  • Can people PLEASE STOP using this fucking song on EVERY FUCKING THING they upload on youtube?? The girl is sweet and the thing is, some photos are amazing and some are lame, always use you best photos.

  • Sorry dude, I don't mean to hate, but the photos are really average. Nice tool though, good on ya for inventing it. :-)

  • Model looks beautiful photos look awful

  • product looks cool but those pictures look awful

  • she's hot

  • Just picked up the Orbis with bracket for my Nikon D90 and SB900. This ringflash is simply amazing. I can't think of a better accessory more the money. Quality of light is fantastic. Soft wrap around shadowless light and portable at the same time.

  • haters gonna hate

  • Hi, I have an Olympus E-3 which I use in conjuncrion with a Metz 48-AF (ok, actually I have a few of them). I was wondering if the Orbis would fit well my fklash unit.

  • @matteoprez Hi there, The orbis™ is a "one-size-fits-all" and works really well with the Metz 48, yes. Check out our online FAQs for details of all the flashes the orbis™ works with. Cheers, enlight

  • Beautiful Shadowless Photos = FLAT Photos. Although about 2 years ago when I made my own (before Orbis) I found it very useful for macro fill light shots, see attached video.

  • Ill stick with the Ray Flash.

  • I'm afraid i will have to put off portable ring flashes until one of you guys makes something more suitable, and i have to say, if the rayflash people manage to bypass the A.F issue, they would get my money.

  • of course, there is now a bracket available, but this solution is so large that it is simply not worth my effort. Especially since i would have already payed for the flash adapter itself.

  • I often use my flash hand held off-camera, and this is difficult enough, without having to: hold the ring unit onto the flash, hold the flash (it is not supported by the ring unit), hold the camera, adjust the zoom, and shoot.

  • When i realised that the RAYFLASH unit by your competitor would completely block my flash A.F grid, making it near useless for my work (club photography), i started to consider your product.

however, i am put off by the flimsy universal fit for smaller flashes, and the fact that i would have no hand to zoom/adjust with while using the flash.

  • @hoah there seems to be a holder that means you can go hands free and still zoom in now. just got reviewd and got a good mark

  • I saw my friends orbis broke when it hits the ground, the white diffuser gets separated from the body. Just a warning

  • I`ve been looking at the Orbis and the RayFlash trying to decide the pro`s and cons of both models as I don`t like to throw money away. The Orbis fits virtually all flashguns ( does`nt matter what camera you use ) RayFlash fits only 1 combination of flash and camera. Upgrade flash or camera and its buy another Rayflash. The Strobist site rate the quality of light from the Orbis superior to the RayFlash. The Orbis now comes with an optional arm to connect to camera. Guess which one I would choose

  • Are we suppose to be impressed?

  • I've tested an Orbis Ringflash and I wasn't so satisfy. Save money and go for a true ringflash (Falcon Eye or Dynaphos).

  • Dont have any experience of this prroduct yet, but i'd say the results should really be a whole lot better than the video suggests.

The device looks way too tricky to hand hold, leaving just one hand to steady AND operate the camera. must promote some blurred shots especially with a heavy camera and battery pack.

I think the Ray-Flash may be a better option.

  • is it just me or are these pictures really not impressive?

  • hey adrian, i just checked out your channel.. great idea with the rain shoot, the photos look great. good work.

  • Wow, talk about the pot calling the kettle black? It's always amusing when bad photographers comment negatively on other photographers. Those without any real commercial assignments often have plenty of free time to judge others.

  • @eggbertsmith dear mister professional eggbertsmith, noticed how i said "is it just me" that was just my own opinion... and to post something on youtube and not expect feedback (whether it'd be negative or positive) is just nonsense.. have u met the internets?

  • @adrianvilcan It's just you

  • @zabansumhal

Not it's not. We now are 2. :)

  • i love this product..u have to know how to light. don't expect to get great results right away. using a light meter is recommended. practice practice

  • Anyone know if this thing fits the Vivitar 285hv?

  • hi dana, i'm afraid the vivitar 285HV is pretty much the only flash the orbis™ doesn't fit, as the 285 design has been unchanged since the 70's and is a LOT bigger than other SLR flashes.

  • @enlightphoto

thanks, but I kinda did a little modifying and got it to fit...

  • To get an insight into the technical development that went into the orbis™, take a look at the 'orbis™ Tech' topic on the blog at our website.

  • You can make one of these for less than $20 if you know what you're doing.

  • I agree with the gentleman below. I too had similar problems,

plus issues with exposure, making it even more unpredictable

to use flashes... Not worth it!

  • I just bought one a week ago, and returned it yesterday! I was not impressed. You need three hands to be able to use it and work the lens, it always threatened to fall off the flash.

Depending on what lens you're working with, it'll hit

the auto focus button. You could be well into several shots before you realize that you're on manual focus. Unless, the redesign is AMAZING

I'd say keep your money in your pocket!

    V.

  • Part #2...

I have seen this thing being demonstrated and I am amazed by the quality of the light it produces, although there were a few problems with the flash sensor providing the correct amount of light.

