I personally really liked this film. The acting was great, the camerawork was great, the editing was good, the script was good. It was a pretty good movie and I liked it alot.
yeah this isnt a feel good so i see why folks dont dig this one. the bit about the brother did contribute to the plot ie the necklace krugs son leaves out with the mug. The weed aspect and the sexual assualt was apart of the orginal so its no surprise to me it appeared in the remake. as for krugs brother getting stabbed in the chest its a movie, fiction, we dont watch movies for reality. also having family that work hospitals you'd be surprised at some of the crazy things people survive through
ill do some where i verbally distroy a movie. i try not to spend what money i have on movie that look like shit. we know we have lots of positive reviews
To me it lost the whole point of what made the original. The brutality and the uncomfortable feeling during the rape scene. It would be like remaking Cannibal Holocaust and taking out the violence, it loses it's punch. The remake was very watered down as with most recently Craven films, he's just milking his name for money and doesn't care about the fans.
No. They are watered down, Hollywood horror. Modern Last House On The Left films wouldn't be in theaters, they would be straight to DVD releases like Eden Lake, August Underground and others.
No. Rob Zombie can barley make a damn film. He just caters to the modern horror/goth kid type of fans. I wasn't impressed with House Of 1000 Corpses, Devil's Rejects was better, Halloween was meh, and Halloween 2 was the worst film i've seen in a theater. Rob Zombie, like so many "smart" horror fans, needs to remember, just because you know who Argento is and have seen Cannibal Holocaust doesn't mean you know what you're talking about.
But do you think the torture porn horror movies are better then those pathetic WB horror flicks inspired by Scream? Rob Zombie himself hated that period of horror and thought those were the low points of horror and he brought back the raw kind of horror as the Scream teen craze died in 2002.
What about films like Cabin Fever, Wrong Turn, Saw, Hostel, Final Destination , Inside, Martyrs, High Tension, Ichi The Killer etc.? these films weren't tounge-in-cheek but raw and went for the jugular.
Again...I still think they are watered down. Comparing a film like Entrails Of A Virign or Men Behind The Sun to Wrong Turn or Saw is laughable. Esspecially the fact, Cabid Feer, Hostel, Final Destination, High Tension all sucked ass as films.
Hell if you want real torture porn watch August Underground or Forced Entry.
this will ruin the movie for you, well in a sense it will.
once the movie seems like its going to break into the credits it cuts to the father in a garage i think with the main bad guy on a table with his head in a microwave. the father turns it on and walks away the main guys head explodes
WoW destructive! i never knew that could happen. i was just like thinking if they were going to shut his head in their but they left it open. ok it all makes sense thx!
i agree with you. i think this remake was really good. it was very effective! i almost didn't want to watch the rape scene but it made the revenge better!! i was a little disappointed with the revenge scenes because i thought they would be a little more explicit(whatever the right word is) but all in all, i thought it was a great movie
i found the revenge just explict enough, i liked it that they didnt just go for "shock" kills with blood everywhere and horrible torture devices. but i really liked it, and its a "good" remake, something that's abit rare these days. thanks for watching
yeah i see what your saying, i guess it depends on each person. the movie does ask that very good question if you had the cance to get revenge would you and how? I like movies that present questions of that nature.
Great review. I thought this remake would suck but was surprised to actually like it. I grade it a B. I have to disagree with your assertion that the Dawn of the Dead remake sucked. It didn't have the social commentary of the original but it was a solid action/horror film, in my opinion.
dawn of the dead i like alot actually, but as far as "remakes" go i thought they lost alot of the brains of the original and replaced them with slo-mo gory death scenes, which i also like. but in terms of remakeing the mood of the original dawn of the dead i feel fails. i haent rewatched my review but if i used the words dawn of the dead sucked it was cause i am so excited last house on the left worked and worked well. dawn of the dead is without a doubt one of my top best remakes of all time
david hess is my friend on myspace and i mesaged him just after the trailer came out i asked him if he was going to see the remake he didnt wasnt interested i think he was pissed off i had messaged him about it
no you best not leave any spoilers on here or you might piss off some people. Im like you i love the orignal film and was worried that they might screw it up but from your review it seems that they havent . they should have had david hess do the score for the remake
i was actually wondering weither or not they'd have some muic from the original in their but no dice. Although the music is really good in the remake as well nothing beats David Hess. This is really one of the best remakes and i'm glad they had wes craven involved and i think that helped
well i dont want to leave spoilers in the comments section but she is just krugs girlfriend in the movie. out of the group of criminals she has the least amount of characterization but she gets a decent enough send off. maybe it was the actress who played her but she was just a boring characer in this movie and didnt really do much. the imfamous stabbing sene from the original is done a little differently in the remake but sadie isnt apart of the killing so much.
actually she isnt and its a bit disappointing with that character, she doesnt really do much in the movie and she is just their to serve one purpose, which if you see the movie you'll see what I'm talking about. god movie but the sadie character is lacking unlike in the original.
i found it to be a big anti-drug movie at the same time. the whole movie wouldnt have happened if the girls weren't looking for weed. but houseware I now avoid, except the microwave cause I need some place to make hotpockets.
if the movie is as good as you're saying it is than i'm stocked they finally made a good remake to a classic horror flick. well the dawn of the dead remake was good.
I wouldnt call it the best remake but its most cetainly on the good side of horror remakes. It's not fun and entertaining like dawn of the Dead but by the end of the movie everyone walked out of the theater with smiles on their faces
I found it bloodier then the original, but its not gore for the sake of gore. It's bloody and twisted, and it's got its own extreme scenes of revenge and doesnt just take it directly from the original
That's awesome you were able to get into an early screening. I'm glad you touched on the cops in the original, which, in my opinion, came close to ruining the movie with their jarringly out of place comedic sequences.
yeah those two cops just running sround was really distracting and it kinda threw the mood of the original off. Their are like only two cops in the remake and their not around for tooo long. Their is humor in the movie but it comes from the dialog mostly and doesnt stick out or mess up the feel of the movie
I personally really liked this film. The acting was great, the camerawork was great, the editing was good, the script was good. It was a pretty good movie and I liked it alot.

