@KoV3a go by dreadlockssite read dreaducation but u can pull it back however the more u do the slower it will dread and the more u will have to seperate to prevent a ponydread (1 dread) wash 1-3 times a week use either the baking soda no touch soak or a dread soap only scrub the scalp not hair rinse thru the hair only and air dry if u can the less rubbing and touching the better yours should dread crazy fast so seperate often! and it will shrink alot in the process
@KoV3a no they love getting wet but u need to make sure they dry completely between if they stay damp in the core for days u got trouble also never tie wrap or put in a hat wet or damp when damp they must be loose for airflow to get around em, and dreads try to join together or congo at the roots so u have to sepewrater by pulling 2 dreads away from eacghother breaking the connecting hairs at the roots early on u must often as they mature continued:
@KoV3a continued from last comment: far les shrinkage varies but long hair shrinks most drasticly short hair less typical is 1/2 to 1/3 the length left when fully shrunk tho some can shrink from hips to ears! real drastic but when shrinkage stops its all pure growth and no trimming so it regains length faster

@shadowfindley1 natural will work if your hairs long enough anmd u use the right washing and drying techniques and arent uinterfering in the process
sometimes it takes longer then 2 months but now we have a new gel coming out any day now that will help u lock in a hurry naturaly but if u tnr just randomize as much as u can
hey cool vid dude. i m also thinkin of gettin natural dreadlocks i have like straight hair but really thick i just want to get this straight. so is my hair gonna form dreadlocks if i just don't do nothin to it no combing etc i have started doin that for a month now and i wash my hair once a week with no soap or anything goin all natural. how long do u think its gonna take for my dreads to form like now i see no progress so i kida get frustrated and rub hair with my palm. m i on da right track ?
@Kingbruno238 u say your washing with no soap are u using water only u still want to wash tho the way you wash and dry can affect ot so can what u wash with also sea salt sprays and beads help allot ..how longs the hair too
@iriesoaringeagle yeah im only washing with water nd my hair is not that long like the front part like comes to my eyes the sides are even shorter cause i had a mohawk before. thanks for the reply man i subscribed to ur website its cool.
@Kingbruno238 id try the bakling soda soak or a dreadsoap waters not gonna do the tricjk but u also need more length! it might dread shorter but typicaly 6 inches is the magic numbrr
@nopeekingjon use a non residue soap or the baking soda deep cleanse i love dreadlockshampoo . com soaps i wouldnt uese any ol bar soap they leave too much soap scum residue on dreadlockssite , com theres a washing guide with tips
@NaitsHDFTW ofcourse not when you cut dreads you go through a profound dread loss depression a dulling of the senses a real deep sense of loss and you are bound to dread again within a year these will stay right where they are till the grave
@NaitsHDFTW nope not a bit why would they? ofcourse if you used wax or crochet and you had to do maintenancve all the time and constantly fuss over every loose hair yea theyd get annoying but when u dont gotta do s thing but wash em irs just pure pleasure
it is called battery, not assault. assault is the threat of violence that causes reasonable fear or apprehension...battery is the actual unwanted and/or rude physical contact...
@checkur20 actualy your wrong battery is physicaly beatting assault is any unwanted contact including forced hair cutting and if you dared try that you'd be in for a hell of alotta trouble
@iriesoaringeagle actually, i'm a deputy in the state of kansas and have my degree in criminology...i know the statute differences between assault and battery. lol.
@checkur20 a deputy that says they will break into my house and forcibly shave my head? nce to know so whats your name and badge number i'll have you fired by monday
@mrbenjaminvincent jails cannot force you to cut if you claim a spiritual reason for dreading there were hundreds of court cases in fact peltier had a sweat lodge built at his jail they cannot stop you from your own personal spiritual journey you could sue the jail for cutting them
@iriesoaringeagle dude, go smoke some pot and mellow..i won't tell i promise.
get me fired? really? c'mon man, let's be realistic why would my dept. fire me for saying an obviously hilarious and frivolous comment to a dude who's name and address i don't know and have never met? do you know how many "i'll have you fired" threats i have had?...this week? rofl...you are pretty funny man.
