As to devaluation, unless you're talking something more abstract, the US Dollar isn't being printed at a higher rate than it was and the devaluation due to accepting/desiring a slow rate of inflation is reasonably consistent, nothing new recently, and part of long-term monetary policy.

That the Federal Reserve, not to be confused with any Federal government agency, has held it's Discount Rate close to, on occasion equal to, zero is a big part of the catastrophe that is the Credit Market. Did you do any research on this topic before posting or do you simply stick to talking points given by others?

@maskedphrogg A slow, intentional deflation does slowly devalue our currency. This has been intentional (and good) policy since the 70s. That's not what you were talking about, I presume, when you speak of a sudden and recent plummeting of the value of currency as if the government has been attempting to print its way out of the economic downturn. Of course I know how this stuff works - I'm 32, and understanding world and local politics has long been a hobby.

If you have studied these topics then you obviously did not understand what you were reading. Deflating the money supply, removing money from the system, would make the remaining money more valuable not less. This has not been US policy since Nixon unilaterally removed the US from Bretton Woods. Inflation has been the policy and has been greatly detrimental to those who are not first in line to receive new money.

Inflation is not actually so detrimental, both because it has happened at such a slow rate that retirees generally don't see strong effective losses before they die, and because there have been adjustments for it in social security. Further, trying to prevent it would prevent steps to manage the economy that aid in stability. Active management of the money supply to aid stability has long been policy.
