@JAkOB1805 one of my friends was in the army and tried to join the sas, but you need to have served 3 years in the regular armed forces (not the TA) before you even get considered. i think the medic corps can apply, but I`m not sure. the selection process is famously difficult.

The mission was a balls up from the command but the lads on the ground did a good job , he may have flowered up some of what happened but overall he took advantage of his ability to write books which sold and made him money . @MrRobbo246 Hi,I have read all three books,and I agree with you,concealment and surprise are important-in fact the main ethos of the SAS,but I dont see how a couple of Land rover 110's could have been any less stealthy than the chinook that dropped them off.The chinook could even have dropped men and vehicles well behind enemy lines,and need be they could have just abandoned the vehicles and made for the chinook RV.We are also overlooking the fact here that the patrols radios did not work well.

I heard along the grapevine that he isn't welcome back at Hereford either. It is funny that Chris Ryan gave the regiment some money from his book and Mcnab(Mitchell)never gave anything. There is also a documnetry of a former SAS man who went to Iraq to find out the truth which is very interesting as well.

I often wonder if what makes the S.A.S special is that they have gatherd so much knowledge over the years that conflict to them is an art from they have masterd down to a T. When you think about it they have always been up to one thing or another down through the years some where doing one job here or there. They must no what to expect no matter what situation they are in.
Mind you the nearest I have ever been to the army is going Comando while wearin a kilt.

Dollynoise - TRUE!!! I finished his brawo two zero 1 month ago - that book is simply insane! Very good reading, and very impressive! i mean, i read the whole thing in 2 days - it blew me away! Love the special forces story and damn his story is something special!

@StevenMacGriogair Wasn't aware you were in the regiment ! I take your point in the second paragraph I served 12 months in 14 Int. over in Ulster/NI and I completed four tours . The mission was a balls up from the command but the lads on the ground did a good job , he may have flowered up some of what happened but overall he took advantage of his ability to write books which sold and made him money . Some have it some don't !!

Everyone says he screwed up (I guess a lot of the patrol did die :( RIP).

@0Awildgoose Hi,no Asher was not there,but he traveled to Iraq some years later following the patrols route and actually met up with some of the Iraqi characters that McNab mentions eg the farmer on the bulldozer.This is where Mc Nabs story starts to go awry,these people had no reason to lie to Asher and totally contradict what Mc Nab says.

Mc Nab may help former soldiers on civvie street and Help 4 Heroes,but I reckon its the least this opportunist can do after cashing in on his time with the regiment,and refusing to drive into Iraq like any other CO would have done for the Bravo two zero mission.He endangered the lives of a lot of people,and contrary to popular opinion he is not thought of as a hero back in Hereford,more a money grabbing embarrasment.What good is mc nabs medals to Consiglio and Co.?

I believe the main reasons for not driving in were to keep concealement and suprise, which was one of the main ideas for the SAS. yes He did make many bad mistakes as you have pointed out, but to get the full Idea I think you should read bravo two zero, the one who got away and micheal ashers book.

@MrRobbo246 Hi,I have read all three books,and I agree with you,concealment and surprise are important-in fact the main ethos of the SAS,but I dont see how a couple of Land rover 110's could have been any less stealthy than the chinook that dropped them off.The chinook could even have dropped men and vehicles well behind enemy lines,and need be they could have just abandoned the vehicles and made for the chinook RV.We are also overlooking the fact here that the patrols radios did not work well.

@MrRobbo246 Yes the wrong frequencies were given but also the TACBE Radios did not work at all.As I said before there were a lot of mistakes made and it wasnt entirely Mc Nabs fault.I think it was one of the most ill thought out and ill prepared missions in the history of the british army.They didnt even know that the part of the desert they were going to was mainly rock and not sand.

@isoka3 If you decide to believe Michael Asher. It's all a matter of who we decide to believe. There are discrepancies between all four books. Personally I believe Chris Ryan. But I don't know why you have to be so angry about it. They went into a hell-hole, they messed up, they went through hell and then got back alive. Exactly how it happened is up to the individual to decide. And personally I don't approve of Asher's personal crusade to disonhour them.

im another guy who knows a guy who knows mcnab, but its not a loose connection, my mate's dad was in the intelligence corps, and was one of the slimeys who briefed him for B20. it was either he briefed him, or was there for the after-action, but either way, he was involved with that mission. He also knew the others and was friends with Vince Phillips.
