hand and he gets shut down haha

  • 16 are simply stupid

  • THE FINEST ARTIST ON EARTH !!

  • pink skinny jeans whoop whoop

  • 14 dislikes = 14 squares.

  • Asian wizard bassist has that pink tight swag going on.

  • @killkenny14 best comment

  • I love this tune, so nostalgic to a mix of 70's/80's music? I love it anyway :D

  • Geez, these guys are terrible. Did they have session players do the album version? Because it certainly sounds a lot better. Still not good, but better.

  • Merchant! What are you doing their?

  • They look so fucking cool. Great song too.

  • He looks so fabulous and glam, so nonchalant and breezy... And the music sounds better than ever before... What a wonderful, dreamy and romantic performance... Really magical...

  • R Stevie Moore to perform John Birch Society Blues with Ariel on Leno this summer.

  • THEY SOUND AMAZING LIVE,

  • ALL HAIL THE HEIR OF R STEVIE MOORE ON THE FUCKING BOOB TUBE HOLY SHIT

  • I love that freak! He's an indie god now, and when he gets a chnce to show it to the mainstream audience he does what?! He dresses his band in shiny clothes, puts on pink pants, and acts like a gay junkie. Now you tell me he's not authentic. Or more like ironic...

  • @stachulecki

    derrr hes so ironic derrrrrrrrr

  • I wondered how the analog sound would translate live, but it seems to be pretty good.

  • no but seriously

  • yall were great on fallon

  • aside from their feminine look, this jam is pretty refreshing....its got depth and personality unlike all the other shit we hear now.

  • @regi79 did you not find their feminine look refreshing?

  • funs over

  • Steven Merchant AND Ariel Pink?!

  • Pointless to argue about music as about religion. Any art has a right to exist. If at least one person like this, then this group is not in vain.

  • @AliceLoveCode

Every one of your claims is totally wrong. Nothing has a right to exist, not even arts. And no, it's not pointless to argue about music or religion. Only morons who cannot argue think that. And if only one person liked the group it would be pretty damn vain (just look up the term).

Your post just goes to show how little it means to get your post thumbed-up.

And yeah, the movie was kind of entertaining. Too loosely performed compared to the studio version though.

  • @bideogames Actually seems like you are the ONLY one who is wrong - there's nothing to argue about in religion since it's ALL MADE - we MADE god - and only one person at a time ever hears or sees or perceives a song or a group or anything else - no two people have the same experience about ANYTHING - something Albert Einstein called "The Optical Delusion of Everyday Consciousness". Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

  • @yodasling

What an incredibly low level of thinking. Like, what are you even getting at? That we ultimately can't make claims about anything? It's like you can't be trusted with and remotely insightful writing because you just fly off the handle and draw insane conclusions from it. Mathematics is a system of logic created by "us", so I guess we can't even debate simple things like "2+2 doesn't equal 5" for some reason you have yet to explain (and never will).

  • @bideogames

In general, Ariel Pink has a right to sing without any listeners at all, and just because he likes to do it. And realize that if God has created, so it has a right to exist! I can sing, too, for example, because I so wanted and that you kill me? hahaha

About the tastes of other people do not argue! Did not you know? Or your life is so boring and argue this is your only entertainment.

  • @bideogames SNORE

  • @AliceLoveCode

Even if the guys in the band are the only people that like their music, it's worth it.

  • If you want to check out some more Ariel Pink.. Check out these videos!! - 'Are You Going To Look After My Boys?", 'Politely Decline', 'For Kate I Wait', 'Grey Sunset'. Buy all his albums! They're all great!

  • GO Ariel!!

  • This is musically and optical the biggest Bullshit I´ve seen 4 Years!

The 70ies/80ies are gone,Bowie is still alive so why recreate what many others had done before - but in good...!?

And that gay/androgyne/bored-lookin,wannabe Bowie-Singer!?Awefull - No Voice - No Charisma - no Nothing......like the whole band - just Style like a balloon filled with Hot Air - disgusting!

