  • My favorite pianist Hampton Hawes...... fly on Hamp!

  • Have to always revisit to get my bebop Hamp fix. Quoting "Doodlin" Horace Silver on this cut which makes me laugh for joy..

  • "All Night Session" was recorded in a single night with the Hampton Hawes trio plus Jim Hall on guitar. What a night that must have been!

Hawes is like Charlie Parker coming through the piano. Or like Bud Powell plus gospel. Anyway you look at it, he was a wonderful musician!

  • Everyday brings wonderful new surprises. Thanks for this one.

  • You're welcome, nitenday12-san!!

  • Yea 1955 - vintage Hawes. Nov '55 he recorded the great 'All Night Sessions' albums (now available on 2 CDS). When I first heard this last year on utube I was compelled to find it on CD. It's on the Hampton Hawes Trio Complete Sessions 2 CD set. One of the greatest piano players ever. Not only you & I my friend, but also Ahmad Jamal thinks so too - in a recent interview he referred to Hawes as 'The Master.' Great upload of a great musician - Hampton Hawes.

  • Thank you, adeduction-san!!

I also like both of Ahmad Jamal and Hampton Hawes.

  • Always wanted to pat his foot, he said. Hamp you are so missed on today's scene. They don't know the feel.

  • this man wasa cool swinging bopper loveley melodic swinging lines when jazz was happy music. hampton one of the best.

  • :-)*~~~WaLkIn' wItH HaMpToN hAwEs

  • @metalheadhell I agree wholeheartedly...Hampton Hawes playing also has personality and ebullience - a couple of qualities lacking in much of today's jazz. Not that I'm anti 'modern'.

  • @metalheadhell you are so right! That is the scene today. How many notes can I play instead of what is truly important. The music needs to swing like Hamp always did. The road to true music is littered with jazz musicans' corpses.

  • one of my heros swingy stuff just great.

  • Grandissimo pianista, purtroppo misconosciuto! - Wonderful pianist, sadly too little known!

  • wow!

  • this song really grooves. It make you want to tap your feet . I like how each musician compliments each other. I thing shelly manne plays the drums very well on this recording. Thanks for posting this tune. :-)

  • You're welcome, JohnC2566-san!!

  • Hampton Hawes is my favorite jazz pianist of all times!

  • Is this on CD? I've never seen it.

    Hamp is the man!!!

  • Yes, this song by Hampton Hawes Trio is recorded on a CD with some performances by the All-Stars.

Also the trio records the performance of "The Champ (Dizzy Gillespie)" too.
