If you travel to some of the northern parts of California, particularly in Fresno (especially Fresno), Stockton, and Sacramento, you'll see more Hmong around. Often times, Hmong are mistaken for Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.

I've seen a 16-year-old Hmong girl dominate a discussion with workmates about problems at work (yes, they do leave school and start working this young), and her mates (most are Han girls, although some might have been Miao-Yao) are on average 7 years older. They spoke in Xiang, which I didn't understand, but their collective body language was clear. I thought then that 16-year-old girl was a freak in nature, but now I'm not so sure.
