Lynching of Laura & Lawrence Nelson. In the event, no one was charged. Among those involved was Charley Guthrie, father of folk singer Woody Guthrie, who was born a yr later. Charley's role is uncertain but he appears 2 have attended as an observer or active participant, and he went on 2 become an enthusiastic member of the Ku Klux Klan. The incident was commemorated by Woody Guthrie in 3 songs, High Balladree, Bloody Poll Tax Chain, & Don't Kill My Baby & My Son, also called Old Dark Town.

Of course he would. He was a self declared communist. He was a talented guy who, like a lot of people both then and now, didn't understand much about the way things really work. He just happened to hit a true note this time, by touting development and progress. Nature is nothing until it's put to use.
Thank god for lime wire,.. I got about 25 songs from Woodie,.. I love the Jesse James song, and the one about the poor minors,... that one makes me cry.
I think its called Goodbye, (the one about the minors),... Its about these minors who are stuck and are gonna die and they know it,.. so they write to there loved ones,.. goodbye sweet people goodbye,.. goodbye sweet children goodbye,......... ....Damn I'm cryin again.
I'm uploading a small piece of it now, a beautifull song, but unfourtunatly utube wont let me upload anything more than 50 seconds long!!! So it should be in my videos in a few minutes... (Woodie Guthrie, The Dying Minor)
I have heard the songs all my life, but never knew the history behind them. Load the family and drive across the country for a chance to work, maybe... What an adventure!
Vladimir Ilyich Lenin wrote, "The electrification of the nation (Russia) is communism." Well, it was the second industrial revolution after steam power:)
Im always wondering what it would of been like then im 26 and i hate the modern world big corperations inslaving the working classes there must be change
And you argue like one. We see this so often where a person's offended by some comment, but has no rational argument to counter it, so he resorts to pedantism. Comments about grammar, spelling and such. Empty.
I'm 25 and I feel the exact same way. After I finished reading Bound for Glory I got depressed because it would be impossible to jump a frieght to ride cross country now a days.
yeah i mean thoos days. It's true that life was harder then. Well atleast we had some contact with our nature, stress related diseases was rare and people was overall more happy.
You can thank America's trial lawyers for the passing of good old America - creating the nanny state. Before long we will have to wear helmets and knee pads even in our houses. And we will only be allowed to eat broccoli - it's all for our own good, ya know!
You can't be 26-years-old. Please tell me you're not. The way you write, you won't have to worry about being anywhere NEAR any corporation. You're a blithering idiot....
No im 27 years old now, i was in a hurry at the time of the previous comment. Had to go to my mundane job, for my idiotic lifestyle. "Blithering idiot"? a little quick to judge i may add. What makes you so superior? I just do not like what the World is becoming.
Man, I feel just like the same. I live in Brazil and can tell you that's all the same shit everywhere around the globe. Dark ages we're living. Technicians ruling the whole world. It's like a nightmare sometimes, and you can never wake up! It may sound pessimistic, but it's just reality as it is. Sure we can have nice moments and stuff. But how can we get free from these balls and chains of meaningless work and lifestyle that creates the empyness we feel?
Its great to know im not alone, i just feel that were all living a lie. How have we got into this mess? And what do we do to change it? These i feel, are the questions of our time. Its going to be a tough few years, but maybe this Economic crash will help us to see what fools weve all been.
