I test drove an M6 convertible as a replacement for my E55. for such a heavy car it felt agile and light on its feet. Build quality was excellent...and of course sat 4 and had the top come down. That looks waaay more than 100hp difference, maybe m3 is overrated hp or the m6 makes more than 507, or the m3 driver beats his car and hes lost some hp :p

Torque is merely driving force, it doesn't mean the car's faster. Horsepower and weight is a bigger factor. The M3 is lighter, however, it's going against a 500 HP V10 S85 Beast. 420 vs 500 HP. It's not THAT much lighter. Stop your whining, bmw wouldn't design the M3 to be faster than the M6; that wouldn't make any sense to make the smaller cheaper coupe faster than the 105k base M6. Enough said retards.

Horsepower (rpm) allows the engine to increase the torque curve over a longer period of time (more work is being done, aka car is faster). Automotive manufacturers started to advertise horsepower figures because it's usually the higher number vs. torque. It's a marketing strategy from the good old days.
the driver in the m3 don't know how to drive.. he started in a lower gear when he punched it, it is in the redline already thats why he lose a lot of time. he should have shifted it before he punched it. if it had a good driver, the results will be closer.

Obviously in this circumstance the weight will not be a determining factor as were not comparing a bus to a 4-door; but in essence the weight is what that power must push and it appears the faster car has a better power/weight ratio.
This is incredibly dumbed down as it discounts wind resistance.

I own an M3 6MT and I can tell you from experience he would have done better if he started in 2nd .. He used 1st for 1/10 of a second then shifted burned out and then finally got into it.
A few things...the M6 has a V10 and can be unrestricted to something like 500hp, whereas the M3 doesn't have nearly that much power with a V8. So in a straight line the M6 definitely going to win...however, with the M3 being half the price of the M6, its a hard choice to make between the two.
This guy is changing gear at about 5,000 revs & either missed gear or changed way early right at the start,.....grow some balls & use the car properly you german retard.
even though the m6 has a v10, that v10 isn't really big enough
when put up against cars in its class, the weight of the car proves that the m6 really does need some remodeling
yes, 507hp is a good number, but the m6 weighs so much. if bmw wanted their m division to become more of a supercar division, they'd drop the v10 into the m3 and drop a v12 into the m5 and m6 instead of their up coming downgrade of the m3 to a turbo inline 6 and the m5 and m6 down to a turbo v8
M5 board. How come you guys start so high in the rev range. I know the outcome wouldnt be much different and the M cars are made to be in the range but with the M6 vs F430 and then this race it seems a higher gear could be better used on the jump. You guys have like half a second blip then lose time on gear change here on the M3. Could've been closer I think.
considering the technology of V8 and V10 there should not be that much big difference.the M6 is fast but not that much fast over just 80hp less m3.M6 is good but nowhere near MB AMG cars.
@slobhinav they are german but not good, i work on bimmers and these cars are freaking nightmares to customers. look at the reliability not the name. the best bimmer IMO is the E39 cars, 530, 528, and especially the the 540 6spd,, the E60 is nothing but junk

Bmw yeah they are very confuseing at times, some of their new designs are not looking good though like the new 3series or 5series ugly as hell. I am not a bmw person to be honest, if i was to have a bmw it would be a 1 series or an X5, my m3 would be my aston martin v8 vantage and a saloon the mercedes C class i found bmw's a very hard ride.
It is really a matter of taste, just like with iPhone vs. HTC, Mac vs. PC, tomatoes vs. carrots - lol.
I'm definately not a BMW person either, I don't find their M5 appealing at all really. In general I like Mercedes a lot better. But the M6 I really like, both the design and the idea/concept of that car. If it werent for the need of 4 seats I would want an SL65 instead.
I do like to 'feel the road' when I drive, so I guess an M6 would suit me. While a MB would be better for you :)

M5/M6 are NOT F1 engines. They are inspired by the design of F1 engines.
And the M3 is BMW's top racing car. It is one of the most winning-est cars in race history. Just because it has a weaker engine than the M5 and M6 doesn't mean it's automatically a worse track car. The M3 is superior around a track because of it's better handling. Racing in a straight line is a merely a horsepower show.

@kickyadick that is true that torque (horsepower being a derivative of torque) does play a huge role however the weight that the work must push is the other side of the equation,
Obviously in this circumstance the weight will not be a determining factor as were not comparing a bus to a 4-door; but in essence the weight is what that power must push and it appears the faster car has a better power/weight ratio.
This is incredibly dumbed down as it discounts wind resistance.

I own an M3 6MT and I can tell you from experience he would have done better if he started in 2nd .. He used 1st for 1/10 of a second then shifted burned out and then finally got into it.

A few things...the M6 has a V10 and can be unrestricted to something like 500hp, whereas the M3 doesn't have nearly that much power with a V8. So in a straight line the M6 definitely going to win...however, with the M3 being half the price of the M6, its a hard choice to make between the two.

even though the m6 has a v10, that v10 isn't really big enough
when put up against cars in its class, the weight of the car proves that the m6 really does need some remodeling
yes, 507hp is a good number, but the m6 weighs so much. if bmw wanted their m division to become more of a supercar division, they'd drop the v10 into the m3 and drop a v12 into the m5 and m6 instead of their up coming downgrade of the m3 to a turbo inline 6 and the m5 and m6 down to a turbo v8

M5 board. How come you guys start so high in the rev range. I know the outcome wouldnt be much different and the M cars are made to be in the range but with the M6 vs F430 and then this race it seems a higher gear could be better used on the jump. You guys have like half a second blip then lose time on gear change here on the M3. Could've been closer I think.

@slobhinav they are german but not good, i work on bimmers and these cars are freaking nightmares to customers. look at the reliability not the name. the best bimmer IMO is the E39 cars, 530, 528, and especially the the 540 6spd,, the E60 is nothing but junk

A friend just told me that the M6 is 5 liters, so I've looked it up and found that there is some confusion on that one - it depends on what country BMW site you're looking, lol... Get your facts right, BMW. At least they know how to make cars.
The M3 is indeed sexy in white. I badly want an M6 tho, but I will have to move to some other country as taxes on cars in Denmark are insane - 280k Euro - base price! o.O

Bmw yeah they are very confuseing at times, some of their new designs are not looking good though like the new 3series or 5series ugly as hell. I am not a bmw person to be honest, if i was to have a bmw it would be a 1 series or an X5, my m3 would be my aston martin v8 vantage and a saloon the mercedes C class i found bmw's a very hard ride.

I'm definately not a BMW person either, I don't find their M5 appealing at all really. In general I like Mercedes a lot better. But the M6 I really like, both the design and the idea/concept of that car. If it werent for the need of 4 seats I would want an SL65 instead.
I do like to 'feel the road' when I drive, so I guess an M6 would suit me. While a MB would be better for you :)

M5/M6 are NOT F1 engines. They are inspired by the design of F1 engines.
And the M3 is BMW's top racing car. It is one of the most winning-est cars in race history. Just because it has a weaker engine than the M5 and M6 doesn't mean it's automatically a worse track car. The M3 is superior around a track because of it's better handling. Racing in a straight line is a merely a horsepower show.