my name over youtube? i don't think so. my badge however is #308...have fun!
@checkur20 ok so now your profilling assumming i smoke pot maybe ppl are telling you they will have u fired for a reason cause u should be so what police department are u in? ive had cops fired over so called jokes pointing lazer pointers at crowds of ppl drumming as an examople and you too will be fired because you desserve to be so what district whats yor supervisors number?
@checkur20 i just hope when you do get fired you dont add hasrrassment charges to the list..i know you think you should be an asshole to be a cop but cops are meant to serve and protect not harrass and annoy remember you are a public servant you work for the public which means you are expected to act respectable and abide by a code of conduct that does not include harrassing people online and acting childish
@checkur20 odviosly you are either you are impersonating a cop or you think your above the law the continued unwanted contact is harassment you dont know when to stop do you? keep it up maybe you should look up the meaning of the word evidence while your at it cause all your doing is providing more dont you guys say you have the right to remain silent all the time? and anything you do say can and will be used against you? maybe you should excersize your right to be silent now
@iriesoaringeagle i believe you are referencing the fifth amendment in the the bill of rights and the Miranda v Arizona disposition in the wrong context. it relates mostly to interrogation.
anyways, if you look, you have been asking me questions, you never once asked me to stop talking to you. all you wrote were threats about calling my work and getting me fired and breaking my arms, and harrasment charges. what did i do? i made a funny comment that got thumbs up. i never made you respond to me
@checkur20 you fucking idiot if the last comment wasnt a request to shut the fuck up and stop harassing me i dont know what is it was not a funny comment it was conspiracy to commit assault it is illegal to say i am going to kill you is it not thats conspiracy to commit murder your statement crossed all ethical lines and you are continuing to harrass and bother me so shut the fuck up leave me the fuck alone you are not as funny as you think you are you are an annoying asshole
@checkur20 impersonating an officer is a serious crime i suspected when you spelled the county wrong, but when speaking with the sheriff he tells me that badge number matches nobody in the county so your now under investigation
What length hair would you recommend for starting dreads, and how did you start them? Did you palm roll them or did they just happen? I really want to get dreads but I ma not sure how to do it, I would love to do it naturally without having to buy all these combs and shampoos and waxes etc... Any advice would be much appreciated.
@UniversalTruths waxes are a scam and a massive mistake just dont comb or condition hair dreads itself no palm rolling no nothing its as easy as doing nothing but washing u do want a dread friendly soap i recomend dreadlockshampoo . com and read all u can on dreadlockssite . com
@UniversalTruths technicaly corect answer is both it sections itself b4 it dreads and starts dreading in sections but then they can eat eachother and combine into bigger dreads so need to seperate em often as they dread..any method will tend to try to combine and need to be seperated so seperate while wet and your fine
would u recommend covering your hair in a beanie cap throughout the day because i heard that the fibers make the loose hairs contract into the other dreads
@CTClife21 looser tam would be better the wool fibres help it knot but u want also to leave em free as much to move if u wear he hat all the time it will slow things and will encourage congos so youfd need to eperate way more often wear a wool tam when u want to leave em free when u want to ballance if you do it all the time it defeats the purpose and tams give some compression without restricting movement too much..
@iriesoaringeagle ok cool. i got another question for you also. Im using the sea salt spray and i realized when i run my hands thru my hair, the my hair, not my scalp, is dry. I just oiled my scalp and hair yesterday, any suggestions
@CTClife21 thats the purpose of sea salt sprays it dries out the hair so it dreads faster oils make it slippery and dread slower however african hair doesnt transfer oils from scalp to hair so the scalp and hair is extra dry and brittle faster dreading u want it lil dry but not to the point of brittle dont run hands through tho that will slow progress even prevent it if freeforming
