  • my best friend had a 1944 ford jeep and my neighbor had a 1942 Willys Jeep. The only way you could tell them apart was a stamp or markings in the frame.

I even had the army repair manual for the Jeep, it was a reprint and we often used it. Parts were the same for each one...

  • yo te digo y soy de venezuela que a amo a los jeep

  • Nice

  • the new jeep is a luxury car. The old Jeep is friggin BADASS

  • these new things we call jeeps aint nothin compared to these

  • At the beginning of this old film is definitely the American Austin's Bantam BRC 40 and 60 in its early testing as well as the old pick at 0:15 . Willys MB and Ford GP (Government Pygmy) based on this Bantam's reconnaissance car. Read the Bantam story - the net is full of information.. and there seems to be even more disinformation including Utube as it concerns the Bantam which is "the mother of jeeps."

  • My respects for the Willys Jeep!, I'm so proud of to own the early Mb such as the M38A1 that I left them back home!.

  • @ 0:48 for some reason the airbag didn't came out...

  • @pablof59 did they have airbags back then????

  • @patwwe nooooo!!!!

  • @pudgeya1 lol imaginary airbag!

  • love this little beast wish i own 1

  • End over end and the willys makes it!

  • what i wouldnt give for an old willys jeep.

  • jeeps coming back to the military

they are replacing the hummers thank god

  • ITS A WILLYS U IDIOT

  • its a willy's jeep

    i love those

  • Jeep comes from GP. General Purpose vehicle, shortend GP.

when you say GP, you say ''geepee'', and that changed into ''jeep''

  • @3DPeter Not true. Do your home work.

  • Music from the Rat Patrol, very appropriate.

  • You think the guy at 0:48 had some broken teeth? Those steering wheels don't budge at all. Ouch!!

  • what size tyres are on that jeep? they are far wider than the originals. also if you look up in the manual theres a measurement listed for the distance from the top of the windscreen to the back of the body. yours is leaning back far to much. cheers.

  • I love the cartoon at 1:35

  • 0:47 XD

  • its not a jeep its a ford

  • Not sure what that meant, but yes, while Ford was a backup supplier to Willys, there are quite possibly Ford assembled "jeeps" in this video, as well as slat grilles and Bantam's.

  • They are all jeeps as it is a nickname.

  • @maxsmodels they are ford, amc, wathever you want, but before all they are jeep

  • @maxsmodels jeeps arent a nickname.... willys made the actual jeep nd ford made ther "gp" <eventually willys sold jeep 2 kaiser motors, then kaiser sold jeep 2 amc and then amc was bought out by chrysler and then fiat bought out chrysler

  • @skoalmopar the word jeep comes from "gp" it sounds out as jeep, so different spelling but same sounding

  • @dnohl75 That is one of many theories. Some say it is from the character geep in the old comics. Another says it was called the peep which got morphed into jeep. In reality, no one really knows.

  • @dnohl75 not true do some more research

  • @maxsmodels

I do not speak German, this is a translator so I apologize for the bad syntax.

  • @TeamWhipers same thing, some of them were called ford gpw's because they were all produced by a deal between willy's overland and ford, but even being a ford it's a pure jeep

  • @TeamWhipers During the war "Willys-Overland" and Ford both made the Jeep.

  • @TeamWhipers well they where all called GPs but GIs started saying it in like a slang way and making it sound like Jeep then jhon north willys caught on to that and filed for the patent name of Jeep

  • @TeamWhipers why would you say its a ford ford made them for a very very short period of time and made very few of the willys jeep the main companies that made them were willys overland and american bantam car company

  • My '46 does 70mph pretty easily. By the way, 0:49 ouch!

  • The '46 has a fourth gear (T-90 tranny as I recall) along with manyother improvements. My MB had 3 gears. Also she is a bit unstable muc faster than 45. My speedo crappe out so I may have had bad reading.

Sadly I had to sell her a while back

    LONG LIVE THE JEEP!

  • My CJ2A is a 3 speed and feels just fine at 65 mph.

And 0:48 ouch still. Probably killed him.

  • well i think jeep came after the war because jeep is owned by chysler and why would ford help chrysler if theyre competitors

  • You don't need to wonder about "Jeep" or "GP" and Willys, Bantam, Ford and Chrysler. Look it up on Wiki. Jeep was Jeep LONG before Chrysler bought it in the 70's. Do some home work, don't just guess.

