  • Requested by a friend. Topic: Why did Edward said "It's a joke. It's all a joke. Mother forgive me"?

I always just interperted it as a comment on the irony in Veidt's plan. The fact that he is trying to save the world by destroying it and tricking humanity, the types of things he used to fight against.

  • Life sucks. No matter, how hard you try. In fact, the harder you try, the more it sucks. That is the joke.

  • Heard the song a few days back, took me a while to remember where i'd heard it from...

  • there's something about the comedian. He was called the comedian, but everything he said was too realistic... without a hint of comedy

  • robert downy jr :D

  • @rodjenel99 Er...that's not Robert Downey Jr.

  • @shojo95 i know lol..

  • This sucks.

  • Is it just me or is the sound off, great scene though

  • Throwing an opponent across the room is a waste of energy and gives the opponent time to recover and formulate a strategy.

  • @AcctNo4 not if he lands on a glass table.

  • I never understood why Ozmandias killed the Comedian and why the Comedian suddenly reached a breakdown

  • @DominionOfTheSword Comedian fiured out Ozymandias's plan to destroy millions of people and although he knew it would be terrible, be also understood that it was necessary, that without it the whole of the Earth would be doomed to nuclear war, killing everyone. Thats what made him so distraught, knowing that millions had to die(or at least would die). Ozy killed him because he had already tried to tell Moloch(but was so broken by then he didn't make sense)and was worried he would tell the others

  • @GothicPredalienWolf I interpreted it that the Comedian wasn't distraught because millions would die--but because the world was going to be saved from nuclear holocaust. The Comedian had used the world's impending doom as his whole philosophy, and his justification for how he lived, why he thought he could kill innocent people. But now that he knew the world WASN'T doomed, he was horrified--he wasn't justified at all, and it destroyed him. But I could be wrong, been two years since read it.

  • @Megaritz I can see where you're coming from, Comedian WAS a psycho after all. But I think that although he did kill however many people, innocent or not, he was doing it for America, and the fact that even though he fought for his country, it didn't affect the fact that they would all be exterminated, and that there was nothing he could do about it, all his fighting was for nothing.

  • @Megaritz But then again he might never of cared about an overall good, since he was crazy. I don't know, that's just my opinion. I guess you'll have to ask Alan Moore.

  • the actions sence in this movie is what made this movie a commandy wrether than a thoughtful stry.+ the story of the movie take sides with who is right or worng, but in the comic put out the window such things like good and evil

  • ozy fucked his as up.but to give him more credit he but up a better fight then nite owl ii and rorscach combind

  • *looks at the title*

    thanks for the spoiler,noob

  • The Comedian's name was meant as ironic because he was cynical, sociopathic, brutish, and just plain ruthless

so when he said its all a joke, he meant that everything is pretty fucked up, and everything he did was fucked up, even for his standards and he says mother help me because if you were a cynical government assassin whos been in war, im sure you would be an atheist to

but of course i could be wrong, this is just my personal analysis

  • This is a joke. This is all a joke.

  • Interestingly in the comic the fight is nothing like this intricate. Basically Ozymandias kicks in the door, gives the Comedian a pasting and chucks him out the window. He doesn't really fight back, and I think this is meant to be down to the fact that by this point in the story he's a broken man. He's learnt the extent of Ozymandias' scheme and is mentally and emotionally messed up. It's not just because he's older or out of shape that he loses; he's basically given up.

  • @vandimar77 yep...in the comic he is literally crying at Morloc's bedside...and Ozy's plan was much more sinister in the comic book. He was faking a interdimensional invasion. The Comedian found out about it on his way back from a mission when he discovered the island the researchers were at.

  • @vandimar77 He also probably knows that Adrian can kick the shit out of him easily, wether he fights back or not.

  • @ltsjack The only other time they fought Comedian floored him, so yeah

  • @illholdthemoff What? They never fought a time before this?

  • @ltsjack They did when both of them were younger. Comedian kicked Ozy's ass

  • What would be if Ozymandias would have the powers of Dr. Manhattan.

  • @WatchmenDrManhattan There wouldn't be a place called Earth

  • @SamuraiGhost63 veidt saved humanity....why would he destroy earth, you idiot??