@CTClife21 no actualy its how gullible you are how much of a newwb no dreadhead whos had dreads b4 would ever use wax cause most had to start over diue to wax wax is a dread killer its the number 1 cause of dreads being cut its a scam basicly they dread much better without wax and last a hell of alot longer and arent so gross
@iriesoaringeagle 1ST NO IM NOT A NEWB, BEN HAD DREADS AND CUT THEM OFF 2 YEARS AGO. N 2ND IVE SEEN PEOPLE WHO HAVE STARTED THEIR DREADS WITH BEESWAX AND ITS TO THEIR BACK. AND I DONT SEE ANY BUILD UP IN IT LIKE U CLAIM IN UR VID
@CTClife21 cut them open can you see inside them? the buildups inside them and trust m e its there if u used waxx you should start over or else spend months removing wax ands never be sure u got it all out wax repels water how can it wash out? ofcourse it builds up
@iriesoaringeagle MY APOLOGIES JUST GOT OFFENEDED IS ALL. I'M DOIN THE RUB METHOD BUT MY HAIR TEXTURE IS JUST SOFT EVEN DOUH IM AFRICAN AMERICAN. MY HAIR JUST HAS A HARD TIME HOLDING IS ALL. AND I DNT KNO ANY OTHER WAY TO GET IT TO HOLD. IMA STOP USING THE WAX AND JUS KEEP IT NATURAL WITH OILS N WASHING MY H
@CTClife21 the rub method just creates a knotty mess that then has to be ripped into sections anything that holds prevents the movement needed to dread if you get the wax out then do nothing it will drezad oils should be limmited to moisturizing a dry scalp only as needed the less oiuls the faster it locks
I just began combing my twist and rip dreads out. I'm about half way done and i'm very excited to start a completely natural journey. I think my hair is going to dread up nice because ever since i started combing it again to get my locks out the hairs that are no longer dreaded keep starting to dread again at the roots without my assistance. Now to complete the chore of getting the rest out so I can begin this journey. Any tips on how to easily get the rest out?
@manson435 loads of conditioner or olive oil and be very gentle it takes longer to be gentle but the hair will be in better shape and u lose alot less
About 2 years ago i did really c the diffence between natural & salon. just that salon is more neater. so i looked into it and they wanted to charge me $800+8hrs of work. i didnt want to do that so i let my cousin do it when she came for a visit but never end up doing it. i was mad a 1st but then i looked into it more and saw this and changed everything. Thankyou for not letting me use wax. im currently 6 months natural and so far very satisfied. & they probably would have been cut due to wax.
your dreads are amazing. i dont think i would ever want them that long but they look awesome. a tribute for those everywhere who want dreads without product. i plan on back combing mine and maybe crochet hooking them to start them out but thats about it.
@iriesoaringeagle im not using an actual crochet hook, what im using is a nifty tool from dreadheadHQ which is (reputably) good from what ive heard and if used carefully the hair is fine although its not recommended for multiple uses, its a miniature hook, big enough to grab about 10 hairs at a time but not an actual crochet hook. its a one time use to help my hair knot up quicker, hopefully it goes well. but no wax and nothing else after that start. going natural from there
@exohduss dont! it will not be fine and oit will make them take 6 months longer!
after u do that they hsave to loosen up alot to dread right its a horible mistake and everty single thing dreadheadhq recomends is harmful and wrong send it back never crochet your dreads it will backfire making them take way longer and be way messier during the recovery
@AlbertaZanoah should be? what determines what my locks should be? they are what they are as nature made them so isnt that exactly what they should be?
@Marleyites what are u doing to "work at them" chances are thats preventing them from dreading dont work on them allow them to happen itr wants to lock up if u just let it so tell me everything u do and have used
@iriesoaringeagle thanks for the reply, eagle. I tie the hair in a silk scarf or wool headband during the day, sometimes at night, but usually at night, just free hair on the pillow. use dr bronner's soap once a week, just water between times in shower. nothing else. no twisting or brushing or combing. Not even any separating as no congos have formed. do have sections, though. hair is very thick, wavy, 4 - 6" long, some grey hairs, well, alot really.
@Marleyites are u african american? or not? if not lil more length will help alot and how long ya been at it? sea salt sprays or soaks help also its not just what u wash with but how u wash and dry that can make a difference