Some shots were slightly over exposed can probably be fixed by operating the flash manually or making alterations in Photoshop

Overall, it performed very well and I am going to purchase an Orbis as soon as the alterations are made.

    Cheers.

  • Part #1...

I spoke with the designer of the Orbis the other day (the guy in the video) in Sydney at the PMA Australia 2009 Imaging Technology Show, I asked him when the Orbis that attaches to the camera will be released (rather than having to use three hands when zooming)? He informed me that the support should be available in two three months and it will fit the current version of the Orbis - Hooray.

  • And there's a Coco Ring Flash unit that does the same thing (and you dont have to hold) for like $50

  • $200?!?!

For a cheap plastic that i have to hold it with one hand during the entire shoot?

    Getdafukouttaheya!

  • ugly shirt

  • How can you zoom in and out with one hand on the ring flash?

  • Yaaa.. Same concern.. how..

  • Great looking unit, however you really need a bracket to hold the flash and the Orbis in place to allow the photographer to easily change their shooting angle without the hassles of:

    * Making sure that the flash unit does not fall out of the orbis or vice versa.

*Making sure that the camera does not slip out of the back of the orbis.

Also, it looks like you need to put the orbis and flash down to alter settings on your camera, why?

I may buy an orbis if you could make a few alterations.

  • why NO closed captioned in here video

  • Comment removed

  • what's the music title?

  • 1:34 .... pinkeye :o)

  • i've received mine today and the results are AMAZING !!!!

  • Pros. its light durable plastic

Cons. pricey very auckward to hand hold.

  • cool

  • you don't need a bracket with this, there won't be a problem with holding the camera in vertical or horizontal. all pro ring flashes generally have to be held just like this.

A fantastic looking piece of kit thats will help a lot of photographers wanting the ring flash look. I'm defo getting one asap, thanks for this nice piece of affordable kit. oh and the rayflash is knocked down in a second by the orbis...

  • Great video, JM.

Will be ordering one of these suckers ASAP.

  • hmm. I can foresee problems when using a vertical grip with a DSLR (EOS 40d) and trying to change an AF point or dial the flash exposure down. Its gonna be very clunky when changing settings while holding the ringflash.

For the rest this thing looks great.

  • What camera bag is that?

Good video - I love the real-world use being shown, as opposed to just all the shots you can get from it. Definitely, a bracket will be super helpful, but this appears to be one of the best (more affordable) ringflashes. Well done.

    Chris

  • Yep, a simple L bracket and screw is all thats needed surely. I will wait to see what happens before committing. I may just wait for the SB900 version of the Rayflash.

  • good spot dowen6999! carena has a rare genetic condition called "heterochromia", just one of her many stunning attributes. redeye with ringflashes is not totally unheard of, but much less common with the orbis(tm) because it's more diffuse than most studio systems.

  • Looks good man. Will order one.

  • About 3/4 into the video the still photo of the model standing against the all yellow background shows some red eye on her left eye. Is that usual with ring flashes?

  • hi guys, thanks for your comments. just to explain the fitting kit and why it's not yet available: i would have ideally launched the fitting kit at the same time but it is complex, as it has to fit all combinations of camera and flash/strobe. rather than wait i thought it would be best to launch the orbis(tm) now so that photographers who are happy to handhold it can start having fun !

  • A. don't use a zoom lens :-)

    B. it wouldn't be that easy to mount as it has to rotate when you switch from landscape to portrait... or does it ? It's a ring so maybe it doesn't... hell why doesn't this have a mount already !! :-) BTW... I've ordered mine.

  • Odd that the ringflash mount won't be available until early 2009. Probably just part of a marketing strategy, like the Gary Fong lightspheres. Buy one, then they come out with another gadget they say you should have in your bag.

  • The magic of this ring flash is that you can do with it what is difficult to do (if not impossible) with other ring flashes. There's no cord or 20lb battery pack to lug around, it's small enough to consider bringing to parties or clubs. Used as a fill light it's a much bigger source than using your flash without it, plus you'll get those awesome catchlights even when shooting into the sun.

  • looks like a cool device though it shouldnt be to hard to mount with a drill and a piece of flat aluminum and a couple nuts n bolts!!!

  • This guy's photos suck. If you're going to try to push this product, I recommend some better work that will inspire people. With that said, the Orbis seems like a pretty nifty product. I think I'll wait and see how well it handles after some reviews.

  • Agreed.

  • I think I prefer the hand held method. If the unit is light enough that is. This allows more creative control of the light. You can mount the ring flash setup on a light stand for example. I will be ordering one just as soon as the Aissue dollar gets a bit stronger.

  • You really need to design a way to mount the ring flash and the strobe to the camera body. It's impossible to adjust your zoom or any other settings on the camera with your left hand dedicated to holding the flash. It should be so easy for you guys to build a simple mount for that purpose. Then I'll buy one, but not if I need to hand hold the strobe...

  • I totally agree!

  • if you go to their website, it says that the ring flash mount will be available by 1st quarter of 2009.
