Do not get complacent!! Keep the centerline of the runway, use full left aileron deflection at the start of the takeoff run and reduce it once you pick up speed. Remember , you fly the airplane, don't let her fly you
You can get them with Lycomings, and there's also a new brand of Diesel engines they're using that just got certified in Europe, which they expect to have in the US next year. They're more HP than the Thielerts but I don't know if they're counter-rotating or not.
Hey guys, thanks for the views and the comments. The da42 is very hard to hold on centerline. It is not counter rotating, and in my opinion after a few hundred hours in type, the rudder is too small.
The pilot taking off is making his second takeoff, and we were just having some fun. The DA42 is a really great airplane, but it needs counter rotating engines which simply wasn't possible at the time.
@ethanhach You are absolutely correct, all those people commenting that never flew a DA42 do not know how hard it is to hold the centerline even with full right rudder.
it always happens when a plane is new to you... first time i flew a Bonanza I practically dumped it off the runway because the 172 i was used to flying didnt have NEARLY as much P-Factor. But as pilots, you adjust quickly :-)
It is torque rather than p-factor that causes you to get off the centerline whilst the plane is still rolling. P-factor becomes a factor during low airspeed, high angle-of-attack situations.
Yup really bad take off, but great aircraft. what happened is the P factor + maybe some crosswind, but you can easily correct it. This would fail you even for a PPL.

Now that the Thielert engines are no longer put onto DA42's and they are using I think Lycoming engines is the Counter rotating prop available?

You drifted off to the left a lot!

CENTER LINE!!

Not so much a Diamond option as is a Thielert option. Strange enough to make a diesel for an aircraft. Would be cool though.

Why wouldn't Diamond give this plane counter-rotating props?

maybe to cut the maintenance cost down? - using similar props, and probably some engine components.

Hello. Really Good Video. Is The DA42 A Delicate Aircraft To Fly? Does It Handle Nicely Besides The Fact That Its Hard To Hold On Centerline?

how bout that centerline!! lol only raggin ya...shouldn't be too much P factor, it's counter-rotating props right?

Anyhow, love the plane

nice video, love the aircraft.
horrible takeoff though, that's a wide runway and you almost drifted off the left. Stay on center next time, use the rudder that's what it's for.

It could have been windy? i dunno but thats cool to ta/o from a intl airport! i liked the vid!
