I'm in the top band at my high school and I've been playing clarinet for 4 years since 6th grade and this year during concert season is the year I get to play the Bb Contra Clarinet! SO EXCITED :D
Why is it rushed?! Haven't you ever heard a recording of this! You don't rush, especially the fugue, it just sounds terrible. I like the contrabass sound though...
Wow wow wow!!! Amazing performance! This is just like a Recorder orchestra except lots of reeds and keys. And an octave or two lower -- or three. And we would *never* attempt this piece :)
this thing, only word i can use is "thing" after having played it solo as a high school junior, is so amazing to even get through is an entire workout, there is NO room to breathe in it, and this performance is amazing :) i know when i played it tone nd steadiness werent first in my mind
well you could say an organ is a collection of one-tune metal clarinets, or flutes, more like.
Anyhow, they're both wind instruments (although clarinet is woodwind I think, and organs are definitely metal, so closer to brass) so they have some common qualities.
It does sound remarkably "fitting" with clarinets, but it sounds a bit too much like a harmonica for my taste :P
There are many types of organ pipes. Besides the straight tubes which sound like flutes, there are conical tubes with reeds which sound like clarinets and oboes. The pipe organ and a wind band can sound remarkably similar because of the variation of tubes as well as both "instruments" use wind to power the sound.
Marco: excelente material. Una versión hermosa. ¡Pero fíjate la cantidad y variedad de clarinetes que hicieron falta para asemejarse al órgano! Tus Boooooo... del clarinete contabajo se escuchan clarísimos. ¡Gracias desde Argentina!
hey can sumone help me,i just got two new reeds(size 4) and all i have is a reedy and airy sound that wnt go away and i have to play on a b45 cuse my m-13 broke can sumone give me sum advice,i sound horrible and i cant bare it anymore ,any other time i have a good sound but not with this reeds or b-45
I use 6 Luries.... I am a contra/bassoonist as well as a clarinetist, so when I go to clarinet from bassoon, and especially contrabassoon, I need something that can handle my blasting... I also like the control you get with thick reeds; I can play higher than a piano using overtones/harmonics, weaker reeds can't handle the vibrations.
I played this song in my high school band's wind ensemble on Contra bass, talk about a lot of fun. Would've been even better with just clarinets. Wonderful performance.
I think this performance is brilliant...amazing how powerful clarinets can be. It sounds demanding but you all play so well. Great warm sound. Congratulations!
Eddy came to Iceland in 2004 and we had a Masterclass and concert for a weekend. He then played Leblanc OpusII Bb clarinet and an older Buffet A clarinet. One Icelandic girl Sveinhildur Torfadottir studied with him and almost all of his students were playing Leblanc at that time(he got go deal on them since he had a contract with Leblanc at that time). His sound is very smooth and fluid(like I find the Opus clarinet sound for me). We were then a bit shooked to know that he now plays Buffet Tosca
This is the most awesome version of Toccata and Fugue in D minor I've ever heard. Kudos to this extremely talented clarinet ensemble. GO Clarinets!!! ()>====>
Its nice to read that people pay extra attention to the contrabass clarinet! I play that instrument in this group, and in this concert. I'm playing a Leblanc contrabass here. It was a very nice concert. Thanks for your observation.
i love this vid. this is one of my favorite classical pieces, and i love it even more because i play Eb, Bb, alto, bass and BBb contrabass clarinet :]
OMG! I thought this would be rather bad...but wow! This is reallllly weelllll done!!!!! Although, I must say I love the pipe organ better while playing this :)
I remember hearing that clarinets and pipe organs had the same physics...cylindrical tubes, etc. I guess the sound of this confirms that. Simply spectacular.
if that's the truth, then i would expect saxophones to have near exact timbre of sound, seeing as they are cyllindrical tubes, only brass, like the organ. i would love to hear this done by a saxophone choir, just to confirm my curiosity
Saxophones have conical tubes, not cylindrical like clarinets or pipe organs. That means they have a lot more even harmonics (at least in the lower registers/octaves), so it would be a very different sound. I suspect it would sound more 'cluttered' since there would be more wave peaks to interfere with each other. Nevertheless, I'd like to hear it done with saxophones as well...
No, saxophones have CONICAL bores, not cylindrical, otherwise, they wouldn't overblow at the octave. That fact is also what gives them their unique timbre- a totally different sound from the clarinet.
that was fuckin amazing. it ALMOST sounds better than the original with the organ. BUT...the organ just has something about it. these clarinets rock tho!
Wouahhh !!! Wouaaahhh ! Et Wouaaaah ! :P
