Shawn plays on the Donovan track - his own version is on 1965 LP "I'm A Loner" (also the name of standout title track) -- he's a scintillating 12-string guitarist & fine singer-songwriter -- (in comparison, Donovan's Little Tin Soldier sounds dull) -- there's also a great version of Phil Ochs' The Bells
Donovan's version was on "Fairy Tale" (the orig Pye release, not the Marble Arch reissue) which has some lovely tracks - I'll Try For The Sun, Sunny Goodge Street, and Bert Jansch's Oh Deed I Do
I love the joy you project Tom. I've seen some of your other vidoes and i love the participation from other family and friends. Keep up the joy in your music tom. Way to go!
Thanks, Kris! This is one of only two songs to which I apply my awkward two-finger picking. It works well with this song but I know that I learned finger picking wrong because my hand hurts so much afterwards. :o)
Tom!! That was such a wonderful song!!! I loved the way you started the video. Then I was amazed by your fingerpicking, then I was pleased enormously by your strong vocals.
Hmmm, I could go on, and on.
I've actually never heard this song before. I sure enjoyed your performance of this so much!!!
Wow, thanks so much John! I only hear all the mistakes I made, heh. I forget which Donovan albumn I heard this on, but it stuck with me - Shawn Phillips is a great singer/songwriter to (of course, lol).
Great singing...makes our effort seen very rough !