  • @killa420herb How the hell should I know, he can go fuck Mars all I care I'm just commentin'

  • the comedia, kill kennedy, make Nixon stay in power, finish the war in vietnam, hes a hero... whos nws the world never change.. no matter what..

  • @andreycito07

    He's an anti-hero.

More like a bad guy who works for the good guys.

But still maintains a badass charisma :D

  • @MarxistHero ok.. ANTI-HERO..but i like is in hes 2 feet and se the all picture... the comedian dont want to Ftg Enmre...

  • the comedian is a parody of the life

  • Hu killed him?

  • @JosephtheJman ozymandias

  • @JosephtheJman Ozymandias

  • what?

  • @edithlegacy fuck masons..... this guy knew everymove cause he invented every move.... he probably wrote the 3rd degree himself.... masons think they know their history,,,,only the history that has been written for them to BELIEVE

  • I love how Ozzys' stance is solid throughout the fight.

  • How come the comedian was in the Minutemen/Watchmen group in the 1940's and then was a member of the current Watchmen like 10 years before this fight but got so old now? All the other heroes aged a little bit, they aged the Comedian too much for this fight but no enough before in my opinion. How old was The Comedian supposed to be anyways? How about Ozymandias age?

  • @Maloperverso

Minutemen was in the late 1930´s, Comedian being born in 1924 (GN age), the never formed Crimebusters was attempted in 1966 (the films Watchmen meeting), then they operated as non-named Watchmen from -66´to -77 when the Keene Act was put in order. The Watchmen is in the fall of -85. So Comedian was not that old in - 66 or -77. Ozymandias is born in 1939.

  • @Sarizman So the picture in the opening of the movie that said 1940 was not really 1940 then!? Otherwise the comedian would have been 16 even though he looked at least 30!!!

  • @Maloperverso

The movie did a change regarding Comedians age. In the comic book he was born in 1924 while in the movie he was born in 1918 IIRC. That was because they (the filmmakers) didn´t think that Jeffrey Dean Morgan could pose as a teenager in Sally´s flashback scene. The movies photoshot year, 1940, was still correct though.

  • @Sarizman Even if The Comedian was born in 1918 in the movie he still didn't look 22 in the 1940 picture, he looked in his early 30's easy. But it's a movie so what the hell, The Comedian Forever!

  • I didn't know that the Comedian taxed Ozymandias back in the day. Makes me want to read the novel now. Never was much into The Watch Men but the movie made me interested. I notice how when the Comedian is talking to Adrian, that Adrian didn't really look at the Comedian, like a sign of a lil pressure and resentment.

  • in the comic book the comedian first beat ozymandias

  • Im sure ozzy won cos he got some upgrades, having the speed to catch a bullet and all gave him a huge advantage over comedian.proly when veidt was younger he wasnt that fast and proly not so strong also.

  • Congratulations Veidt, you killed a man nearly twice your age who you could not beat in his prime, good job.

  • I still remember watching this movie with my friends. We were in the theatre, and when the smiley button fell, he went. "There goes the best damn Walmart Greeter ever."

  • i though only the blue fucker had powers, how come this guy is really strong and catches a bullet later?

  • @faceless58 Geometry

  • @faceless58 he's sort of a mind over matter kind of guy

  • Does anyone recognize the style of

martial arts he is using to pwn The Comedian?

  • @systemique Ozymandias style kungfu. :-)

  • @cguevara12 nice thanks do you recognise what style though.

  • @systemique It is where the guy fights and it is better than Comedian Style Boxing.

  • He was talking about the Watchmen/Minutemen, referring to what he had said earlier about the world coming to an end due to nuclear war, and how there was nothing they could do to stop it. He was basically repeating what he said in the "Smartest man on the cinder" speech.

  • chick norris could have only done that !!!

  • The reason the comedian lost, was because he didnt fight ozzy, the guy in black was none other than Solid Snake :P

  • "It's a joke. It's all a joke. Mother forgive me"

I'm going to tattoo that phrase

  • Jeffrey Dean Morgan should SO do the voice for The Thing.

