BS, this is a magic trick. Go the youtube version of this video titled "Derren Brown NLP" which has 1.7m views, and read the comments for my full explanation of how he does it.
Derren Brown revealed it by himself in this show, so I don't see a point to explain it in this video. You're just pointing out the details which everyone saw anyway. Like touching him and anchoring. Everyone's alread got it.
All of the subtle suggestions and what not about bikes is all misdirection and showmanship. There is no hypnosis taking place here - it's an illusion. The trick didn't lie in getting Simon Pegg to change his mind without knowing it. Pegg never wrote "leather jacket" - he always actually did want the bike and that's what he wrote. The trick lies in finding out what he wrote before hand, and switching the envelope. Everything else is misdirection to make you, and Pegg, believe otherwise.
Yes, I think this is the more tangible explanation. Derren, besides being a mentalist is also an illusionist, which means he can easily switch the envelope.
Not sure if I believe in satan, but this guy is probably a form of it. Not in a bad way, satan has it's place in nature and society. Just the tactics he uses, pure deception and manipulation and making it seem pleasant for the person, is so beautifully evil. This is what I strive to be in my life but fall so short of currently. I hope this isn't a glorified magic trick, I hope there is some truth to the psychology side of this.
This would only work on someone who is "suggestable". Someone like me, with a relatively antisocial personality, would be so put off by the constant touching, rapid speech, and proximity to another that I would be more focused on "getting away" from this guy than anything he was saying. I guess thats why I'm a hard sell. The thought that my saying "no thanks" might be hurtful to someone has absolutely no impact on me.

It doesn´t explain anything!!! Derren uses mental control over the "victim", and not many can do this!!! Also he has a lot of interacting with his mind-power over the fellow, also what others cannot do. So no secrets are revealed here whatsoever!

So there's a lot more that Derren does wich he doesn't explane. Anyone can do this after a LOT of training, but I agree that Derren is amazing with this.
@LDISTEL I don´t beleive "anyone" can do it...! No matter how hard they train...Most people of today are so mentally disturbed, they can´t concentrate for even half a second. If no inner peace, I doubt one can develop skills like these. Derren has probably always been somewhat introverted, as his field of observation is extraordinaryly broad.
So really as he is today, it´s probably the result of decades of "work". I don´t know this, it´s only my beleif though.
@tygesh the fact that people "can't concentrate for even half a second" is part of what makes it work. he is breaking established social patterns (shaking hands and personal space are two examples), which has people's mind concentrating on the fact that something is different and leaving it receptive to subliminal messages. If people were more aware and able "to concentrate" for longer periods of time, this would not work as well

@trident3b It's background psychology. The slightest things, done at the correct time in the correct manner, can change how we feel about certain things, often time doing so without us even knowing. People make money off of learning how to decipher or implant ideas into someone's head. The most successful casinos have low ceilings because with a lower ceiling we feel subconsciously safer and more at ease (and more willing to spend), the studying of these ideas goes very deep.
@trident3b the touching is called an anchor in NLP . think if you can a nice girl talking to you ,smiling and touching you on the shoulder ,that would change you pereception of her. even if it was not positive at the outstart..

He used some inside people (Most likely Simon's wife) and some misdirection to pull it off. The only people he hypnotized are the people who watched this and believed the bullshit this "Reveal" or what he said on the show. That stuff in the background was not to hypnotize Simon, it was used to hypnotize the gullible viewer.

Derren Brown is not using NLP. He even says so in his own book. What he does is called mentalism, meaning that he's basically an illusionist. NLP is pseudoscience (aka bullshit).
NLP is more scientiffically proven then freudism or Montesorri'ism. It is also based on Ericksonian hypnosis which is accept "Science" and published in a peer review scientific journal moren than 100 x. "Science" however is very limited and can NEVER say what is true or false, it can only say that a specific variable has a plausiblility (usually 95%) that a specific variable has an effect, then stupid people accept the whole theories that the scientist has made upon that small PLAUSIBLE variable

i spotted one myself...check out how he says, "want a BM or an X-box", he's really saying BMX really fast and touching his arm at the right points too