@iriesoaringeagle African at heart as I follow the teachings of His Imperial Majesty, Haile Selassie I the First, King of Kings, Rastafari. I don't dry, just dab with towel after shower. washing is minimal affair, just squirt a little soap, squeeze it thru, shower spray rinses out. it's been about 6 or 8 months now. maybe going back to baking soda rinse will help as well?
@Marleyites yea the baking soda should help or when u use bronners dont squeeze it thru only worry bout the scalp not the hair gently wash the scalp with fingertips then rinse thru ..does bronners leave a sticky feeling if so tey dreadlockshampoo com the lockin up liquids great for hard to dread hair the bars pure bliss on locked up dreads
Dude you have incredible hair and have convinced me to steer clear of wax and products, and recognise the damage they cause. I'm just about to start the dreadlock journey, you have been a great inspiration. Thank you!
@iriesoaringeagle i want to backcomb. i would do the all natural method but i feel that i'm reaching a new point in my life, and that getting dreadlocks is the first milestone as it were. would you consider backcombing to be excessively damaging?
@HighBrowHobo fairly danmaging not excessive but the hairs cuticles are permenantly pried open and damaged twist and rips a better option but naturals definately best and if its a milestone then id make the most of it and go natural
@iriesoaringeagle cool, i'll bear that in mind. i have long, thick and strong hair, so i think it should be fairly resilient, but even so once its backcombed i'll leave it alone. Thanks again
@HighBrowHobo hair strength dont matter the act of combing backwarsds always damages the cuticles permenantly and twist and rips a way better method looks way better too so you dont look like sideshow bob for weeks..id never recomend backcombing tho i dont warn against it like crochet its just a poor method that fails too often so is not worth the damage it causes
@SpeekerHed40 on average very lil if any some do take longer its only apparent in the 1st weeks or month or 2 the diference tnr will look like something happened vernivbght then loosen for awhile while the neglects knotting and typicaly at the 3 mionth mark they are about the same.. ofcourse it varies alot
@dubbedcrazy yea i think thats about right well left sides c5 6 i think rights c7-t1 and its the a6 its actualy invacare bought colors in motion it is my everyday 1 but i have it set up for offroad usualy everything quick release tho so its easy to change it around i preffer the offroad settings everyday unless i need to get into tight spaces
@TwoBlueD i live but i run a few websites more of a passion then a living lifes about the living not what you do for the privileged of living s so i enjoy life to the max
I guess dreads are the way our hair would look back when we were cave people, eh? Seems weird that we're the only animal that has hair that grows this way. I like your beard as well. :)
@Trips1103 As to what OP said, you know the ''mop dogs?'' Not completely sure of the name, but every time I've seen one outside of a dog show their hair's been dreadlocked and I'm sure no owner would go through doing that on a dog xD I guess it's just hair's natural way to not get so tangled up or something. Who knows?
@Trips1103 i dunno dude..some of my dogs started growing dreads once when i was away and the my mother was 2 affraid of them to keep them at her place ..my uncle came to stay at my place to keep an eye on them let them outside and as luck often happens got into a car wreck by the time i got home some days later they still had food and water, but it had rained my god the knots were horrendous..my chow chow and 2 shih tzu all knotted ..the only ones not matted was my rotie and mastiff
You sir are my biggest influence for dreads! I twist and ripped some of mine but then learned of natural dreads and let the rest of my hair dread naturally. I can definitely tell which ones are natural compared to the twist and rip. I was always very OCD about my loose hairs until I watched your videos. And, I can say that all of my loose hairs are beginning to dread now. I use zero maintenance with my dreads now and I tam them up as much as possible. Thank you for opening my eyes.
@manson435 well glad i could guide u in the right direction ;) when i dreaded i never heard of any way but the natural way and almost everyone i knew with dreads got em by spending time in the woods
hey thanks for getting back to me so quick and you seem like a cool dude. and for me nothing seems to happen quick cause im so friken compulsive lol but yeah so you said you help inbox me how i can go about getting help and direct me where to go thanks (GURU) dude.

