Yeah, I remember seeing the first of the movies on tape way back when. I'm pretty glad that when they finally released them on DVD, it was sub only. After so MANY episodes of the tv series, plus Char's Counterattack, and even Bandai's attempts to get sound-a-likes for the roles of Amuro, Char, and Bright in Zeta, it's too weird watch the movie dub now. Plus, it's so early in Gundam's US history that they hadn't even decided on the official romanizations and terminology yet.

Hmmm, well, as much as I love Steve Blum, and I'm sure there ae plenty of good VA's in this, I gotta say, this is pretty terrible. The Ocean Dub, say what you will about their other shows, are very good with how they treat the Gundam Series' (for the record, though, I AM a Ocean fan, as well as a Gundam Fan. And editing notwithstanding, actually like their dub of DBZ)

The best part of this whole video, though: At 1:44, it sounds like he calls him "Shasnable", which sounds like some penis joke

i saw this movie trilogy way before the American TV dub so i'm so much more used to these voices for the characters than the TV voices. Steven Blum is so...perfect as Char, and i love how his name is pronounced haha. i hated Brad Swaile (Quatre) as a vey whiny 15-year old Amuro in MSG, though i LOVED him in Char's Counterattack as a 29-year old soldier.

It's a terrible dub, but it's a great scene since it's the first time the rivals ever actually meet. The fact it's so normal and a moment of common battlefield truce since neither of them are obligated to fight there makes it even more awkwardly ironic since later their rivalry becomes so legendary and personal.

@Starwind18020 i still love the voice cast in this movie trilogy dub so much more than the TV series. i'm more used to it i guess. and the dialogue is so much better in the movies in my opinion. the funny scenes are funnier, the serious scenes are darker. rocks. i still pronounce his name "Sha" to this day haha. i think they get their pronunciation from the American Gundam novel trilogy, in which Char's name is spelled how it's pronounced in the movies.