  • @TheLucius14 first of all, this is not how the band dresses for every performance. it was just this one time. because it's fitting with the vibe of THIS song. on top of that, this is the only Haunted Graffiti song that sounds so reminiscent of the chill-pysch 70's jams. ONE SONG. ON TOP OF THAT, Ariel is extremely androgynous naturally - he's not trying to do anything - just being himself. You have a lot more to learn about the band - I hate saying it but YOU DON'T GET IT.

  • @YouGotScanned :

Ok, I may be have been a bit harsh ´bout that band, but i listened to "Poultry Head" and "Don´t talk to Strangers" and I have to say that it´s still a cheap new Wave/80ies-Rip Of to me, both Songs are sounding totally like "Joy Division" without the Deepness and Suffer that Ian Curtis transported... but maybe this is a generation-thing. coz (maybe, depending on your age) this is a-kind-o new Sound to you, wich it isn´t for me........

  • @TheLucius14 i(not the guy you were arguing with)am in the ninth grade.ive been listening to ariel pink and yeah for me its a new sound,but..i try to listen to"classics"but they just dont hit right the way ariel pink does.and its not because ariel pink is hip so i want to be hip by listening to them because if that was the case,i would like joy division and the beatles, because that gives you street cred and is very hip.i mean pitchfork gave 10's to almost every beatles album.help me.suggestions?

  • @TheLucius14 that's the idea

  • i like the dylan-isc on the bridge....ladeeeee

  • y'all were great on fallon.

  • They've ALWAYS been my favorite band. So glad they were great on Fallon.

  • This already has 7000 views overnight? This band is going to get real big real fast. This is pretty different for lamestreamers.

  • haters gonna hate.

  • Love you, 'lello! I'm really happy for you. You got a great band to do your brilliance justice. So cool. Sounds lovely. I miss you!

  • The performance SOUNDS fantastic, but it's rather aggravating to watch.

  • Hipsterific.

  • y'all were great on fallon

  • fucking wierdos

  • im may be a old fart but I was around in the 70's, and if I heard anyhting like this shit

I'd flush it down the toilet...a friggian group of trannies

  • You hipsters who are all crazy for this shit must be really bored. Nice enough song, but all this chill wave stuff is empty and vapid with no soul. No matter how much Pitchfork tells you to like it.

  • @PJislife ok

  • @PJislife omg! people have different taste in music than you! can you believe it???

  • @LMW87MMA I don't have a problem with different tastes brah. I actually stated that I like the song. I just don't get the infatuation with something that shows no energy, nor passion for what they are playing. Plus, from a live perspective, it's boring. These guys couldn't be more indifferent but I guess that's all part of the schtick that the sheep are buyin'

  • @PJislife shit i dont buy i download for free haha

  • @YouGotScanned People under 30 shouldn't be allowed to give uninformed opinions.

  • @PJislife you're telling me I'm uninformed? Uninformed in what light? Give me a response with substance PLEASE.

  • @PJislife

Nobody should be allowed to give uninformed opinions. Except for old people, because they're special and entitled.

    I mean - what?

  • Ariel's music is certainly not drawing in sheep. What it IS doing is keeping away people like you who can't see the sincerity and passion in it, and instead seem to be looking for...who knows what on stage? There's no need for forced stage antics when your music is this good, and is exploding with this much personality. The music speaks for itself. I personally feel that Ariel is a more passionate front man than anyone I have seen in years - it makes me smile when people can't see it.

  • @YouGotScanned well fucking said..this bleeds passion..reminds me of the cure

  • @papichulo2256

    Cure??????

Comon, I´ve seen "The Cure" nearly 20 Times Life throughout the 80ies/90ies - this comparison is really offending for someone who likes "The Cure" - this "Fast-Food-recycle-Wannabe Stylish-Music" is as deep and worthless as a puddle, when "The Cure" is the Ocean...!

  • @TheLucius14 you may be right, but it doesn't change the fact that i love this song. It just gives me that gothic feel

  • @YouGotScanned

You should see a Doctor - you´re hallucinating!