  • Ummm... Not sure but I think Jeep was bought in the late 80's b/c my old Cherokee is and '87 made by AMC

  • Have you ever heard the term "Google it"? Kaiser bought Willys-Overland and changed name to Willys Motor Company in 1953. That was the first buy-out. Google it.

  • your an idiot.. jeep was a nickname long before it was a car company. the vehicles in this video are the first vehicles to ever be called the name"jeep"

  • Top speed... i run my '44 MB easy over 55 MPH

wheels should be good balanced though

  • what is the top speed of these?

  • 0:48 that sucks, probably killed em

  • Nice tribute to a real legend!

  • este es el vehiculo de mis sueños ese video lo tengo

  • Jeep= American Icon

  • >>>its a good thing the GPV won that army competition for small armed vehicle...It's crazy that Ford built the bulk of these Jeeps for WW2...

I'm a huge fan of Jeeps though...never owned one, but am thinking of getting one as a winter vehicle since my summer ride is stored that season

    ...Nice video btw

  • Bantam had the winning design but not the manufactoring facilities. Ford made about a quarter. Willy Overland made about 3/4s of them at the Toledo OH facility. I recommend a post war CJ-2 for a daily driver or winter car. 4 spd tranny and a few other mods. Mostly the same though.

  • By far one of the best videos ever!

  • I wish cars were made that rugged still.

  • jeep is the best car ever

  • yeah it is

  • whats the different between MB and CJ2. Tougher spring, floating axle???????? HP

  • grille style , lower gearing in the trans. and a couple of other non-military things. both used the same motor with the same output 60hp ( i have 2 that run and 2 that are parts donors in the back of the garage) really no extreme changes were made between the them

  • i just picked up a 50cj3, and painted it olive green. saved me about $8000.

  • who else thinks 0:49 was a fatality?

  • me!

  • me to! :D lol

  • My daily driver for the last 10 years has been a 1948 CJ-2A.

As a kid I always wanted an old flat fender. I love that old Jeep. Fires up every day and never lets me down.

I joke around and say that it has a 5 star death rating but haven't gotten killed yet....LOL

It was an essential part of winning the war but I bet a whole bunch of people died driving and riding in those jeeps during WW2.

  • Yes it was and yes they did. As you know by now, if you drive it with respect you should be fine.

  • No, I don't think it was. I've got an original 16mm copy of that incident, with extra running time as the jeep falls flat on it's 'roof'. In one blurred frame you can see the driver twisting his body out of the seat towards the outside, with his arm out. I think he would have broken his legs or pelvis, though.

  • Thanks for the info

  • Thanks for this tribute maxmodels jeep the best of the best

  • 10-4

  • dude ur jeep is bad ass

i want a set of militarys for mine.

but why the bald ass baby 9 for the spare?

  • I wanna party with him

  • aah i want an old willys mb so bad! lol good job

  • they be fun

  • Nice. Jeeps have such an heroic proud history. I love them.

  • me too!

  • Hey Max, by the way that is an awesome restored Willys. I have an extreme modified 05 Rubicon but would love to own the original legend. Also, I linked up your vid to my Jeep tribute website on my external vid page. I can't post the url here but do a google search for jeep4ever and it should be the first one you find.

  • cool!

  • Just signed up on YouTube tonight. Yours is the first video I've saved. GREAT music. And I have a '45 Willys MB, so this video is ESPECIALLY great. Thanks.

  • that is great! Max

  • Hey Max,

thanks for Bringing back some Great Memories with You Tribute to the JEEP and Picking the Right Theme Song, from the RAT PATROL! Stay Cool!

  • My pleasure.

  • I use to have a book called "The Indestructible Jeep" many years ago and there was a picture of a Willys on rails pulling boxcars! Is this book stil avaliable?

  • Unknown but you can still finds volumes 1 & 2 of "All American Wonder".

  • In the midle of the video, what happen to the guy that flip over with the jeep? Is he dead? There was no roll bar.

  • Unknown but it was bad. I have never been able to get any details.

  • Fuck the Hummer, gimme a Willys instead!

  • Me too! thanks, Max

  • great video

    that them brings back memories

i heard they are making a Rat Patrol movie

  • Thanks

  • Sums up the jeep in a nutshell, and the visual allegory between then and now. Your star is 'by the book' too - well done.

  • Thanks

  • I second that. Sums up the legendary Jeep very nicely, indeed, and the "Rat Patrol Theme" really adds a wonderful touch to this. Thanks!

  • Thank you!

  • Nice work. I like the bantams in the begining.

  • Thank you, Max