And how do i shower, and how many times a week?
Ill really appreciate it if you help me out with these questions and some tips that can help me out to, thanks.

hey cool vid dude. i m also thinkin of gettin natural dreadlocks i have like straight hair but really thick i just want to get this straight. so is my hair gonna form dreadlocks if i just don't do nothin to it no combing etc i have started doin that for a month now and i wash my hair once a week with no soap or anything goin all natural. how long do u think its gonna take for my dreads to form like now i see no progress so i kida get frustrated and rub hair with my palm. m i on da right track ?
Kingbruno238 1 month ago
@Kingbruno238 u say your washing with no soap are u using water only u still want to wash tho the way you wash and dry can affect ot so can what u wash with also sea salt sprays and beads help allot ..how longs the hair too
iriesoaringeagle 1 month ago
@iriesoaringeagle yeah im only washing with water nd my hair is not that long like the front part like comes to my eyes the sides are even shorter cause i had a mohawk before. thanks for the reply man i subscribed to ur website its cool.

NaitsHDFTW 1 month ago
@NaitsHDFTW ofcourse not when you cut dreads you go through a profound dread loss depression a dulling of the senses a real deep sense of loss and you are bound to dread again within a year these will stay right where they are till the grave
iriesoaringeagle 1 month ago
@iriesoaringeagle Hmm.. Interesting.. But do the dreads annoy you sometimes?
NaitsHDFTW 1 month ago
@NaitsHDFTW nope not a bit why would they? ofcourse if you used wax or crochet and you had to do maintenancve all the time and constantly fuss over every loose hair yea theyd get annoying but when u dont gotta do s thing but wash em irs just pure pleasure

@checkur20 so you want both arms broken? then end up in jail for breaking and entering and assualt?
iriesoaringeagle 1 month ago 8
@iriesoaringeagle
easy dude, take a chill pill
it is called battery, not assault. assault is the threat of violence that causes reasonable fear or apprehension...battery is the actual unwanted and/or rude physical contact...
and i doubt you could catch me old man
lol
checkur20 1 month ago
@checkur20 actualy your wrong battery is physicaly beatting assault is any unwanted contact including forced hair cutting and if you dared try that you'd be in for a hell of alotta trouble

@iriesoaringeagle actually, i'm a deputy in the state of kansas and have my degree in criminology...i know the statute differences between assault and battery. lol.

@iriesoaringeagle dude, go smoke some pot and mellow..i won't tell i promise.
get me fired? really? c'mon man, let's be realistic why would my dept. fire me for saying an obviously hilarious and frivolous comment to a dude who's name and address i don't know and have never met? do you know how many "i'll have you fired" threats i have had?...this week? rofl...you are pretty funny man.
my name over youtube? i don't think so. my badge however is #308...have fun!
lol, this is too funny
checkur20 1 month ago
@checkur20 ok so now your profilling assumming i smoke pot maybe ppl are telling you they will have u fired for a reason cause u should be so what police department are u in? ive had cops fired over so called jokes pointing lazer pointers at crowds of ppl drumming as an examople and you too will be fired because you desserve to be so what district whats yor supervisors number?

checkur20 1 month ago
@checkur20 i just hope when you do get fired you dont add hasrrassment charges to the list..i know you think you should be an asshole to be a cop but cops are meant to serve and protect not harrass and annoy remember you are a public servant you work for the public which means you are expected to act respectable and abide by a code of conduct that does not include harrassing people online and acting childish

@iriesoaringeagle don't worry, i won't file any charges against you, you have my honor as a youtuber...lol