Passion!?have you ever felt Passion!?I don´t think so, coz otherwise you would not describe this "wannabe" as "a more passionate front man than anyone I have seen in years" - Please!?

This is music 4 people who don´t have any passion 4 music and no Idea that this is just a cheap patchwork of Music your Parents liked....

  • @TheLucius14 again, this is only ONE song. Please go listen to "Don't Talk To Strangers", "Poultry Head", and "The Bottom" and then tell me Ariel's music is just a cheap patchwork of what "my parents liked". Also, please tell me WHO or WHAT Ariel WANTS to be, aside from himself...? I'm very curious! I'd like to hear it.

  • @PJislife Just because you only see it as slightly good doesn't mean that there's no way that someone else could like it a lot more. Also: "sheep"? ... Nice inferiority complex, bro. You're so much more intelligent than them, and everyone is very impressed!

  • @PJislife Ariel Pink is not fucking chillwave, bitch

  • @PJislife but it's 2011 and I don't feel like I have a soul myself. Therefore, this wave is perfect and it's one of the only things I can actually feel. OBVIOUSLY these artists are ON THE SAME PAGE - AND SO ARE A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE

  • @PJislife hahaha you really don't get it. I'll agree that Ariel Pink and his band don't have much energy live, but they're more about doing things in the studio. and addressing what you've said about chillwave, the whole point of it is that it's mellow and chill. it may bore you but that is most likely due to the fact that your attention span cant handle something that mellow and slow. have you ever sang under your breath in a mellow state? it can be beautiful in an interesting way.

  • @PJislife yeah, im a hipster. i love Ariel Pink, Animal collective, Washed out, toro y moi, anything chill wave. i wear tight pants (not allll the time), and i leave my hair tossled so i look like i dont give a fuck. i visit pitchfok regularly too, and i obviously check out their "best new music." but i'm actually really happy with myself and couldnt imagine living my life otherwise.

  • @PJislife pitchfork has given ariel pink a grip of very poor reviews...and one or two good reviews..

  • You hipsters who are all crazy for this shit have no soul. Nice enough song, but all this chill wave stuff is empty and vapid. No matter how much Pitchfork tells you to like it.

  • @PJislife

Pitchfork jumped on the :chillwave" (you used it, not me) bandwagon. Not all people who listen to Toro Y Moi heard them after Pitchfork said it was kool. That says more about you then othert music fans. Gramps.

  • is the bass player a tranny?

  • Finaly Made it!

  • fuckn gay

  • @AlbertTransom

You say that as if it is a bad thing??!!??

  • Amazing. One of my favorite albums of last year.

  • Loving how Questlove is picking his nose

  • how fucking tall is stephen merchant?!!?!

  • @jshank 6'7''

  • If Marty McFly had come to the 2010's and seen this, he would've thought the time jump had failed.

  • Wow, Stephen Merchant! I wanna see this interview.

  • Wow these guys are so talented, but damn do they need to dial back the hipster schtick. I wish I had a dollar for every sequin on that stage

  • Saw this on the TV earlier, it was awesome

Also, when my mom saw them, she asked "Are they a gay band?" rofl

  • stephen merchant and ariel pink shaking hands...fuCKING TRIPPpppy maN!

  • Woo big thanks for audioperv recording this, great performace! A++ + +

  • Ariel is the definition of "too cool for school" ;)

  • omg how could i have missed this last night!!!!!!

  • @darksider7140 I didn't know who they were before I saw this lastnight. At first I was seriously like "what in the fuck?" and after about 1 minute I was like "FUCK YEA!!" It's groovey.....

  • Goddamnit they such so much live.

  • This makes me want to watch television more.

  • I LOVE YOU ARIEL

  • he's been listening to shit loads of elton john.

    pretty awesome.

  • I still don't understand what's so majestic about Ariel Pink guys.

It's literally just rehashed black music from the 70's and early 80's...

  • @Jalkotsu

    Such as...?

i may or may not agree with you.

And while i am here (but unrelated to your comment), i have to say that the way the band is dressed is way too affected.
