@Aggressiveinline101 When I was 6 i had mine removed, except I grew up in Russia and this was 1994 so the operation was done without any anesthetic what so ever, I was tied down to the chair (arms and legs) and was completely conscious throughout the entire procedure. I cant distinctly remember the pain, but I do remember my body convulsing from the pain, so it was pretty bad. I was released the same day and had to walk home from the hospital through the snow, in the Russian winter... good times
Dont worry they dont dry your throat with a cotton ball now. That was way back then. Now they have a little fan sucker thing to dry your throat. And yes that person was awake.
Sweet mother of mercy, I thought my daughter's removal was tough, what with all the modern technology and endoscopic tools. I can't even imagine how much more miserable she would be if she had to have it done this way! O.O
@platinum243125 Yes, it was most commonly induced by an ethyl chloride spray, normally from a tube connected to a handheld canister the drug. Chloroform was also rarely used, but not nearly as often as the spray, mostly because chloroform had many dangerous side effects. Chloroform was only really used by rural call-in doctors. So the answer to your question is yes! (Info provided by the US Department of Anesthesia.)
@timdaman250 - When my brother got his removed 45 years ago, the doctors let him keep his tonsils for 'show and tell'. They did not look like the tonsils in the cartoons. But, I bet he had the best thing to show for 'show and tell' day in kindergarten. Dont be scared. I would bet removing tonsils today is quicker and less obtrusive then when this film was made. Ask if you can keep your tonsils too. lol
I have to get this done March 2nd, thank goodness for anesthesia :]
Wish me luck <3

Back in those days you really didn't need to have someone with you. Not quite so many paedophiles or abductors, you see.
