is it possible to even play with a plectrum on a classic (nylon) guitar? I tried it and sounds not too good and especially with chords I cant seem to hit all strings
I've been playing with just my fingers for 6 years now, since all along I'm playing classical/folk. But I recently got an electric, and I'm finding hyper fast plucking really difficult to pull off. Still.... if not for that, I'm 5x more dexterous with my fingers than my pick...
It feels like I'm learning guitar all over again. I can't pick without looking at my right hand the whole time..
I'm trying to think of mastering the pick like a chef masters his kitchen knife lol. Given any knife of any size, length, even different 'categories' of knives, he can still dice vegetables faster than us mortals.
Yes... the dream is so cool... but also so far away... :( Maybe if I can at least strum without the pick getting stuck abruptly I wouldn't complain half as much lol.
i use heavy/extra heavy jim dunlop picks, and ive always had trouble keeping the pick between my index finger and thumb, it slips and slides while im trying to play thrash metal (Metallica, Pantera Etc), and i hold my pick in the middle of my index finger and thumb almost like a fist, but my Middle, ring and pinky are straight out, am i holding it wrong? any input is appreciated. thanks.
i've always used my fingers to play the guitar, and playing with a pick has always been a nuisance to me. but unless i play with the finger nails, the sound isn't so loud (assuming i'm playing electric guitar). one problem i face when playing the rhythm with the pick is that i can't hold the pick steady in my hands. so soon, the pick is disoriented or it falls off my hand. any tips on that?
i had the same problem when i first started.. if you score (cut into the picks) with a razor, or buy 'cool' picks (with a sandpaper grip), it helps. but i've gotten used to playing without those. for the first month or two of starting to play, i would drop the pick constantly. if you rub your fingers together and rub them on the pick- you get some grip. but in the end, you really learn to just tip the strings, and the pick hardly budges in your hands. but practice, that's the best tip i can give
@st105900 i have the same problem, i usually hold it with two fingers or maybe fix it when there is a pause in the music i am playing. another factor may be the pick you are using.. some cheap picks such as the Harley benton ones don't have grip on the surface. Maybe try a rubber pick or Jim Dunlop Jazz III.
Shit I use the same pick as you. I use black ones too of that same brand that has pretty good grip. Well it's actually grey but turns black after 15 minutes of playing.
i tried doing practice like in your video it doesnt help pick gets caught up on upstroke or i miss string completly

I'm frustrated trying to play chords with a pick :-(
I just can't get any rythm into my blues chords.
The "down" works fine, but when I go "up" I got stuck on the high "e" string , or I just hit 3 or 4 strings, that sounds awful.
For licks and melodys I have no problem.
BTW I got medium picks, friends told me better take them, hard picks are no good for beginners.
Any idea what I do wrong ?

What I can't stand is the sound of the pick on the strings like scraping sound
