the onion, news source? m.s.m. is dead! universities validating the trustworthiness of news souces.? I.P.A is an ale with lots of hops thrown in to help maintain freshness
Universities professors are biased. Especially sociology departments!!! Allowing them to decide what is true and what is not is insane. But I do support seeking alternative news sources online.
The job of the professors is not to go in an analyze the stories, just to fact check them.
So if the story is that country X bombed country Y, they aren't going to try to find out why, just check to see if country X really did bomb country Y.
I doubt you'll find bias of the kind where a large group of investigative professors and student flat out denies that certain event have happened. But I understand you concern, universities can be pretty scare places when it comes to bias.
Of course university professors are biased. So are you. So am I. Every claim of freedom from bias is false.
Saying certain people "are biased" is about as useful as saying they breathe air and eat food. It's more useful to know whether they are honest and open about their biases.
It's also vital to understand why some people SEEM less biased to us than others. Those who are best at pretending to be neutral are the ones who can most easily deceive us, and lead us to deceive ourselves.
kevintype, great comment. I agree with just about everything you said. Except, I think it's extremely important to point out bias whether it's referring to all human beings or specific groups or individuals. Too many people take biased journalism, education, religion, & historical views as unbiased fact. I believe the bias in all these trusted sources needs to be revealed.
From my experience, most people do not openly identify their biases. Another reason to point it out.
If it's extremely important to point out bias, then it must also be vital to make such allegations useful and verifiable.
What specific bias is the accuser alleging? What evidence supports the charge that such a bias is present? Can that evidence by verified and cross checked? What reason does anyone have to trust the accuser's ability to detect bias, more than their own ability?
If such questions are not answered, no useful purpose is served by generic shotgun allegations of unspecified bias.
I just voiced an opinion. The evidence is available online. They have a linked article on the front page of the Project Censored web site praising Hugo Chavez for socializing Venezuela. Studies by Klein, Cardiff & Stern, found the ratio of registered Democrats vs Republicans among sociology faculty in California to be 44 to 1. Throughout the U.S. in every subject far more faculty voted Democrat than Republican: in sociology 28 to 1, in anthropology 30.2 to 1.
mmmm, independent beer...

Forget blogs and news websites, that's 1990's technology. I get all of my news from tweets from teenaged camgirls and youtube comments.

Truthadvocate, your initial statement was void of content. "Bias" is a meaningless word unless it refers to bias for or against something.
I asked you to fill in that void, which you have now done.
Thank you.
