  • Really laid back and non-hyper explanation. Thank you.

  • Thanks, this really was helpful. I have set up my webmaster tools where you need to upload meta google gives you into header.php, so I did the same thing with this script not realizing it should go into Footer area.. thanks!

  • Thanks!

  • That was amazing and it worked perfectly!!! I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH!!! That was a greaaat tutorial!!!! :D :D :D

  • Thank you!!!!

  • Thank you very much! This helped me get GA setup on my wordpress site. I really appreciate this video, it was getting very annoying getting this to work. Thanks again!

  • The "editor" link under Appearance is not presente... Where can I find it or enter the editor mode?

  • This was helpful. I had to wade through a bunch of videos telling me to install a plugin... seriously? I had done this before, so I knew it was a pretty easy cut and paste just wanted to make sure I was doing it right. No reason to install a plugin over this.

  • @bendonahower I agree. No real reason for a plugin other then the simplicity of maybe monitoring things from your dashboard.

  • Thank YOU!

  • @LightningStrikeTech You got it!

  • Awesome. You're welcome.

  • Thank you!! I just used your video to set up Google Analytics on my website!!

  • You're welcome everyone. It's my pleasure. Don't forget to sign up for my new YouTube channel which I'll be updating much more frequently:

  • very helpful video. thanks!

  • Thanks, that was very helpful and it worked!

  • Thank You - I was tearing my hair out!

  • Very helpful!! Thank you for making this video :))

  • Very nice. After hunting around all over the place trying to figure out how to do this without any plugins or having to FTP into my site, and knowing nothing about PHP, your video quickly showed me how to do this. Great job!

  • very useful! thanks!

  • You got it!

  • Thank you!

  • Thanks man

  • That area still shows in the latest version of WP. Trust me, I have like 6 or 7 WordPress sites all up to date.

Your alternative then is to log into your File Manager (web hosting account) and navigate to your /wp-content/themes/your-theme-your-using and edit the footer.php file.

  • I dont have editor under appearances either. The closest thing is "Edit CSS" but that page doesn't show the footer.php part. Maybe Wp has changed a little since this vid was made ('09). Any tips?

  • Every WordPress site has an Editor. I'm not sure what's going on there. Can you take a screen shot of what you're seeing and send me the link to view the image?

  • @WpBlogHost Can you please provide an email address for me to send my screen shot link to?

  • @WpBlogHost I can't find the Editor. I think it just because WordPress is hosting my blog. Is it right?

  • @arnika84 Yeah if you're hosting your blog on WordPress then you are stuck with what they have. In that case, you might look for a plugin.

  • @WpBlogHost Maybe this a good reason for changing the host. I have no idea how complicated it could be to host a blog by myself. I like that all the spam comments are cached and that makes me feel safe.

  • I don't have editor under appearances. What am I doing wrong?

  • Sure thing. If you want to learn more, make sure to sign up for the notification when I launch Blog Training Classroom.

  • The video was a great help! Thanks!!

  • No problem. Thanks for the comment.

  • Many thanks for this it was a real help, great tutorial and video was spot on too

  • @MurrTuck @Hugsafety - Thanks for stopping by an leaving a comment. Glad I was able to help.

  • Thank you for actually going step by step through this. Other videos we have seen don't explain how to get to some of the menus when it comes to the coding.

  • This is Perfect! Thank you so much.

  • Yes, it sure does.

  • is this still work with new version wordpress?

  • Of course. No problem.

  • Thanks for the tutorial!

  • Sure thing. Thanks for commenting.

  • Awesome Video, Thank you for going slow and explaining everything. Great Video!

    Thank you,

  • Hmmm... Without digging into it, it's hard to say exactly what the problem is. Maybe contact your Theme's developer and ask them that question. They can probably help.

  • great video. with you all the way up until the end...

my wp blog doesnt have an 'update file' button.

    instead it says:

"You need to make this file writable before you can save your changes. See the Codex for more information."

    Please help

  • Thanks everyone for your comments. It's my pleasure.

  • Thanks the video was great... easy to follow, your instructions were clear and uncomplicated.

  • Excellent video, helpful? You Bet!

Muchias Gracious, the plugin I tried for analytics did,'t work and I like the idea of keeping wordpress as basic as possible for faster load time.

    Thank you very much!

  • Thank you sir. Good job.

  • lol.. your voice sounds like a young Bob Ross.. awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • @capriet Have you found it yet? This is pretty standard in WordPress.

  • ok so I did this easily - thanks for the clear instructions.

    Error still showing though :(

should this kick in straight away or does it take time to get going?

  • that was very helpful, I tried to get my wordpress guy to install it and he couldnt

do you create wordpress blogs for people?

  • Awesome! Thanks!!

  • @themaker03 No problem. Thanks for watching.

  • Thank you for this simple, yet important tutorial! Very helpful!

  • @Cometotheedgetoday My pleasure. You're welcome.

  • Thank you for this simple, yet important video....very helpful!

  • Excellent video... Thankyou

  • thank you

  • i can't update my footer.php. there are no button update:(

  • @kachala If you're doing it through your WordPress Dashboard then the button should be just below the text area. If for some odd reason it's not there, you can always log into your web hosting File Manager and use the file editor there to edit and save the file.

  • @WpBlogHost thanks, i put code of analytic to footer.php from my hosting.

  • where do you hide it? :-)

  • Check my videos. There's one labeled how to set up a Google Analytics video. I tried to leave a link in the comment area but I think it's getting rejected.

  • @WpBlogHost you can't add links in comment..

But if the link that you want to leave here is your own video, you can post that as a video response..

Click on the "post a video response" and select your video.

  • Thanks, fourblogger.

The reason for the links is that I embed these videos into a blog post and it's that blog post which often times has the copy/paste code people will need which is shown in the video.

I now have been trying to leave a link to the main article in the video's description above.

  • @WpBlogHost Thanks for reply.

  • Sorry, I meant a "Google Analytics Filter Video"

  • Very very nice, finally I could do it :-)

  • Very cool and congratulations on the success! Glad I was able to help. Make sure to watch the video on how to create a Google Analytics filter so you don't track your own movements and clicks.

  • Excellent instructions!

    Very helpful.

    Thank you for helping.

  • I registered a blogger today (2009.4.16), I don't see Editor under Appearance either, I don't see Manage and then Design.

    Where should I go? Thanks.

  • Hi caliopelna20. If you're referring to the editor which allows you to edit your WordPress files (like the footer.php file), it's there.

In WordPress 2.7 and above, you'll find it in the left sidebar under Appearance. If you're using an earlier version of WP then you'd go to Manage and then Design.

  • they have removed "editor" right ? because i can't find it

  • My pleasure nirothambipillay. Thanks for the comment.

  • Nice. Really simple guide and easy to follow. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks naveenjoin.

Don't forget you can create a filter to filter out visits to your website from you. I'll upload a video on how to do it soon.

  • nice guide