  • he says it's all a joke because he knows that what adrian is planning, he also says mother forgive me because at this point in his life he relises all the horrible things he has done in his life, i.e killing kids in vietnam.

  • @SgtAndrewM

The whole movie's a joke because Rorschach put in his journal who was behind everything. The world won't rally against Manhatten, but against themselves again. That's the real joke.

  • @rockman002

Which is funny, since Adrian's the most extreme version of progressive there is.

  • Just use a fucking rocket launcher.....that might work!

  • A gay man beating the holy hell out of an old school misogynist....Hell ya!!

  • Thats how I beat the shit out of anybody who was dumb enough to vote for that idiot obama. Pretty much deserved.

  • It was Ozymandias? Please explain when they told us it was him

  • @comedyman55 at the end of the movie when Ozymandias was explaining himself to Night Owl and Rorschach.

  • is it me or is the sound off key to the video? if you dont know what i mean look when he says "its a joke its all a joke" or the noise pops up before he kicks door then the door bursts open

  • @endingwithz the entire video is out-of-sync.

  • lol how the fuck does he smash the wall off with his fist without breaking it

  • @kanegrimes years of practice

  • SLOOOW-MMOOTIOON!!

  • Funny. They keep claiming that Dr. Manhatten only has super powers, yet all the other heroes have superhuman strength for some reason. I mean how the hell can Viedt do all that combat shit? Hell, how is Viedt even the strongest in the first place? They never explained that.

  • I love this scene ;-) nice upload,

  • the comedian was the greatest hand to hand fighter in the watchmen universe, the only reason he lost this one was because of his older age. He wouldve owned poor old Ozy if he was in his prime.

Btw I love the line he uses to own Ozy later in the book. "Yeah but it takes a room full of morons to think youre big enough to handle them" BEST LINE IN THE BOOK! HAHA

  • @macree01 I'm not so sure I agree. I've also read the book. (glorious). But, it seems as though throughout most of the story ozymandias is given that title (best figher), aside from Jon of course. "Used to joke he could catch a bullet" etc. I think even in the comedian's prime (bare in mind the comedian is easily my favourite character), I think Ozy may still have had the upper hand. Anyway, there's my opinion.

    it's a joke...it's all a joke. mother, forgive me..."

  • appareanlty being the worlds smartest man, also makes him the worlds strongest and best fighting man.

Nite owl punished Ozys face after Dr M killed Rorsch didnt phase him at all

he crusehd Nite and Rorshach like they were nothing, and we all seen wat Rorshach was capable of doing in Prison.

Ozy is a very good example of y u dont have to be smart and weak, or strong and stupid

y dont to many ppl pay attention to such things?

  • It's "Why did Edward say" NOT "Why did Edward said"! If your going to post a video, I would think that you'd check the spelling and grammar! I have OCD and stuff like that really gets on my tits!! Nice video by the way.

  • @mchamo12 *you're*

  • wow they did such a good job making a non-corny adult superhero action movie...It is a work of artm i hate when people say "oh that movie was alright"...no..it was amazing

  • Ozymandias did the right thing

  • Zach Snyder is my kind of film maker. Seems like all his movies are right up my alley.

  • 2:18

  • Chuck Norriss taught Ozzymandias his moves?

  • I think it's a metaphor for the new world getting rid or the old

  • The sound was a little off in parts, but its good

  • So Ozzy DID killed him?? When I first saw this I thought the same, but later I thought I heard somewhere in the film that it was Moloch who killed the Comedian after Ozzy hired him. In the scene you can see his face a bit too, right? Anyway, this is what I thought...

  • and to add, he was 67 at the time..

  • @IRESSIVOR. Veidt enhanced himself, which explains why he was the flawless victo in the fight. But I must say...HE BEAT THE COMEDIAN'S ASS! I've seen my fair share of ass whoopings but that shit was B to the R to the UTAL!

  • Ok, does ANYONE else notice the huge penis sculpture to the left side of Blake's television?? Hard to see on this vid, but if you have the DVD, or better yet, Blu-ray, that's definitely what it is.

  • that was for the map motherfucker. lol

  • trust me not ozy (snake will not have a chance) ..comedian beat him once and never again but not this time.