2:32 using the positivity anchor he also touches the man and instead of saying "BY" he actually says "BIKE" (sounds like By for a moment but listen) its brilliant, i studied how he stole a wallet from someone once not knowing exactly what this stuff was called and ive used alot of those tecniques at my job!.... yes i work in sales lol
You missed the most important technique, but not bad otherwise.
At 2:07 there is a handshake interrupt. Watch closely, because it is an incredibly powerful technique. Once Derren does the handshake interrupt, Simon's pupils dilate and he is in a deep trance.
At 2:37 he says "pumped up" (like a tire) while touching his arm. At 2:57 he focuses his attention by pointing his finger and saying "this is important." 3:01 he anchors an "'X'-treme" feeling. At 3:06, again with "I want 'X'". At 3:09 he touches his arm again and says, "Like a BM or an 'X'-box" suggesting a BM'X' bike.
No it isn't, it's quit useful probably more so than with social people because the concept of closeness would seem so out of place to begin with any odd gestures or actions wouldn't be suspected, only the general act of beign social. I've tried it, it's quite amazing.

i could be wrong but this video seems to miss out 2 of derren's key techniques:
he shakes his hand and then halfway through the handshake he grabs simon's hand with his left, breaking the handshake. he does this in the "russian scam", too, to take the man's belongings and you';ll notice after that simon seems to be mesmorised
he also touched him, said "BM..." let go, touched him again "X-box" so that he touched his arms while saying "BMX", like he did in the supermarket stunt with the vinegar

Great video. Few comment though:
- he uses mimics as well in order to amplify the feeling of desire (his hand are forming a ball)
- stretching his right hand for a handshake and then grabbing Simon's hand with his left hand, breaks the unconscious state.
To all of you that are too stupid to realize what's happening and posting bullshit, why don't you try to do the same thing only by using Darren's explanation (which is completely correct, apart from not telling how to induce a state of trance)?

STOP FALLING FOR THIS DAMN GUY. Derren Brown is a an illusionist. NOTHING MORE NOTHING LESS. He didn't use Hypnosis or anything that effects the sub-conscious. He used some inside people (Most likely Simon's wife) and some misdirection to pull it off. The only people he hypnotized are the people who watched this and believed the bullshit this "Reveal" or what he said on the show. That stuff in the background was not to hypnotize Simon, it was used to hypnotize the gullible viewer.

If this is NLP than I eat my hat. It is suggested that NLP is at play but there's something else going on. A man Theo Annemann done this in the 1930s when NLP did not exist except he claimed to be paranormal and people believed his paranormal claims.

Do you really think he would pick a leather jacket, when he has no need for it? Derren couldn't have changed this man's childhood memories (where he wanted a BMX bike) too.
All he did was replace the note. Not too hard, and much more likley to work than actual hypnosis. And the NLP throws you off.

I agree that this is easy to do, and I would add that the issue is not how good I am at NLP it is through what method this was made easy.
If doing this through the NLP method was simple, the original video wouldn't have 1Mil views. Derren Brown is a brilliant mentalist and he found the easier way to do it.

Derren Brown is not using NLP. He even says so in his own book. What he does is called mentalism, meaning that he's basically an illusionist. NLP is pseudoscience (aka bullshit).

NLP is more scientiffically proven then freudism or Montesorri'ism. It is also based on Ericksonian hypnosis which is accept "Science" and published in a peer review scientific journal moren than 100 x. "Science" however is very limited and can NEVER say what is true or false, it can only say that a specific variable has a plausiblility (usually 95%) that a specific variable has an effect, then stupid people accept the whole theories that the scientist has made upon that small PLAUSIBLE variable

NLP isn't pseudoscience, it's a scientific consequence of the way our brain/nervous system complex interacts with our environment. Every idea in our heads is a linguistic one (humans think using linguistic logic) and our nervous systems are the dynamic 'hardware' by which these ideas manifest & are conditioned/imprinted. NLP is a general term for acculturalization & only the temp practical utilization of it's subliminal principles is the form that is popular amongst the D.B. master culture.

You missed the most important technique, but not bad otherwise.
At 2:07 there is a handshake interrupt. Watch closely, because it is an incredibly powerful technique. Once Derren does the handshake interrupt, Simon's pupils dilate and he is in a deep trance.

At 2:37 he says "pumped up" (like a tire) while touching his arm. At 2:57 he focuses his attention by pointing his finger and saying "this is important." 3:01 he anchors an "'X'-treme" feeling. i could be wrong but this video seems to miss out 2 of derren's key techniques:
he shakes his hand and then halfway through the handshake he grabs simon's hand with his left, breaking the handshake. he does this in the "russian scam", too, to take the man's belongings and you';ll notice after that simon seems to be mesmorised
he also touched him, said "BM..." let go, touched him again "X-box" so that he touched his arms while saying "BMX", like he did in the supermarket stunt with the vinegar