@checkur20 odviosly you are either you are impersonating a cop or you think your above the law the continued unwanted contact is harassment you dont know when to stop do you? keep it up maybe you should look up the meaning of the word evidence while your at it cause all your doing is providing more dont you guys say you have the right to remain silent all the time? and anything you do say can and will be used against you? maybe you should excersize your right to be silent now
iriesoaringeagle 1 month ago
@iriesoaringeagle i believe you are referencing the fifth amendment in the the bill of rights and the Miranda v Arizona disposition in the wrong context. it relates mostly to interrogation.
anyways, if you look, you have been asking me questions, you never once asked me to stop talking to you. all you wrote were threats about calling my work and getting me fired and breaking my arms, and harrasment charges. what did i do? i made a funny comment that got thumbs up. i never made you respond to me
checkur20 1 month ago
@checkur20 you fucking idiot if the last comment wasnt a request to shut the fuck up and stop harassing me i dont know what is it was not a funny comment it was conspiracy to commit assault it is illegal to say i am going to kill you is it not thats conspiracy to commit murder your statement crossed all ethical lines and you are continuing to harrass and bother me so shut the fuck up leave me the fuck alone you are not as funny as you think you are you are an annoying asshole

UniversalTruths 1 month ago
@UniversalTruths waxes are a scam and a massive mistake just dont comb or condition hair dreads itself no palm rolling no nothing its as easy as doing nothing but washing u do want a dread friendly soap i recomend dreadlockshampoo . com and read all u can on dreadlockssite . com
iriesoaringeagle 1 month ago
@UniversalTruths oops forgot the length part 6 inches to go natural but u can start at bald just wont dread till its long enough 4-5 to tnr
iriesoaringeagle 1 month ago
@iriesoaringeagle Thanks =) will they naturally form separate dreads or will all of my hair just end up matting together?
UniversalTruths 1 month ago
@UniversalTruths technicaly corect answer is both it sections itself b4 it dreads and starts dreading in sections but then they can eat eachother and combine into bigger dreads so need to seperate em often as they dread..any method will tend to try to combine and need to be seperated so seperate while wet and your fine
iriesoaringeagle 1 month ago

cflonnes 1 month ago
would u recommend covering your hair in a beanie cap throughout the day because i heard that the fibers make the loose hairs contract into the other dreads
CTClife21 1 month ago
@CTClife21 looser tam would be better the wool fibres help it knot but u want also to leave em free as much to move if u wear he hat all the time it will slow things and will encourage congos so youfd need to eperate way more often wear a wool tam when u want to leave em free when u want to ballance if you do it all the time it defeats the purpose and tams give some compression without restricting movement too much..
iriesoaringeagle 1 month ago
@iriesoaringeagle ok cool. i got another question for you also. Im using the sea salt spray and i realized when i run my hands thru my hair, the my hair, not my scalp, is dry. I just oiled my scalp and hair yesterday, any suggestions
CTClife21 1 month ago
@CTClife21 thats the purpose of sea salt sprays it dries out the hair so it dreads faster oils make it slippery and dread slower however african hair doesnt transfer oils from scalp to hair so the scalp and hair is extra dry and brittle faster dreading u want it lil dry but not to the point of brittle dont run hands through tho that will slow progress even prevent it if freeforming

@CTClife21 no actualy its how gullible you are how much of a newwb no dreadhead whos had dreads b4 would ever use wax cause most had to start over diue to wax wax is a dread killer its the number 1 cause of dreads being cut its a scam basicly they dread much better without wax and last a hell of alot longer and arent so gross
iriesoaringeagle 1 month ago

@iriesoaringeagle my locks havent locked yet, im only in my 1st month or reaching my 1st month. But im washing the wax out n going alll natural :)
CTClife21 1 month ago

Any tips on how to easily get the rest out?
manson435 1 month ago
@manson435 loads of conditioner or olive oil and be very gentle it takes longer to be gentle but the hair will be in better shape and u lose alot less
iriesoaringeagle 1 month ago
@iriesoaringeagle Thank you very much. I was kinda figuring that that would be the best route to take.
manson435 1 month ago
About 2 years ago i did really c the diffence between natural & salon. just that salon is more neater. so i looked into it and they wanted to charge me $800+8hrs of work. i didnt want to do that so i let my cousin do it when she came for a visit but never end up doing it. i was mad a 1st but then i looked into it more and saw this and changed everything. Thankyou for not letting me use wax. im currently 6 months natural and so far very satisfied. & they probably would have been cut due to wax.