ok, but the original is by far superior
jimmyp73 1 year ago
my personal opinion:
there are many things that don't contribute to the movie (like knowing thay the girl's brother died a year earlier)
The guys going for pot (I mean, all of the newer horror movies have pot...I think it doesn't contribute to the movie)
raping...(every horror movie now-a-days has sexual scenes...and this one lasted for almost 7 minutes...WTF?)
it was kinda boring...Emma knifed Krug's brother in his heart and he didn't die...
so I give it 4/10...it sucked...

Craven said the reason why he remade LHOTL was to appologize to the people who the original offended. That should tell you which version is better.
TheForgottenFlesh 2 years ago
i really found the original effective and unique, but it isnt perfect.
I really love the remake, one of the best in my opinion. i believe its just as good if not better then the original, leaning more towards better

What about The Devil's Rejects? do think it's the REAL modern "Last House on The Left"? Rob Zombie is a huge fan of the original Last House.

No. Rob Zombie can barley make a damn film. He just caters to the modern horror/goth kid type of fans. @TheForgottenFlesh
So Devil's Rejects is his best movie eh? i mean it had a great sense of exploitation to it. What about Inside, Martyrs and Ichi The Killer?
Johnlindsey289 2 years ago
It was his best movie but deffinatly not a best example of an exploitation film.
Martyrs was fantastic, Ichi The Killer was alright. I haven't seen Inside all the way though yet.

What do you think of Torture Porn? do you think it's a radical response to the teen slasher flicks from the 90's?
Johnlindsey289 2 years ago
Personally it's just a rip off of the Catagory Three films from Japan in the early 90s like Guinea Pig series and others.
TheForgottenFlesh 2 years ago