  • Why his mother? Cause God sure as hell wasn't going to

  • @OverHedge99 Yeah, how can something that doesnt exist forgive anybody?

  • the song in the background was all from a commercial playing on his tv? he shot the tv? and even if the sound was still working on his tv somehow that's one long commercial?

  • I don't think it's a commercial, I think it was part of a movie or something.

  • @roymaster45

Yes, the commercial was filmed exclusively for the movie as it appears on TV in the graphic novel; additionally, the MTV commercial was included in the movie but is not in the original graphic novel - it's simply a reference to the times as MTV was relatively new and upcoming at the time the graphic novel is set. The movie did remain remarkably tight to the original novel, apart from a few parts missed out due to time constraints and the ending of the movie too.

  • I love this scene.

    ^-^

    Muwahaha Never burn Veidt's map!

  • @StrawberrySheffields It was Captain Metropolis's chart in the book. I kinda miss how genuinely upset Metropolis was in the book ("My chart! D:") Blake still chewed Adrian out pretty good, both book and movie during that scene, 'smartest man on the cinder' and such. Plus in the book it mentions Blake beat up Adrian when both were younger after mistaking him for a supercriminal, and Veidt never let that down.

  • i think that solid snake could have beated ozymandias in a fight

  • I believe it's mentioned in the graphic novel that Ozymandias actually lost his first fight with the Comedian back in their crime-busting days. By this time, of course, Veidt has trained himself to such a level of perfection that no one can even touch him. Excluding Dr. Manhattan, he's as strong as any three of the Watchmen combined.

  • @iressivor

In the novel it was stated in his prime no one could take a clean punch from Comedian and not be seeing stars. In their first fight Ozy was winning, but Comedian decked his ass, and put him to sleep.

Even at 67 you see that his power punches crush concrete, I believe if either landed they would've knocked Ozy out. Everyone was scared of fighting Eddy which was why he got away with being a dick for so long.

Ozy studied him, and was in better shape in this fight.

  • @Toony678 the comedian gave up. "..it's all a joke.."

  • He only beat him cuz hes old i mean He IS the father of SilkSpectre

  • Also, The jokes his life.

  • Comedian actually did better than Nite Owl and Rorschach.

  • @mailedbypostman

They said the Comedian was the best hand to hand fighter of all time. In his youth he actually defeated a young Veidt and he always had a secret resentment for The Comedian because of it though he deeply respected him. Of course, that was in The Comedians prime, now Veidt's in his. That's one of the reasons Veidt had to assassinate him - he was the only uncontrollable variable.

Well, that and because he found out the plan in the novel.

  • @BigMac8000

    Veidt originally told the Comedian.

    The Comedian had a break-down.

  • @MarxistHero

Did Veidt actually tell him? I thought the Comedian just found out.

  • @BigMac8000 According to the book, Veidt did tell him. And even in the movie, Veidt said, "Who would've thought he [Blake] would have a change of heart?"

  • @mailedbypostman

True, though even then, if this scene isn't the definition of curbstomp battle, I don't know what is. The backround music just seems to make the beatdown even worse, too.

  • @mailedbypostman didnt you say that on another video

  • @mailedbypostman I believe in the novel it was hinted that the Comedian beat Ozymandias in a previous exchange. I can't remember - it's been a while, but yeah. Comedian got old, and so he lost this time.

  • @mailedbypostman and that is kindda sad

  • @mailedbypostman old dog man

  • @mailedbypostman as a matter of fact.....yeah

  • @mailedbypostman Don't forget he's almost as old as Hollis

  • This was such an epic scene xD

  • How did he become that good at fighting? Is he wearing a cybernetic suit or something?

  • @THEVIDEOARBITRATOR

isn't it just because he is ridiculously fast? just move for move gets there before the comedian.

  • That's the problem, he is too fast. In the last fight he took two great fighters at one time and when the Nite Owl punched him he wasn't hurt.

His pain tolerance and invulnerability is not human.

  • @THEVIDEOARBITRATOR Neither is his intellect which is his brain power, which he uses as his power, he see's what they'll do just through muscle movements, his speeds due to his body control, his power, body control.