your dreads are amazing. i dont think i would ever want them that long but they look awesome. a tribute for those everywhere who want dreads without product. i plan on back combing mine and maybe crochet hooking them to start them out but thats about it.
exohduss 1 month ago
@exohduss crochets an extremely bad idea it breaks a ton of hair and takes 6 months to recover from 1 single use its worse then wax
iriesoaringeagle 1 month ago
@iriesoaringeagle im not using an actual crochet hook, what im using is a nifty tool from dreadheadHQ which is (reputably) good from what ive heard and if used carefully the hair is fine although its not recommended for multiple uses, its a miniature hook, big enough to grab about 10 hairs at a time but not an actual crochet hook. its a one time use to help my hair knot up quicker, hopefully it goes well. but no wax and nothing else after that start. going natural from there
exohduss 1 month ago
@exohduss dont! it will not be fine and oit will make them take 6 months longer!
after u do that they hsave to loosen up alot to dread right its a horible mistake and everty single thing dreadheadhq recomends is harmful and wrong send it back never crochet your dreads it will backfire making them take way longer and be way messier during the recovery
iriesoaringeagle 1 month ago

Marleyites 2 months ago
@Marleyites what are u doing to "work at them" chances are thats preventing them from dreading dont work on them allow them to happen itr wants to lock up if u just let it so tell me everything u do and have used
iriesoaringeagle 2 months ago
@iriesoaringeagle thanks for the reply, eagle. I tie the hair in a silk scarf or wool headband during the day, sometimes at night, but usually at night, just free hair on the pillow. use dr bronner's soap once a week, just water between times in shower. nothing else. no twisting or brushing or combing. Not even any separating as no congos have formed. do have sections, though. hair is very thick, wavy, 4 - 6" long, some grey hairs, well, alot really.
Marleyites 2 months ago
@Marleyites are u african american? or not? if not lil more length will help alot and how long ya been at it? sea salt sprays or soaks help also its not just what u wash with but how u wash and dry that can make a difference
iriesoaringeagle 2 months ago
@iriesoaringeagle African at heart as I follow the teachings of His Imperial Majesty, Haile Selassie I the First, King of Kings, Rastafari. I don't dry, just dab with towel after shower. washing is minimal affair, just squirt a little soap, squeeze it thru, shower spray rinses out. it's been about 6 or 8 months now. maybe going back to baking soda rinse will help as well?
Marleyites 2 months ago
@Marleyites yea the baking soda should help or when u use bronners dont squeeze it thru only worry bout the scalp not the hair gently wash the scalp with fingertips then rinse thru ..does bronners leave a sticky feeling if so tey dreadlockshampoo com the lockin up liquids great for hard to dread hair the bars pure bliss on locked up dreads

@iriesoaringeagle i want to backcomb. i would do the all natural method but i feel that i'm reaching a new point in my life, and that getting dreadlocks is the first milestone as it were. would you consider backcombing to be excessively damaging?
HighBrowHobo 2 months ago
@HighBrowHobo fairly danmaging not excessive but the hairs cuticles are permenantly pried open and damaged twist and rips a better option but naturals definately best and if its a milestone then id make the most of it and go natural
iriesoaringeagle 2 months ago
@iriesoaringeagle cool, i'll bear that in mind. i have long, thick and strong hair, so i think it should be fairly resilient, but even so once its backcombed i'll leave it alone. Thanks again
HighBrowHobo 2 months ago
@HighBrowHobo hair strength dont matter the act of combing backwarsds always damages the cuticles permenantly and twist and rips a way better method looks way better too so you dont look like sideshow bob for weeks..id never recomend backcombing tho i dont warn against it like crochet its just a poor method that fails too often so is not worth the damage it causes

Who knows?

I can definitely tell which ones are natural compared to the twist and rip. I was always very OCD about my loose hairs until I watched your videos. And, I can say that all of my loose hairs are beginning to dread now. I use zero maintenance with my dreads now and I tam them up as much as possible. Thank you for opening my eyes.
