Hephaestus was a Greek god whose Roman equivalent was Vulcan. He is the son of Zeus and Hera, the King and Queen of the Gods (or perhaps of Hera alone). He was the god of technology, blacksmiths, craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, metals, metallurgy, fire, and volcanoes. Like other mythic smiths but unlike most other gods, Hephaestus was lame, which gave him a grotesque appearance in Greek eyes.

Cool. It's a fun game, but I vehemently disagree with their story and interpretations of the Gods. But thankfully, mythology is supposed to be reinterpreted by a variety of storytellers and as long as people are doing that, I'm happy. :)

I think of it as fantasy only loosely based on existing mythology, so all the inaccuracies and god killing don't bother me at all.

The Olympians in God of War are seemingly depicted as being fascistic and petty. And their comptemptous disregard for Kratos' ascention to diety reminded me alot of old monied socialites of the early 20th century who treated newly minted first generation entreprenuers with disdain.