  • The problem with that notion is that intellect is different from perception through the eyes. His eyes ware not controlled through his intellect. He would need super-sight in order to see their muscle movements and predict where they are going to go.

His body control and his speed is attributable to the nervous system and the muscular system, these two body systems have to be meta-human, Batman level if he can compete with two great fighters at once.

  • he says mother forgive me because of his past u gotta read the graphic novel

  • 1:40

    lol, Is that even possible?

Veidt sure mopped up Blake pretty good.

  • Lol if comedian hit him at 1:30, Ozymandias would've got wrecked. He had that whole "Oblivion" charge attack grunt too lol.

  • There are two bad things wrong with this film the fight action and the bad ending.

Thats my opinion but don't tell the fanboys they dont believe in free speech.

    Life imitating art I suppose.

Apart from that it's the most visually stunning film i have scene since kubrick.

  • Whats bad about the ending, its better than the comic.

  • is Ozymandias good or bad?

  • He is human being ;-) Good/bad applies to things, not people.

  • @OkurkaBinLadin Smart ass..but i like your answer ;-)

  • this fight reminds me of bioshock! guess its the scenery and the music

  • for real.

  • bad ass beat down. also, maybe someone already pointed this out but at the start of the fight, when comedian throws his mug and misses, it hits his door number and knocked off the 1. making it room 300.

    slick.

  • Although Ozzy messes up Comedian something awful in this scene it's told in the GN how his single defeat is at the hands of eddie years earlier. This was something Ozzy never got over. he's a senior citizen at this point. Give the comedian a break here kids!

  • amazing fighting seen.. has meanin behind it

  • what meaning?

  • ozmandias wins dickality

  • I think he realized that Ozymandias was going to kill him, Comedian liked fighting, and i guess he decided that he didn't want to go out without a fight, but knew he would go out, so it was kind of like having his one last great fight before the end, he was kind of enjoying it

  • I like how by the time Blake's got his gun out, Ozy's already across the room to turn the barrel aside.

  • When I saw a poster advertising Watchmen (Showing Comedian falling out the window) I thought it was an Old Lady LOL

  • 'Mother forgive me' was in another scene in the GN, when he goes to see Moloch. He's basically having a breakdown about Adrian's plot; he thought he knew how savage humans are, but he never imagined it could be that bad. The joke doesnt seem so funny anymore :(

  • It wasn't the brutality of Adrian's plot that broke him, it was the *optimism* of it. What comedian survives the death of cynicism?

No room for Blake in Ozy's Church of Lateral Day Saints.

  • Excellent viewpoint.

  • Thank you,

  • why Ozymandias killing the comedian?

  • because eddie was going to tell everyone drian's plan.

  • Should have held the knife with the blade pointing downwards,it's harder to block.

So remember that folks the next time a vengeful superhero breaks into your house. ; )

  • Unlez it's Ozymandias.

  • @Yehbytheway Yeah, but with a blade pointing upwards, you have more options to attack with.

It depends on what you want to do, attack, or defend.

Real knife fighting, though, is based around the knife pointing downwards, not because its easier to block, but because it puts a barrier, your arms, in the way of your chest and throat.

  • @Yehbytheway but less efeective

  • Probably one of the best opening for a movie I've seen.

  • thank you for posting this!!!!!!!!!

  • this is my fav part of the movie

  • btw 2:04 Didn't that sound like Mario 64 for second? when he does the first jump?

  • haha yeah

  • YAH WAH YAHOOO!!!

  • Anyone know the name of the song playing n the background?

  • "Unforgettable" by Nat King Cole

  • Thank you!

  • After finding out who killed him, its easy to see whhy he got his ass kicked.

  • damn poor bastard, didnt land a single punch. anyone know what kind of martial art this is?

looks like bourne identity or wing chun dummy mastery.

  • maybe american kenpo?

  • lol.

  • This a very amazing scene. The combat is well choreographed and it makes for a great opening scene.

  • Comment removed

  • I love who well done the choreography for this fight scene is

  • I think he says the line because it's something he says later on the novel (when he's talking to the former Moloch about Ozzy's grand scheme) and they decided to introduce it earlier.

  • 3:18 - Is this bean juice?

  • Human bean juice
