Oooooh, tank looks great and so do the fish, but I'm afraid neither the substrate nor the tank mates are suitable; they have no scales so coarser gravel *could* harm it, especially if it tries to burrow. Another thing, dragons are brackish and cannot thrive for a long time in fully freshwater, whereas peacock eels are freshwater and require somewhat different parameters. Try to make it work for the critters too :).
@FckThWrld88 the question is will the fire eel mess with the dragon, the dragon goby is pretty peaceful so if there is enough surface on the bottom of the tank for the to swim they should be fine
@rkon1000 the bloodworms sink i doubt they would eat anything that floats. i dont even know how mine are still alive ive had them for 2 months and never seen them eat
Help please I made the mistake of buying one with out reasurch I have him in a 20 gallon tank Wichita will have to do and fresh water it's been two days seams to be doing fine but realy woried about him keps seining to top to gulp air and trys to jump out do I need to change to brakish water his with a molybdenum and a plecostomus
@Stark1124 Dont worry about it that species is basically blind hes just exploring in the wild they sift through mud to find food and if u feed them flakes it will fall to the bottom and degenerate and they find the flakes that have been sitting there AMAZING your a good owner dont worry about it but you might want to move him to a 30 gallon tank
brackish water is slightly salty. It occurs naturally in estuaries where the ocean washes up back into the river. The salt naturally increases and decreases, which is a good thing because salt-water parasites are killed by fresh water, and fresh water parasites are killed by the salt.
In your tank, bring the salt level up and down slowly every couple of months to simulate the natural environment and ensure healthy fish.
no, not at all. They are practically blind, so they can't catch anything. They should have sand, not gravel, to filter their food, which mainly consists of frozen blood worms and black worms. They will filter veggie flakes.
Gobies are badass looking. I was gunna get a peacock eel but they are more expensive and always hide...and the fact that dragon gobies are blind is a cool conversation starter! lol
Yeah, we got him last week, he's doing fine. We've had a freshwater tank with mollies, but now that the Goby's in there we've started converting to brackish. Any suggestion on how fast we can raise the salinity? I know the gobies are pretty hardy and can handle salinity changes since they live in the estuaries, but is a speedier transition going to be hard on the mollies?
I would suggest from fresh to the salinity best for gobies, about 3-4 weeks. But it can be done quicker, and I don't think it would hurt the Molliles.
wow i have two of my own dragon gobys, there about ten inches long an i house them with my new bichir. since there about the same size they dont mind each other and follow each other around
wow, if u didnt know, tetras are also known as "feeder fish" in the gobies eyes, that said, i think its amazing how ur eel can swim, mine is fat & lazy so he goes straight up for 2 seconds and falls back down. And pellets r da best food for the gobies, first they eat alot, then get too fat -_-
hey i just got 2 of these dragon gobys about 1 day ago, can any one tell me if they eat fish flakes or pelleted food beacause they dont relly seem to eat. is there another type of food i feed them, beacuse they seem to refuse to eat.
You can, but not for its whole life. They move naturally between fresh, brackish, and even saltwater, so they have to be very tolerant, but eventually, they need brackish water. Not having it makes it difficult to osmoregulate, and the immune system becomes weaker. In this weakened state, they are prone to diseases like red tumors that kill them.

Most likely they hide from the light because they are nocturnal. Morons.
xquailx801 11 months ago
do you need light because my dragon fish hated light he always hide until i turned it off it swam and ate

I had one of these ten years or more ago. He just dug a hiding space in the rubble all the time.

mine jumped out...lots
TheFish8431 2 years ago
@Stark1124
The gulping at the top and trying to jump may be a sign that the ammonia levels are too high. They are particularly sensitive to ammonia.

what is "specific gravity"?
lebenonbong 2 years ago
Specific gravity is just the measurement for how much salt is in the water. The higher the specific gravity, the saltier the water is. :)

Trumpet210: Ok good I'm glad you've done your research and know 20 dragon gobies have to die for the petshop to be able to provide ONE for you.
Good stuff...
As long as you know. Cuz I feel really bad about buying mine but he's fortunately healthy and so was the other one that lived with him in the tank.
Good luck

well most fish don't eat right after they've been put into a new tank, and dragon gobys only eat meaty foods. try frozen blood worms
