I think he's trying to show how everyone thinks soldiers knocking down doors and mowing people down is treated like is some 'Godly' mission. It doesn't matter if they did anything or wrong or not, they are just ordered to blow away whoever. Meanwhile some kid who is treated like dirt by his fellow students and opens up on them is portrayed as the ultimate evil.

also that a lot of people do evil in ignorance of belief that it is for a greater good or out of fear. i'm not against soldiers...i salute their bravery and we need people to defend us.. more of the people told under authority from bush to torture detainees in guantanamo, and believing that it was for the good of america, believing a dichotomised, fascist worldview of america being 'good' and all iraqis being terrorists. or the soldiers who shoot haphazardly with no regard for innocent people

Actually American troops are not ordered to "blow away whoever". There are Rules of Engagement which have caused over half of our own soldiers to die. Our troops are subject to court-martial all the time for killing civilians on purpose. We can't fire on ANYBODY until they fire at us. If a civilian is too stupid to run away then it's his fault as we can't tell combatants from non-combatants since they refuse to wear a uniform. It's just war nowadays.

Very very sadly, there ARE times when the US Troops are told to "blow away whoever". Each of those kids/men has to live with that aftewards, for the rest of their life.

This song is one of those bittersweet anthems that celebrates the spirit of America. It may cost us a lot, but dammit, ... Our Country Will Persevere!!!!  (I sure hope we have the right leaders up front)

@xRoGuE71x i completely agree with you...im in the army too so i can verify wat u r sayin is very much true. i lost a close friend because we were ordered not to fire on a group of "civilians". god forbid there is one less flea ridden rag head to shoot a fuckin rpg at the next group of soldiers he sees. if it werent for all those bleeding fuckin hearts that worry more about the taliban rather than the soldiers puttin their lives on the line we wouldnt have lost half as many men. I believe it's a reference to the WW1 or 2 days when nuclear bombing was very much a threat and the school teachers/faculty came up with the infamous "duck and cover" drill to help ease the woes of the students.

It's not messed up that guys can relate to songs. I'm all about the passion, personally I don't know how this song can get to someone's heart emotionally, but more of a symbol of who they are. Girls need to cut guys a break, we're people too, we deserve to be able to express ourselves as well.

I agree. I'm a girl and I don't think that guys should have to bottle up their feelings just so they can be "macho". For me a "macho guy" is a guy that can actually and dares to express their feelings in the current society. Guys have hearts and can feel passion too, it's not only girls.
