We use a trace called a slider, its a weighted non return clip which takes your bait out, or we cast a throw bait!!!

We use slide rigs, its a 100% south african, we slide baits into the water. Rods 14ft HMG rods, line - 45lb 0.55mm, steel trace normally 200lb, 1mm leader, 2 x 10/o hooks, braid backing on the reels - 45lb. Reels used daiwa saltiga, or saltists, Shimano torium or trinidads, most common reels!

Live or dead,depends,You could use a small sized smooth hound or spotted gully shark for live bait.Most of the time the bait all dead bait, but mullets can be caught in throw nets and used live.we use a took hook trace, so if i were to hook a live bait,i'd put one on top maybe inline with the dorsal fin or just next to it and then one through the top lip.

If i am using a one hook trace,then i'll put the hook through the mouth,just the tip lip though,so the fish can still breath!

The meat of these big sharks and rays doesn't taste very good, so everything gets released. this is all done for the sport and for the thrill of the fight. However if i catch an edible fish it goes straight into the pan.
