@mseastbay I remember you and your girls. Hope all is well with your team. Unfortunately Cassie has been in a long recovery when she destroy her elbow. Good news she has full use of the joint back, but she is slowly strengthening and getting used to doing punches etc on the floor just to get used to impacting on it again. She's only 12 right now and should be able to train back up to her level 7 but we want to take it slowly. Take care and thanks for the clarification!
Actually, if the gymnast performs her kip and makes it, the max deduction the judges can take is .3, so it always benefits them to try, if they have a kip. If they miss it, the routine starts as if they were starting over... From a 9.5.
@crazygymnastbanana That's a long standing discussion on this thread. The Kip in the AAU in Florida Level 4 was an optional start. The routine with the glide swing only starts with an overall value of 9.5. With the Kip the overall value of the routine is a 10.0 But of course if they miss the kip and have a "technical" fall then that's a 5/10 deduction. Most level 4's here don't do it unless they are confident of it as the deduction negates the benefit if they miss it! Thanks!!
Hi everyone who has still viewed this video. Cassie is still recovering from her catastrophic Elbow injury, but still plans on continuing her gymnastics. We are hoping she goes back to full training this coming spring. Congratulations and good luck to all of the gymnasts out there. Be proud of yourselves! This is a very hard sport, and the work involved is to be commended to you all.....Cassie's mom
@mammabutterfly75 Her floor score was only off from placing by like .005 or something (so long ago I don't remember specifically now) but she scored very high in her vault, which helped to balance, so her all around score just squeaked her into 1st. It happens quite a bit in this world. That's why we always encourage the girls to not let one bad event ruin the day for them, you never know what can happen. You can hear me in the bg on the final 2, when we all saw she had done it.
Thank you for the kind words. She was 8 in this competition. We were very proud of her. She is now comng out of an injury (dislocated right elbow) and will be training level 7, she missed this last competition season but we have hopes she will be back for the next.
Hi this is Cassie's mom in regards to all the kip questions on the bar. Her routine was level 4. In aau, the kip is NOT a required mount on the level bars, but the bar routine starts at a 9.5 value. If the kip is added, the bar routine becomes a 10.0 value. Most of the kids including Cassie, did a pull over until they got the kip well enough that they didn't get a more than 5 /10 deduction for doing it. All of the routines you see in this competition were level 4.
I wanted to add, that This is the state of Florida, and as we found in in the Nationals, not all of the states have the same requirements, so you may only see a pull over required in the mount for level 4 bars where you are as well. Hopes that helps to clear up the question for everyone!
What state are you in? I know that the state of Florida has different requrements then other states. I also put a general response to the kip question. This routine was a level 4 routine and the kip was an optional mount for them
In florida, a KIP in AAU is optional. Our level 4 routines start off with a max score of 9.5 if a glide swing is used, where if we do the kip it starts off with a max scor of 10.0. I'm 10 years old and training modified options/prep op with expectations to be competing level 7 spring of 2010
I was 9 years old at the time of this competition. Almost 5 ft. I find bars my hardest event because of my size. It takes more strength when learning the new skills. Currently I am training Level 7, dislocated my elbow 4 weeks ago. I am still training to maintain my strength and flexibility, but appears I will be out of this competition season and have to continue 7 next year. Thanks for watching and good luck to you!
Hi everyone lots of questions on the Kip. I believe different states have different requirements in AAU. In Florida the KIP is not required but you only get a starting score of 9.5 if you just do a pull over. Took a long time for the kip to come around. Answers to other questions, she was just 9 years old in this video. She started year before as level 3. She is going to be competing level 5 aau and usag this fall.
Congrats to all of you for your accomplishments. This is great sport!!!
In AAU they have the option of doing a pullover with a starting score of 9.5, or a kip with a starting score of 10.0 We did pull overs until the Kip was consistant enough to warrant using the kip. Thanks for the comment! We are very proud of her.
Nice job! I remember her b/c I kept thinking they were calling my kid (Cassidy). We were there too, and one of my girls lands her round-off backhandspring in your video at the very end of the beam routine! :-) Then I see our group at vault while she's on floor, and then we're up there for awards. Funny! That's a fun meet!
I remember Cassidy, she won vault and won the Tiara for the highest score overall I think? Congratulations to her!! This was our first experience with the princess classic, our girls had a wonderful time. Thanks again for your comment, we were excited and of course proud. I will look for Cassidy at the upcoming meets, I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of her :-)
Yep, that was her! We've been to the Princess Classic for the last few years, and our girls really love it. Will you be at Gasparilla? Maybe we'll see you there!
Yes we will be at Gasparilla, we are scheduled for Sunday, and I think you guys are on the same roster. We will see you there and good luck to all of your girls!
